Valerie POV.

Still texting to make sense of all I have heard. The ground beneath my feet was shaken like a leaf. Despite the impossibility of my predicament, there was a bigger fear and that’s…disobeying the alpha. No one disobeys the alpha and lives to tell the tale. My head is still very important to me and I don’t plan on losing it anytime soon. Wiping the treats streaming down, I braced up. Swallowing hard, “yes, my lord.” Bowing down lightly.

They stared at me like I had just narrowly escaped something they had in mind.

“Good, girl.” The Luna mouthed. “Now, we can move on to the next.” Her shoulders flaring on the seat. “You know you can’t just be in the pack without giving back, right?” Furrowing her brows at me.

Puzzlement took over my members, “yeah…I don’t mind continuing with my parent’s position.”

Like a punctured dam the alpha and luna broke out in a thunderous laughter. One that left me marveled. Looking around myself, “is something wrong with what I’m wearing or what I said?”

The alpha’s smile immediately weaned, his eyes burning like I said the abominable.

“You must be sick in the head!” His voice echoed in the chamber forcing fear to creep up my spine. “Are you trying to make a mockery of me?!”

I immediately fell to my knees especially seeing the rage on his face. “I’m sorry, my lord.” With quivering lips.

“Sorry for your betraying and traitor self!”stamping his feet against the ground. “First, we show you mercy because of Xandia’s sake, you think we will be foolish enough to let you continues with your parents and complete their failed mission?!”

His cold words pierced like spikes to my heart. Not knowing the perfect words to say that wouldn’t land me in more trouble. What exactly do they want from me?

“If you had let me finish speaking maybe you would have known what I mean.” The Luna chirped in, “you would be joining the pack house omegas.”

My ears tingled with shock and tangible fright. Fingers jittery, even my mind fighting to put the pieces together. “But…but…I’m not…an omega?”

“That’s not a problem.” She scorned at me, “from today hence, you are now a pack house omegas. So you must join them in doing the necessary chores for the pack house.”

Hot tears welled up in my eyes, fist and teeth clenched as I forced the most difficult responses of my life. “Yeeees, my lady.”

Rising to my feet like a defeated warrior. Admitting in my heart that I just made the mistake of my life. Being degraded to a mere omega. May parents will probably weeping in their graves at the moment. I’m defeated and now is the time to accept that fact.

“Thank you for your mercy.” Dragging myself out of the chamber. My fingers nibbled the door knob about to pull myself out of this hell of an experience when a brash force hit me. Almost losing my balance but held myself. Lifting my head, lol and behold, Xandia. I thought they sent her to her chamber.

She barged back into the chamber forcing me to halt my exit plan. Curiosity getting the best of me. Has she been standing here all along? If she has, then this means more trouble.

“Xandia, I thought I ordered you to be confined in your chamber?!” The alpha’s voice caused the ground to quake.

Xandia didn’t seem moved, “dad, why are you both doing this?! This is so unfair and wicked!”

“Xandia!” The Luna shunned almost immediately. Rising to her feet, “my lord, please don’t consider her actions. She is but a child.”

“I’m not a child, mum!” Her high pitched voice pierced into the atmosphere, “I’m an adult! One old enough to know what injustice looks like!”

“Really?” The alpha asked inquisitively although his anger was palpable. “Tell me, what is Justice?”

“Justice is doing the right thing. Not being unjust to a loyal person! How can Valerie’s parents serve so diligently even to the point of losing their lives yet….” Breaking down shortly in tears. “Yet, you want to demote her to being a mere omega. That’s unfair!”

“So you were eavesdropping on my conversation?”

“Dad, that’s not the point.”

“You also defied my orders by coming back after o sent you to your room.” Like a swell rising on his tone, “guards!”

The door behind me pushed opened with the guards bursting in. “My lord.”

His breath rough, “are you trying to tell me that all of you are so impotent to not carry out a simple order?!”

Their leader stepped out, “sorry, my lord. We were insistent but we couldn’t force the princess.” Shrugging, “we can’t dare forceful hands on your family!”

“Now,” the alpha up on his feet, eyes darted in her direction. “You ya e my permission. Bundle her up!”

“Sir?”

“Dad?!” Xandia yelled, “why would you do that to me? Because I’m saying the truth?” Facing her mother, “talk to dad, he can’t do that to me.”

“Watch me!” Facing the guards, “bundle her from my presence into her chamber and ensure to lock her up. Under no circumstance should she be allowed to step out.” Breathing down, “heavily guard get chamber like you would a dangerous criminal.”

“Yes, my lord.” Their leader immediately signaling the guards to get to work despite their initial hesitation. My heart now thumping unhealthily, Xandia is being disrespectful because she’s trying to protect me. Making things words for me, if she is locked up, what will be my fate?

“My lord,” the luna intercepted with her hands raised. The guards halted in their steps. “Isn’t that punishment too much?” Her arm spreading over her husband’s.

“Didn’t you see and hear your daughter spewing gibberish! Half of which is able to have the head of any guard on a platter.”

She pouted, “Xandia is just being a child. Please don’t take her words too serious. If you lock up the heir like a mere prisoner, what will our opposition say?”

“Anything they like but I won’t have a rebellious child.” He inhaled sharply before stretching it t his right hand, “take her away from here, now!”

Xandia seeing the seriousness of the moment began pulling back. Pulling back but their hands got to her first, firm hands pulling her away despite her fighting back. It had little or no effect as they pressed against her.

“Let me go!!! Dad!” Fighting as they pulled her away.

My legs began trembling as she was being dragged out towards where I stood beside the door. Seeing the clear fright on her eyes doubled my worry for her. She’s not one to be scared but in this state, it really got to her. What if the alpha keeps her in solitary confinement forever? Will I ever be able to forgive myself?

Just when my works was shattering in my very face, a familiar figure advanced towards the chamber. His presence stopped the guards in their steps as they bowed slightly. His name escaped my lips like a silent prayer. “Cloven?”

He shit me a smirk that said it all. Not mockery but a subtle watt of saying, “I told you so.” His usual aura filled the atmosphere causing everyone to be glued to him. He’s one of the lucky people that the alpha trusts and respects. For his strength and unmatched skill.

“Isn’t this just a shameful sight?” His eyes condescendingly staring at Xandia in the firm grip of the guards. The alpha didn’t seem to mind that Claven didn’t bow in reverence.

“Sorry, you had to come at such a time.”

Claven giggled in a sinister manner, “greetings, my lord.” Bowing slightly become lifting his head again to stare at Xandia held firmly by the guards. “And this is meant to be the slayer and protector of this pack? She looks rather helpless to me.”

“Actually,” the Luna continued, “the alpha just ordered that she should be taken away forcefully. Sorry you had to see this.”

Wagging his head, “you are getting the wrong point.”

The alpha seemed to get the message. His once angry became gloomy almost immediately. “That’s why I invited you. All she has is a smart mouth forgetting the purpose for which she is here.”

“I’m sorry, my lord. But this a very important issues especially seeing that she is the future alpha.” His eyes scanning the guards again, “these are hardly trained warriors, see how they are holding her up violently.”

The guards carefully let her go.

“What do you suggest we do, Claven?!” The Alpha’s voice communicated a subtle sense of desperation. Claven is a respected and strong wolf, definitely it explains the Alpha’s respect for him.

“We can…try to save her.”

“Try?” The Luna blurted, “what does that mean?”

His face puffed with mild laughter, “this looks like a lot to fix.” Scanning Xandia again, “training her might just be like teaching a baby how to walk again.”

Solemn silence swept the chamber, Xandia eyed him with rage in her eyes. “Show off.”

“Do what you must. You can also tell me all you need for training. I don’t want the council to find an excuse to reject her as alpha.” The alpha announced.

“Then, I guess her training will start as soon as possible.” His eyes immediately narrowed in my direction, my stomach growled again. They have successfully managed to take the attention from me and now they are placing it on me again? He smirked like he was about to be mischievous. “I must admit I’m not the best teachers for beginners. I’ll need help from the only patient warrior I know.”

“Who’s that?” The alpha asked.

His cold eyes left mine and faced the alpha. “Valerie must work with me in the future alpha’s training if we must make any success in this training.”

Just like that he placing me side by side against the Alpha’s original orders. My heart thumped even faster, this must be the end. All I could think of was, ‘what will the alpha say?’ What if he thinks I’m defiling his orders indirectly?

Valerie POVUnable to believe my eyes especially at Claven’s audacious attempt to define the alpha’s orders. Every time I was certain that he would be definitely losing his head, he ended up keeping it and pulling his way with words. Claven has always being the only one who ensured I was comfortable in the pack. He’s one you might call emotionally unavailable at least that’s what he wants everyone to believe. When deep down, he’s a softie. One time o could have sworn he was born into the alpha’s lineage because of his boldness and unapproachable aura. No one said it hit for some guards, they feared his fury even more than the alpha’s.Standing in that space, he wasn’t moved not by the Alpha’s anger or even the tension of the Luna. The determination in his eyes is like no other. Curiosity rising in my heart for the first time. Who exactly is Claven? Why does he have little or no fear for the alpha? Why does it seem like if he doesn’t have his way he can burn th

Now all eyes were on me yet I had no right words for everything. “Claven, show some respect for the alpha.” My voice a little stifled. He stared even more indifferently, “I think it’s best you keep quiet. Or do I need to remind you that everyone under this pack house roof is here for the benefit of the pack.”“Claven?” My eyes pleading with me desperately to stop trying to put me in more trouble.“Claven!” The alpha thundered, “I have already made the decision for Valerie to be an omega and you know I can’t go back on my word.”He chuckled softly, “then you can just rule out your dear daughter from being a defender.” Wagging his head, “I wonder his the council will feel about a vegetable as their incoming alpha.”“Young man!” The Luna roared, “you might be a strong and smart gamma still it doesn’t c

Valerie Pov.. Now thinking of what yo say the words were failing me. What exactly can I say at this moment? ‘The truth’ the soft voice in my head responded. Heaving a deep sigh, lifting my head to begin speaking. “My lord, I grew up with my father spending his entire life for you. From missing my birthdays to forgetting his anniversary with my mum. Yet, it was for a just cause.” Thinking of those moments again caused a swell to rise in my throat. “…serving beside you as your trusted beta for years. Risking his life time and time again.” Wiping the lone tear that escaped my right eye. “He loved you, my lord. And I know you are angry due to the allegations but…deep down you know it.” “Hmmm…” was all he said, twitching my confidence. Threading on egg shells, there’s very little I can do right now to avoid stepping on his toes. “He imbibed in me the teachings of integrity that I have held on to for years. He would never betray the pack.” “You sound so sure.” The queen said, leaning

Valerie's Pov. With every step my heart raced faster, we were far from Claven’s cabin when I realized that o was really doing this. Stepping back into the place that nearly took my life. Getting to the gate of the pack house, the air heavy with uncertainty and tension. My feet stuck to the ground for some minutes, looking around the gate. The sight brought back nostalgic memories. A warm sensation filled my palms. It was Xandia’s palms locked in mine. “What’s wrong?” Not sure whether my fears were valid. “It’s nothing. Just a little nervous.” She tugged my arms, “don’t worry about anything. I’m with you.” Her firm voice gave me some confidence to enter into the pack house. Stared and shock on the faces of some guards and maids caused my stomach to growl. “Good day, my lady!” One guard blocked us before stepping further into the alpha’s chamber. “The alpha is having a meeting with some delegates.” Valerie nodded, “then we’ll wait by the side of the door.” He threw me a we

Valerie’s POV Letting Xandia into his house roused a lot of uncertainties already. Then him blocking us on our way out, gave me all the shrills. He stared at us coldly without saying a word. His face expressionless so much that I couldn’t read a thing. “Hi?” I smiled wryly. Xandia staring at me did the same thing. “Hi.” Whispering in my ears, “is he the owner of this place?” I hummed a response, “hmm.” Turning my attention back to him. “Sorry, I was worried when I woke up and didn’t find you.” Just wagging his head, “I was busy in the woods and you were asleep.” Advancing, “are you going somewhere?” Scratching my neck, “actually…we were.“ His stretched palm interrupted me as he stared closely at Xandia. “I know you…or I’ve seen you before.” “That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you.” He pushed us lightly and walked into the cabin. We had to drag ourselves behind him. “So, Xandia here came to take me back to the pack house.” He froze in his steps, turning back slo
