The Last War

The morning after Eden disappeared, Blackwood should have been peaceful.

The warriors had returned to their posts. The wounded were being treated. The ancient Veils remained closed, and the strange golden doorway that Eden had used was nowhere to be seen.

For the first time in many days, Aria allowed herself to believe that the worst was over.

She stood beside the castle window with one hand resting over her stomach.

Kael stood behind her.

“You're thinking too much again.”

Aria smiled faintly.

“I don't know how to stop.”

“You could try.”

She turned to him.

“You're not very helpful.”

“I never claimed to be.”

She laughed softly.

Then—

Knock.

They both froze.

Another sound followed.

Knock.

The walls trembled.

Kael immediately moved toward the window.

“Stay behind me.”

Aria frowned.

“Kael—”

Knock.

The third knock shook the entire castle.

The seven stars above Blackwood suddenly disappeared.

The sky became completely black.

The First Guardian rushed into the room.

His face was pale.

“Everyone must leave the eastern tower.”

Kael looked at him.

“What is happening?”

The Guardian stared at the sky.

“The First World has opened.”

Aria's heart tightened.

“I thought Eden closed the Veils.”

“She did.”

“Then why are they opening again?”

The Guardian slowly looked at her.

“Because someone is knocking from the other side.”

A fourth knock echoed.

Then a fifth.

Then a sixth.

The final knock came so loudly that every candle in the castle went out.

The Guardian whispered:

“The last war has begun.”

The castle courtyard filled with warriors.

Werewolves stood beside humans.

Guardians stood beside witches.

Even former enemies had gathered together.

Aria looked across the crowd.

Nobody was running.

Nobody was hiding.

They were waiting.

Kael walked to the front.

“Whatever comes through that Veil…”

He raised his sword.

“…we face it together.”

The warriors answered with a roar.

Then the sky split.

A massive golden crack appeared above the kingdom.

Something moved behind it.

One figure stepped through.

Then another.

Then hundreds.

The First Guardian stared upward.

“The First World.”

Aria looked at the army.

They wore ancient armor.

Their weapons glowed with strange light.

At the center stood a man wearing a crown of black metal.

His eyes were completely silver.

He looked directly at Aria.

“The Forbidden Bride.”

Kael stepped forward.

“Don't call her that.”

The stranger smiled.

“You still believe you can protect her.”

Kael's eyes turned silver.

“I don't believe.”

He raised his sword.

“I know.”

The stranger laughed.

“My name is Avaris.”

The Guardian whispered:

“The First King.”

Aria stared.

“The ruler who created the original prophecy?”

“Yes.”

Avaris looked toward her stomach.

“Give me the child.”

Aria's expression hardened.

“No.”

“Then your kingdom will fall.”

Aria stepped beside Kael.

“Then you'll have to bring it down yourself.”

Avaris lifted his hand.

The ancient army charged.

The final war had begun.

The first attack struck the eastern wall.

Warriors rushed forward.

Kael transformed and charged into the battlefield.

Aria raised the Blade of Unity.

Silver light spread across the courtyard.

Every warrior touched by the light felt their strength return.

Ronan shouted orders.

“Protect the gates!”

The Guardians created barriers.

The witches raised shields.

Humans carried injured warriors away from the battlefield.

For hours, Blackwood held.

But the enemy kept coming.

Aria looked toward the sky.

The golden crack was getting larger.

The First World was slowly entering theirs.

The First Guardian approached her.

“We cannot hold them forever.”

Aria looked at the battlefield.

“Then we don't hold them forever.”

“What do you mean?”

“We end the war.”

The Guardian stared at her.

“How?”

Aria looked toward Avaris.

“He believes the prophecy gives him power.”

The Guardian nodded.

“Then we take away the prophecy.”

Aria's eyes narrowed.

“The prophecy has already changed.”

“Not completely.”

“What is left?”

The Guardian hesitated.

“One final line.”

Aria looked at him.

“What does it say?”

He whispered:

“The final choice will belong to the Forbidden Bride.”

Aria looked at the battlefield.

Then she understood.

The war was not going to be won by the strongest warrior.

It would be won by a choice.

Avaris entered Blackwood alone.

The army behind him stopped.

Kael stepped forward.

Aria stood beside him.

Avaris looked around the kingdom.

“So this is what you built.”

Aria answered:

“This is what we protected.”

“You could rule the entire world.”

“I don't want the entire world.”

“Then what do you want?”

Aria placed a hand over her stomach.

“A future for my child.”

Avaris smiled.

“You still don't understand.”

He raised his hand.

The ancient prophecy appeared in the air.

Golden words surrounded Aria.

THE CHILD WILL OPEN THE LAST DOOR.

Avaris continued.

“Your child will connect every world.”

Aria stared at the prophecy.

“And?”

“And whoever controls the child controls every world.”

Kael stepped forward.

“That won't happen.”

Avaris looked at him.

“You are nothing but a vessel.”

Kael's expression changed.

Avaris continued.

“You carry the blood of the First Alpha.”

Kael's hands tightened.

“You were born to serve the prophecy.”

“No.”

Avaris smiled.

“Then prove it.”

He attacked.

Kael blocked the strike.

The impact sent both of them across the courtyard.

Aria raised her sword.

But the First Guardian stopped her.

“Wait.”

She looked at him.

“Why?”

“Because Kael has to make his own choice.”

Kael and Avaris fought beneath the broken sky.

Avaris was faster.

Stronger.

Older.

Every strike forced Kael backward.

“You cannot defeat me,” Avaris said.

Kael wiped the dust from his face.

“I don't need to.”

Avaris frowned.

“What?”

Kael looked toward Aria.

“I only need to protect what matters.”

Avaris attacked again.

Kael blocked him.

Then something changed.

The silver light around Kael became gold.

The First Guardian stared.

“The First Alpha's blood…”

The golden light disappeared.

A second light appeared.

Silver.

The Guardian whispered:

“The First Guardian's blood.”

Kael's eyes changed.

He suddenly understood.

He wasn't created to serve the prophecy.

He had inherited the power to reject it.

Avaris stepped backward.

“What are you?”

Kael raised his sword.

“Someone who chooses his own path.”

The two powers combined.

Kael struck.

Avaris was thrown backward.

For the first time, fear appeared in the First King's eyes.

Avaris disappeared into the golden crack.

The army followed him.

The battlefield became silent.

Aria looked toward the sky.

The crack was still open.

The First Guardian walked toward her.

“The war isn't finished.”

“I know.”

“The First World will continue sending warriors.”

“Then we'll go to them.”

Kael returned to her side.

“You heard him.”

Aria nodded.

“We're going through the Veil.”

Ronan looked shocked.

“Into the First World?”

“Yes.”

The Guardian shook his head.

“You don't know what is waiting there.”

Aria looked at him.

“Neither did I when I entered Blackwood Forest.”

She took Kael's hand.

“But I survived.”

Kael smiled.

“And I'm coming with you.”

The warriors prepared to follow.

Aria raised the Blade of Unity.

The golden crack opened wider.

Beyond it stood an enormous palace surrounded by darkness.

Avaris waited at the entrance.

He raised his hand.

“Come.”

Aria stepped forward.

“This ends tonight.”

The First World was unlike anything Aria had ever seen.

There was no sun.

No moon.

Only endless golden clouds.

The palace stood in the center of the world.

Thousands of ancient warriors surrounded it.

But Aria noticed something.

They weren't attacking.

They were waiting.

Avaris stood on the palace steps.

“You came.”

Aria looked around.

“Why did you bring us here?”

“Because this is where the first prophecy was written.”

The First Guardian stepped forward.

“And where the first mistake was made.”

Avaris's expression hardened.

“You know nothing.”

“I know everything.”

The Guardian raised his staff.

“The prophecy was never created to protect the world.”

Aria looked at him.

“Then why?”

“To control it.”

Avaris laughed.

“Exactly.”

He turned toward Aria.

“Now you understand.”

Aria shook her head.

“No.”

Avaris frowned.

“You just admitted it.”

“You created the prophecy because you were afraid.”

Silence.

Aria continued.

“Afraid of losing control.”

Avaris's expression changed.

“You're wrong.”

“You divided the worlds because you were afraid.”

“You created bloodlines because you were afraid.”

“You created destiny because you were afraid people would choose something you couldn't control.”

Avaris stared at her.

Aria raised her sword.

“But fear doesn't decide our future.”

Avaris raised both hands.

The entire First World began shaking.

Thousands of golden symbols appeared in the sky.

The prophecy surrounded Aria.

Words appeared around her.

YOU WILL BECOME QUEEN.

YOU WILL BECOME THE FORBIDDEN BRIDE.

YOU WILL BEAR THE CHILD.

YOU WILL OPEN THE FINAL DOOR.

Aria stared at them.

Then she smiled.

“No.”

The words began cracking.

Avaris shouted:

“You cannot reject destiny!”

Aria raised the Blade of Unity.

“I just did.”

The blade struck the ground.

A wave of silver light spread across the First World.

The prophecy began disappearing.

One sentence vanished.

Then another.

Then another.

Avaris screamed.

“STOP!”

Aria continued.

“You don't own my life.”

Another line disappeared.

“You don't own Kael's life.”

Another vanished.

“And you don't own my child's future.”

The final words shattered.

The entire prophecy disappeared.

For the first time in thousands of years…

there was no written future.

Avaris fell to his knees.

“No…”

The First Guardian looked at Aria.

“You did it.”

Aria lowered her sword.

“No.”

She looked toward the people around them.

“We all did.”

Without the prophecy, the ancient army lowered their weapons.

One warrior after another dropped their swords.

Avaris stared at them.

“You will obey me!”

Nobody moved.

“You are my army!”

Still nothing.

A young warrior stepped forward.

“No.”

Avaris looked shocked.

The warrior removed his helmet.

“We don't have to obey you anymore.”

Another warrior stepped forward.

Then another.

Soon thousands stood against their king.

Avaris looked at Aria.

“This is your fault.”

Aria shook her head.

“No.”

She looked at the warriors.

“This is their choice.”

Avaris's body began glowing.

Dark energy surrounded him.

“If I cannot control the world…”

His voice became deeper.

“…then I will destroy it.”

The First Guardian shouted:

“Everyone back!”

Avaris released the power of the First World.

The palace began collapsing.

The sky turned black.

Kael grabbed Aria's hand.

“We need to leave.”

Aria shook her head.

“Not yet.”

“What are you doing?”

“Ending this.”

She walked toward Avaris.

He raised his hand.

Aria didn't attack.

Instead, she lowered her sword.

Avaris stared at her.

“Why aren't you fighting?”

“Because that's what you want.”

His expression changed.

“You want me to fight you because fighting proves your belief.”

“What belief?”

“That power is the only answer.”

Aria stepped closer.

“I won't give you that.”

Avaris's power began weakening.

“You cannot defeat me without fighting.”

Aria looked directly into his eyes.

“Then maybe I don't need to defeat you.”

Avaris stood alone.

His power was fading.

His army had abandoned him.

His prophecy was gone.

His throne was broken.

He looked at Aria.

“What do you want from me?”

“Nothing.”

He frowned.

“Then why are you here?”

“To give you the same thing everyone else has.”

“What?”

“A choice.”

Avaris stared at her.

“You would let me choose?”

“Yes.”

“Even after everything?”

“Yes.”

He looked at the broken palace.

For thousands of years, he had believed control was the only way to protect the world.

Now, for the first time, nobody was forcing him to do anything.

He slowly lowered his hands.

The darkness disappeared.

Avaris closed his eyes.

“I don't know how to choose.”

Aria answered softly:

“Then start with one choice.”

He opened his eyes.

“What choice?”

“Stop.”

Avaris looked toward the people he had controlled.

Then toward the ruined palace.

Finally, he dropped his crown.

It struck the ground.

The First World became silent.

The war was over.

When Aria and Kael returned to Blackwood, the sky was clear.

The golden crack had disappeared.

The ancient Veils were sealed—not by force, but by choice.

The First Guardian stood before the people.

“The old age is finished.”

The crowd remained silent.

“The age of prophecy is finished.”

Aria looked at Kael.

He smiled.

“And now?” Ronan asked.

The Guardian looked toward Aria.

“Now they decide what comes next.”

Aria stepped forward.

She looked at humans.

Werewolves.

Guardians.

Witches.

And every other race that had once lived separately.

“No more secret kingdoms.”

“No more forced bloodlines.”

“No more rulers who believe fear gives them the right to control others.”

The crowd listened.

“We will build one world.”

Not a perfect world.

Not a world without disagreement.

But a world where everyone could choose their own path.

Kael stepped beside her.

“And if anyone threatens that freedom…”

He looked across the kingdom.

“We stand together.”

The crowd erupted.

For the first time, the sound wasn't a battle cry.

It was hope.

Months passed.

Blackwood changed.

The old walls were repaired.

The battlefield became a garden.

The ancient council was replaced by representatives from every kingdom.

Humans and supernatural beings began living openly beside one another.

The First Guardian spent his days rewriting the history books.

Eden remained with Aria and Kael.

She no longer spoke about destiny.

She simply enjoyed being part of a family.

And Aria's child continued to grow.

One evening, Aria stood on the balcony.

Kael joined her.

“You're quiet.”

She smiled.

“I was thinking about everything that happened.”

“Regrets?”

“A few.”

He looked at her.

“Would you change anything?”

Aria thought for a moment.

“I would change the pain.”

“And everything else?”

She looked toward the peaceful kingdom.

“No.”

Kael took her hand.

“We made it.”

Aria smiled.

“We did.”

A tiny movement came from her stomach.

Kael's eyes widened.

“The baby.”

Aria laughed.

“Yes.”

He placed his hand beside hers.

Another small movement answered.

Kael smiled.

“I can't wait to meet our child.”

Aria looked at him.

“Whatever they become…”

She paused.

“…we won't decide for them.”

Kael nodded.

“They'll choose.”

The moon rose above Blackwood.

No ancient voice spoke.

No prophecy appeared.

No enemy emerged from the darkness.

For the first time, the future was completely unknown.

And that was exactly how it was supposed to be.

Epilogue — The Beginning

Years later, Aria would tell her child the story.

She would tell them about the forest.

The Alpha.

The forbidden bond.

The First Queen.

The ancient prophecy.

The wars.

The Veils.

Eden.

And the final battle.

But she would never tell the story as though destiny had controlled them.

Instead, she would always end with the same words:

“Everything changed because we chose.”

Her child would ask:

“What did you choose?”

Aria would smile.

“Freedom.”

“And Dad?”

She would look toward Kael.

He would smile.

“I chose your mother.”

Aria would laugh.

Then their child would ask:

“What should I choose?”

Aria would kneel beside them.

“That's the beautiful part.”

She would place a hand over their heart.

“You get to decide.”

The child would smile.

And somewhere beyond the mountains, a wolf would howl.

Not a warning.

Not a call to war.

A reminder.

The story that began with fear had ended with freedom.

The Forbidden Bride had become a queen.

The Alpha had become a leader.

The prophecy had become nothing more than history.

And the future belonged to the people who would live it.

Aria looked at Kael.

He reached for her hand.

She took it.

Together, they watched the sunrise over a world that no longer needed a prophecy to tell it what to become.
