DRAKE POV

The last few days have been hell for me. I had no other choice other than to throw myself fiercely into my Alpha duties….reviewing patrol routes, reinforcing the eastern perimeter, drilling with the warriors, because it was the only way to keep the memory of Lillian’s words from eating me alive. ‘Remove my Buisness from your mind.’ She had said, and the emptiness it left was a constant hollow ache.

Avoiding her was both a punishment and a necessary action. But the pack house had become a battle field. I would see her on the grounds, walking with Elara, with her head bowed. I would catch a glimpse of her in the corridors, only for her to vanish immediately. Every time I saw her was like a fresh cut, a reminder of the blockage between us. My only option was to turn and walk the other way with my wolf howling in protest every single time.

Tonight’s formal dinner was the height of the torture. Seated at the head of the table, I had a perfect view of everyone. Alpha Kael was seat

LILLIAN POVThe door clicked shut behind Andre and the silence that fell in my office became louder than our shouting of earlier.I sank into my with trembling hands and stared at the roses he had brought. They were beautiful. A peace offering that had turned into a weapon.I hated myself. I hated that Baron’s smug face was the last thing between us before he left.He had showed him what button to push.I could not sit here. I could not breathe in this room that smelled like expensive cologne and rage. I needed to fix this. And to fix it, I needed to see Wanni.I stood up, with shaky legs and walked out into the hallway. The hospital buzzed with its usual calm efficiency. It felt like a mockery.I found Salome in the main lobby. She was kneeling beside an elderly man in a wheelchair, showing him how to use a new inhaler. Her voice was patient and kind.I waited impatiently behind her and tapped my foot continuously on the tile.Salome finished, and patted the man’s shoulder. When she

DRAKE POVThe meeting dragged on for long. My self. Beta Ben, Lucas and two officials, and we were discussing trade routes and patrol schedules. I played the Alpha. When it ended, I stood up. “Beta Ben, Lucas. Stay.”When the other has left, I turned to Ben. “Any news on the woman from the eastern woods? The one seen with the rogue scouts?”Ben shook his head. “Nothing, Alpha. She was seen twice , then vanished. No trail, it is like she was a ghost.”“Keep looking, “ I said. He bowed and left. Now, it’s just Lucas and me, and the air around us still felt thin from our fight.I poured out two glasses of whiskeys. “Sit. Share a drink with me.”“I would rather stand,” Lucas said flatly.l laughed. “All our years, you and I never fought. It was always me and Andre. You were the calm one.”“There is a first time for everything.”I put my glass down. “I was wrong yesterday. To dismiss you. I am sorry.”Lucas’a stance softened slightly. “Apology accepted.”But?”“But,” he sighed. “I do not l

ANDRE POVI left Drake’s office, with the bitter taste of our argument still in my mouth. A shell. You are a shell. He was right. And I had just watched my Alpha and brother break in front of me. I could not fix it. I needed air. I needed to see something good. I needed Lillian. The thought of our dinner later was the only steady thing in my spinning world. But I could not wait. I stopped at a florist in the city, buying a dozen deep red roses. Her favorite. At the hospital, a young nurse smiled when she saw the flowers. “For Dr. Stewart? She is in her office. End of the hall.”“Thank you,” I replied with a stiff smile on my face.I walked down the wuiet hallway, as the scent of the roses mixed with antiseptic. I could already picture her face lighting up with joy. A moment of peace. A reminder of what I was fighting for.I reached her door, my heart feeling lighter for the first time all day. Then I pushed it open.“Lillian, I thought we could—”And then I saw him.Baron. Leaning a

LILLIAN POVI was finishing up patient notes when someone knocked on my office door softly. “Come in,” I called out without looking up.The door opened. “Dr. Stewart? Do you have a moment?”I knew that voice. Smooth, calm, and it sent an immediate chill down my spine. I looked up. Baron stood in my doorway, leaning casually against the door frame. He was dressed impeccably, with a small polite smile on his face. “Baron. This is a hospital. Not a social club,” I said icily.“Believe me, I know,” he said and stepped inside before closing the door softly behind him. “I am here on actual Buisness. A….mutual acquaintance suggested I consult with you. Dr. Wanni mentioned you are the best with complex post traumatic physiotherapy plans.”I stiffened instantly. Wanni. Of course. “She should not have:”“Why not? She is proud of her colleague.” He took a few steps closer, but kept a respectful distance from my desk. “I have an old injury from my….rougher days. It flares up. She thought you co

DRAKE POVI threw myself into work. Piles of boarder reports, trade ledgers, construction permits—anything to fill my mind and stop the images. The look on Lucas’s face. The cold feel of the balcony rail. Lillian’s small, lonely figure in the distance.Someone knocked at my office door. And I ignored it.The person knocked again, harder.“I am busy,” I growled without looking up.The door flew open. Andre stood in the door way, with his eyes blazing.“We need to talk,” he said tightly.“If this is about Elara, save your breath,” I said as I scribbled violently on the report. “My private life is my own. I believe I made that clear.”Andre laughed out bitterly. “No, Drake. It is not about you and Elara. It is about you and Lillian.” My head snapped up and the pen froze in my hand. “What did you say?”Andre strode into the room and slammed the door behind him. “Look at you. You are a shell. you are snapping at everyone. You disappear for hours. You are pushing us away. And it is not bec

  • THE ALPHA’S PUBLIC REJECTION    CHAPTER 179

LILLIAN POVMy head was pounding the next morning. I fumbled with my medical bag as I rushed out the front door. Salome was already on the passenger seat, sipping from a large travel mug.“You look terrible,” she said, softly.I feel terrible,” I mumbled, with my hands on my temple. Then I took a step towards the car.And Then I froze.A sudden, intense feeling swept over me. A sight prickle at the back of my neck, and a heavy weight on my chest. My heart beat furiously as the hair on my arms stood up.I was being watched.I stopped on the driveway, and turned slowly. My eyes scanned the manicured garden, the empty porch and finally, the dense tree line at the edge of the property. The morning mist hung between the dark pines.“Lillian?” Salome called from the car. “You getting in or are you planning to walk?”I could not answer. The feeling was too strong. It was a deep, magnetic pull, an awareness that crackled in the air. Inside me, Nyla stirred, not with alarm, but with a sudden,
