CH. 141 SMART MOVE

AUTHOR’S POV

Alicia awoke with the first rays of dawn casting shades across her bunk bed. She carefully climbed down; her movements were still hindered by a dull ache that lingered in her body. She approached the small drawer in the cell, retrieving her medicine and a bottle of water. As the pill melted on her tongue. Her gaze swept across the empty beds of her cellmates and ended at the open door.

A sigh pulled out of her. Alicia stepped out onto the balcony, observing the morning formalities unfolding before her. The day had begun without her, and she felt an ache tearing through her insides. She made her way to the bathroom area, only to discover her cellmates engaged in a secretive attempt—digging at the bathroom wall, a place rarely disturbed by security.

Alicia couldn't help but admire their cunning. "Smart!" she exclaimed, drawing the attention of her fellow inmates. “I… would never have thought of such an escape plan.”
