Chapter 79

ISLA'S POV

Oxygen returned to the room so fast, it knocked my lungs off. My limbs could suddenly move and my tongue tasted like I had licked a bowl of ashes. I was choking on my saliva and the words my mother had just said. Her voice hummed in my bones like an angry wave. Kyle had killed my family and set me up. My brother was alive somewhere. I closed my eyes briefly. The door cracked open and Sayora walked in. She stopped by the door and looked around. She shrugged.

“How are you feeling now?” She dropped the tray she had been carrying on the bedside. She felt my head with the back of her palm.

“I’m okay.” I managed to push those words past the lump in my throat.

“Sure?” She helped me sit down. The pains I felt before were almost gone completely. I couldn't tell if it was Sayora's herbs or my mother's visit. I bit my lower lip and nodded.

“I’m sure.”

“You look like you've seen a ghost.”
