Chapter 78

ISLA'S POV

It had to be a dream or maybe the side effects of the herbs Sayora had been feeding me. Whatever it was was driving me crazy. I blinked quickly hoping I could blink her away but she was still there. Standing tall and staring down at me. I wanted to scream for Sayora but my voice was suddenly lost. This had to be a fever dream. I wanted to pinch myself to confirm if I was still alive but I couldn't move my hands. I lay stiff there staring at her.

“Did she not tell you I'll come?”

“I know it's you, Kyle,” I bit at the figure in the room. “Stop messing with my head and leave me alone.”

“That’s his name. Kyle.” She spoke softly, just like I remembered her. She took a step closer and warmth seemed to return to the room. “You were in love with that man.”

I swallowed. She stood beside me. So close that her dress brushed my finger tips and sent electric currents running through my body. So close that I could tell she smelled like cinnamon.

“I’m sorry,” my lip

  • THE ALPHA’S SILENT BRIDE   CHAPTER 91

Chapter 91ISLA'S POV My vision blurred and my grip loosened as Sayora dashed through the trees. My head lulled against her furs. I felt too weak to hold on to her but my body felt too heavy. It was almost like my bones had been pulled out and replaced with lead. The sun was already flirting with the horizon. The moment we got to the front of her house, I slipped off her back and curled up on the floor. Sayora changed back to human and carried me inside. I was amazed by how much strength she had. I had not realized how cold I was since we were outside but now that back inside, the warmth of Sayora's home comforted. She dropped me on the couch. “I’ll go heat up some water for you to have your bath.”I sniffed and hugged myself tighter. When she returned, I was staring at nothing. She went on her knees beside the couch. “I didn't want to fight you,” I cried out, my voice cracking. The tears finally came down. “I can't explain what was happening but I never meant to hurt you.”

  • THE ALPHA’S SILENT BRIDE   CHAPTER 90

Chapter 90 LUCIEN’S POVHis eye lids tore apart, giving way to see vaguely. This time, his journey out of subconsciousness was not ephemeral. The scout, he finally opened his eyes.I didn’t sleep the night he opened his eyes. I was sitting by the fire, turning over the blade in my hands, when Callen’s sharp voice broke the silence.“He’s awake!”I was at his side in seconds. For days he had been drifting in and out of a fevered haze. And in those moments consciousness arrived and stayed for a few minutes, he muttered fragments of words, clutching at nothing in the air as though he were still battling whatever had torn him apart in those cursed woods. We had nearly given him up for dead, and part of me had almost wished he’d pass quietly so that I wouldn’t have to live with the gnawing curiosity of what he had seen in there. But fate, it seemed, had other plans. When his eyes finally fluttered open, they looked pale and bloodshot yet undeniably alive. The entire room was still. The s

  • THE ALPHA’S SILENT BRIDE   CHAPTER 89

Chapter 89LUCIEN POV The next morning I was dragged out of sleep by a loud knock on my door. It was not the kind of knock you could ignore. It was sharp and hard, almost like someone wanted to break the door down.I groaned, rubbed my eyes, and pushed myself off the bed. I had barely closed my eyes when I finally fell asleep last night. My head still felt heavy. I opened the door and found Callen standing there with a grim face. His shoulders were tense, and his eyes carried a kind of urgency that made my chest tighten.“What is it?” I asked, my voice hoarse from sleep.“It’s the scout,” Callen said in a rush. “His condition got worse overnight. Yvonne says he may not make it if we keep him here. We need to take him to a proper hospital before he dies.”That woke me up fully. My stomach turned and my wolf stirred uneasily inside me. “How bad is he?”“Very bad,” Callen said flatly. “He’s burning up. His breathing is shallow. We can’t keep him in the pack infirmary anymore. He needs

  • THE ALPHA’S SILENT BRIDE   CHAPTER 88

Chapter 88TARLYN’S POV“Kane!” I bellowed.Another nightmare. Another night. The same plot; different setting; and different nights. In these dreams, Kane was free. He walked through corridors and streets. His eyes burned with rage. He fixed them on me but I was too scared to look into them. They burned with vengeance. They burned an inferno. His lips curled in that smile I knew too well. A smile that screamed mockery. A smiled that revealed a promising pain. I was too afraid so I ran as fast as my legs could carry. But no matter how fast I ran, no matter how loud I screamed, no matter what nook and cranny I hid in, he was always closer. I always felt him there. And each time, I woke with my throat soar from silent scream and twisted sheets around me like chains.Sweat danced all over my face and body. It danced to the beats played by the nightmare I had just survived. “It was all a dream…not real. You will be okay.” I whispered in a bid to pacify myself. Perhaps, affirming it to m

Chapter 87ISLA'S POV My eyes widened. I couldn't explain what was happening to me. My pulse hammered like drums in my ears. The hum was back. Louder, this time. It didn't just vibrate in my bones anymore. It felt like the spirits of the woods were screaming inside me. I shut my ears with my palms but that barely did anything. I heard a crack and clutched at my ribs. “What are you doing to me?” I screamed at Kyle but there was no response. My skin burned and the light continued racing through my body as if tracing each vein. My muscles tensed and ached so bad I thought they will snap and they did. My spine ached forward and I could hear my bones breaking and grinding against each other. My feet moved but it didn't feel like mine anymore. I was bent over and my fingernails grew into claws. My eyes widened and I opened my mouth to scream but my jaw tore as my teeth changed. It felt like I was moving through a dimension I couldn't explain. Every sound suddenly far away and I fe

Chapter 86ISLA'S POV Panic started to engulf me and I broke out in a cold sweat. The muscles of my legs tightened and I wanted to dash away and back into the house but I felt rooted to the spot. The roar of my blood filled my ears and my mouth suddenly felt dry. I turned around slowly trying to see where the noise had come from but there was nothing. The sound of the man that the woods had thrown away still rang loudly in my ears. Goosebumps appeared on my skin and I rubbed my palm across my arm. A part of me wanted to turn around and get back to the warmth of my bed and the safety of Sayora's home but I couldn't. My body could not obey that command. My heart was frantic within me. Hitting against my ribs like a wild prisoner. It was beating so fast it almost hurt. Suddenly, there was silence. The woods seemed to hold its breath. I could not hear the sound of the wind or the rustle of leaves. Even the nocturnal animals who seemed to be having a swell time had gone quiet and th
