Despite of her worry, Jana calmly settled on the bed and started to think about this mission. There's no way this game is just a dream. She slapped her face a few times before confirming that this is real. Jana loathes to recall the reason why she ended up inside this mission. She had chosen this herself. She practically accepted everything that Vivien told her when she fainted.
She decided to focus on the problem at hand.
Queenie Servantes, her role in this mission, is a human ladder created to make the protagonist have her own happy ending with the male lead. Her death was the catalyst to their conflict, which will they pass without much sweat, and then they would go fly towards happily ever after with holding hands.
Although Jana loves happy endings, she can't help but feel sorry for this character.
Not fair. Not given justice. It wasn’t even realistic. Queenie’s life being given just like that just to move the plot forward.
Whomever wrote this plotline clearly hates someone named ‘Queenie’ in real life.
Must be one of the developers.
She can’t do anything about it but endure.
‘Easy Mode.’
Jana closed her eyes firmly. Taking her glasses off, she pulled the cover over her head. The main characters hadn't met each other yet. Jana can't force the game to stop the two from seeing each other—she can't avoid the protagonist's shining halo for long. She must face Hailey soon.
Knowing that the two didn't know each other's presence now comforted Jana for a while.
Jana positioned herself into a sleeping pose and waited for a minute.
After ensuring that her mood is stable, she started to thrash on the bed. When her hand accidentally hit the bedpost, her scream was sincere.
“S-Stop!” she wailed. The effect was astounding. Queenie had been quiet for days now, making her voice deep, and extremely pitiful in the ears. “Make that car stop! N-No!”
A loud series of footsteps inspired Jana to scream louder. Beads of sweat took form on her forehead. She knew what Queenie looks like. A princess in distress. This type of acting attracts the male lead in the movies. Nothing could go wrong with befriending the ML!
The doorknob was jilted forward. Jana whimpered. A gasp from the person kicked Jana's pulse hard. “Ms. Queenie?” Giovanni, in his full height of 6'2, clad in royal blue pyjama bottom and white loose shirt, hurried to her side. “Ms. Queenie, wake up.”
Warmth seeped from the bedsheet to her skin. Jana sighed comfortably on the familiar scent in Giovanni's clothes. Her guess was right. The male lead is now living with Queenie, acting as her aide. The poor cannon fodder was now accepting of the male lead's existence. The plot summary clearly stated that Queenie is not trusting and even disgusted to Giovanni. But this reaction seems... not like that at all. Far more accepting than she should have. Jana's reaction to his scent screams a lot of the word ‘dependence’.
Vivien reminded her about the matter of the OOC feature. As the new soul occupying the body, Jana can feel the lingering feeling of the original owner. It should pass but Jana should be aware in order to have pointers she could use against the characters of this level. A little guide. Jana can’t move against the original character’s personality, or else she will be given a glaring minus points.
“Stop!” Jana held Giovanni in a death grip, trying to pull herself up. “Make it stop! It hurts!”
“Oh, God,” Gio muttered, “ssh, Ms. Queen…it's okay. Stop crying. It's over, okay?”
‘This male lead is a good person,’ Jana praised. She took a peek at Gio's face. She froze upon seeing him up close. ‘The original owner of this body either had seen much beautiful guys or she's blind!’
How could Queenie Servantes hate Giovanni? The man is a walking charm! A living chandelier! Shaking her head no, Jana didn't forget to twitch for a moment before exclaiming, “Mr. Giovanni, what…”
Giovanni sighed. Defeated and extremely careful, he assisted Jana on sitting properly before answering, “Ms. Queenie had a nightmare just now. I will go to the kitchen and get you a glass of milk. Ms. Queen, please wait.”
Jana stared at the man's lowered head, marvelling on how did the man have a perfect symmetrical face only to use it for frowning. “Don't,” Jana said softly, “don't leave, please.”
The male lead stiffened. Jana wondered on how far did Queenie's insult had reached inside the man's head. It won't be a surprise if the man regards Queenie as a monster in disguise.
“Ma'am Queenie…”
Jana closed her eyes and pleaded, “I know I've been too much to handle, Mr. Giovanni. I'm sorry for the trouble.” She felt her cheeks burning because of shame. With blurry sight, she tried searching Gio in the dark. The lamp on her bedside allowed her to only see up close. Queenie's blurred eyesight doesn't help her either.
Seconds later, Giovanni pushed the switch on. Jana can now see the male lead. The man's worried frown almost had her laughing. Gio settled her glasses. “Everything's clear now, Ms. Queen?”
“T-Thank you.”
The male lead stumbled on his way to the door. Eyes bright with confusion, Jana hugged herself. “I…realized a few things in that dream.”
Giovanni felt relieved. The sudden drop of his shoulders shows his deep exhale. “What is it, Ma'am Queen?”
“I-I saw you pushing me…wanting me to be dead,” Jana stuttered, “a car was fast approaching me and you…you.”
Giovanni went to her side again. Jana's head was now buried inside the man's embrace for the second time. “I won't do that. Ms. Queen, you might not know this but I know what you've been through. Your family explained it to me. I know the risks. I won't let you down.”
Tears rolled from Jana's eyes. Her chest grew uncomfortable and stuffy. This is the pent up emotions from the original owner of the body. “Please forgive me. My family don't want me anymore. I'll pay you, just…don't leave my side.”
Giovanni didn't reply. Jana can understand how he felt. He must be dumbfounded by now. Even Jana did not expect that the feelings of the original owner will remain. The emotions were strong, and definitely not hers.
‘The out-of-character feature will automatically turn itself off after 50 V+ is stored.’ The Ai explained, ‘The player must not act different from the original owner. Decreasing merits are the punishment if this notice is disregarded.’
“I won't. I promise.”
Jana nodded. To whom was the affirmation is yet to be known. She is still thinking about something—something that made her change perception towards Queenie.
If crying and asking for forgiveness didn't give her a penalty, that means Queenie would do this too if the woman was given a chance. Jana couldn't help but wonder if Queenie's end would be in a better state.
Morning came and it was spent on an awkward breakfast. The downtown's area was clouded with a storm. Loud booming of thunder can be heard from time to time and Jana can't help but flinch every time it comes. Gio would only watch her from behind. She tried eating as if the storm was just a show but inside, she's terrified. The trauma that Queenie had from the accident has not yet subsided. Jana now knows that loud, sudden noises can trigger Queenie's anxiety. Jana felt helpless about it. When she twitched for the nth time, Giovanni sighed unnoticeably. “Ms. Queen, how about we move inside?” “Hmn…” Jana shovels a large amount of bread inside her mouth. “No need to trouble yourself. It's just a little rain.” The sky, as if it heard her, gave another loud boom. Jana hurriedly took the glass of water and drank. Wiping her mouth, she asked, “Can we go now? I'm full.” Unbeknownst to her, Giovanni lifted a corner of his mouth. He didn't know that Queenie Servantes had this side. The wo
Gentle murmurs from the people stopping by for a bite filled the entire Hailey's Sweets. The lively hot neon pink sign standing high above the shop's double doors contrasts the gloomy weather. Everyone who went past the bakery could not help but sigh and stop for a while. The 'open' sign just above the door handles swayed softly, indicating that another person has been bewitched to stop and have a drink. Hailey, the proud owner of the said shop, eyed the costumers with a satisfied smile. "Boss madam, we're still at work and you keep daydreaming," Hailey's cousin, Memoir Greystone chided. The woman playfully pinched her arms before sliding past a few people to deliver orders. A pink apron hugging her waist tightly. Memoir always bugged her about the new uniform but Hailey always thought that it's good. She knew of Memoir's baggy taste in clothes and there's no way she was going to approve it. Bright colors suited them best, it's like they were born to make fun of their family name.
Giovanni leaned towards Jana, hugging her waist before hoisting her up. The man's muscles are rippling because of her weight. Jana caught a whiff of Gio's perfume, taking in a discreet intake of breath, she lay pliant against the man's chest. Gio wore a simple grey sweater and black fitted pants. A match to her black dress and silver purse. All for the monthly check up of her physical state. Her check up has finished just a moment ago and it drained Jana so much. She felt very weak when it all came to an end. All those tests done to Queenie's body had her terrified. Vivien soothed her by telepathy but the Ai's voice in her consciousness only sent her to overdrive. Gio helped her through it by patting her shoulder for a few times. When the deed was done, Jana ranted about why wasn't she rewarded—she managed to go through those tests without fainting! It was as though it is the most remarkable thing she'd ever done in her life except not twisting her foot in every P.E. class. "Ther
It wasn't as nice as Giovanni imagined it to be like. Jana could practically see that thought running inside the guy's head. If it happens that his worries would turn into smoke and start blowing out of his ears, Jana thought, 'I wouldn't be surprised.' The shop felt homey, much to her dismay. Jana liked the design even more the first time she stepped inside. Her resolve to show contempt and disgust was completely blown away by the wind. 'It's hard to hate someone who didn't really do anything wrong.' "I'm...really glad to see you again, cous." Nissa smiled bashfully, taking a quick look in Giovanni's direction before saying, "You even brought your assistant here. Please order everything you like, Gio. It's my treat today." 'I brought him?' Jana threw a questioning glance towards Giovanni. 'Wasn't it you who brought me here?' The guy avoided her glare with great stealth. Jana's mouth twitched. She can't wait to be home and finally knock the insides of this man's head! 'Did he i
Nissa was aghast at the very least. The first thing that registered her brain was the blatant accusation of Queenie. It hurt. She had expected this reaction from her beloved cousin since the surgery but she underestimated Queenie's outright raging. Queenie had changed, and it scared her somehow. On Jana's defense, she's very annoyed with the points she lost. If she could swallow Nissa alive for 50 v+, she won't think twice and just dive to it! Jana was conscious that some parts of Queenie's awareness were gone. Some memories are colluded with blacks and grey. Even Vivien, the Ai, instructed her to rely on the pitiful recounts she could think. Now that Nissa had mentioned the threat of an another assassination, Jana took a relaxed pose on the chair and start thinking steps thoroughly. No one harmed Queenie since Jana took over her body. In the original plot of the story, Queenie never encountered any dangerous situation. Her death was her own decision too. 'So, Nissa must be l
Jana sat with her facial expression stern and unfriendly. One glance in her direction will scare people away. Although inside she's screaming like a crazy fan girl. Hailey Greystone is a warrior princess! Moves like one and does look like it. The female protagonist presented herself tall and gorgeous in all leather glory. Jana now had a full description of her in person. She's a fierce woman who loves bright colors with unnerving passion. Hailey had both arched brow, deep set, jet black eyes and a proud nose. All accentuated by her full, red as a cherry bow-shaped lips. Jana can now understand that Queenie's “cold monarch” temperament is no match to Hailey's “aggressive and straightforward” bearing. Giovanni's humble and bright personality suits Hailey's complicated, strict self. If their happy ending doesn't mean her unfortunate demise, Jana would congratulate them right on the spot. She would even host the wedding for them. Jana will spend Queenie's money with relish. 'I'd ev
'Bringing another person in this dilemma is not foul, right?' Jana looked from left to right before sighing faintly. 'I would really like to pace back and forth right now.' "So, you want me to…just 'talk' to him, right?" Denise, the woman whom Jana met in the internet, said as she flip the magazine in her hand. "I mean, yeah, I could do that. Why not, right?" "What?" Jana opened her mouth only to close it again. This woman reminds her so much of her goofy classmates. Denise even wore a cap backwards. When Jana saw her the first time, she really wanted to befriend her. Now that they have been talking for an hour, she regretted it. "Yes, just talk to him. I'll send you a signal once you need to be close to Gio." Jana needs a perfect timing. Denise can't be all around Gio's personal space every time. It doesn't need to be like that. A simple distraction is all it would take so the two protagonist won't have the time to talk and water their budding love. This is not a villain's beh
Jana envied those person who managed to look beautiful without so much effort. Queenie Servantes is one of those she's jealous the most. Jana is familiar with wearing dresses. It's because she often visited the church with her Aunt Sera. Oftentimes, she found these dainty clothes annoying. Especially when she's not accustomed to feel airy down there whenever she opens her leg a little. Jana preferred jumpers. Those with straps and steel clips that stops men from peeing anywhere because of its not-so-handy design. She haven't pictured herself wearing a gown though. The reason is, Jana couldn't afford it. Jana was known to wear cheap dresses during promenade. And although it didn't hurt her pride when she loses reputation (she hates most people), the incredulous look of her own classmates do stung a little. She had hoped they would understand her and her short financial capabilities. Jana remembered running all over the places just to avoid his crush’s eyes those handful of times.
