Sophie's POV
Sophie let out a loud groan which was overshadowed by the loud music. She stomped her way toward the bar, grabbed a small stool positioned there, and took her seat. Anyone watching her could see how angry she was.
She couldn't believe it.
She didn't understand any of it. It wasn't that the sight of her next-door neighbor at a party irritated her or maybe it did. She only seemed to hate how he seemed to be in the same circle of friends as she. And not only did that irritate her, but she also hated the different women that crawled out of his room every morning.
It said a lot about his character.
“Vodka,” she gritted at the bartender who flashed her a small smile in return.
“Sophie,”
She heard her name being called but it didn't make her turn around toward Joyce. If anything, the way her name rolled out of Joyce's lips and the tone she was using only seemed to aggravate her. It was probably the only reason why after she had been served the drink, she took it down in one gulp.
“Sophie,” Joyce had finally gotten to where she was seated. Joyce's face was a mask of confusion. Her brown orbs demanded an explanation from her friend when she let her fingers glide under the skin of her jaw and turn her toward her.
“What the hell was that?” She demanded, eyes widening in confusion.
“What in the hell was what?” Sophie feigned confusion, shrugging two of her shoulders. Turning around toward the bartender who was still staring at her, she tapped the rim of her glass twice for a refill. He didn't hesitate before carrying out her orders.
“Don't pull that card on me. You know very much what I'm talking about.” She huffed and swatted her curly permed red hair over her shoulders. Due to the way things were rushed, she barely had the time to pull an appearance for the party. But even at that, everyone could still see how Chic Joyce was looking in jean mini skirts and cropped black sequined tops. Her feets occupied the modern fashion black boots that complemented her badass look.
“No, I don't. Why don't you tell me about it.” Sophie rolled her eyes, her shoulders dropping down in exhaustion. She was tired.
The past few hours had been tiresome for her and she didn't know how long she could go on pretending like she wasn't tired. But even with how tired she was, it wasn't in her character for her to ever admit that she was tired.
She would never.
Her attitude toward dealing with her issues herself and owning up to responsibilities over the years had shaped her into the woman she was. She let out a small groan and grabbed her glass again as soon as it was replaced in front of her.
Like the flash of an eagle, Joyce grabbed the filled glass from her grip and took it away from her reach. The loud gasp that accompanied that action as well as how quickly Sophie seemed to snap her head around could make her neck have issues if she wasn't careful.
“Joyce, don't.” She wagged a finger at her best friend in warning, her green eyes blaring with feigned fury.
“Don't what? I saw you gulp down a glass now. Don't you think you want to slow down a little bit?” She asked before taking a sip from the glass. An action that made Sophie want to have her head.
“Nope,” she hissed. “Hand it over, Joyce. I'm warning you. Don't you dare take another s—” She was still talking when Joyce raised the glass and almost chugged down the entire thing.
Sophie gasped, annoyed.
“How dare you!” She eyed her best friend.
“You were saying?” Joyce grinned as she exhaled in relief. She placed the glass down before balancing herself on the stool properly. “Oh, come on. It's my business here because I'd have to deal with carrying your stubborn ass to the car.” She sulked.
“Bullshit.” Sophie countered with a glare. “You and I both know that I'm not a lightweight.” And with that, she turned toward the bartender and demanded another refill.
“Okay, jokes off. What's up with you and that sexy guy that looks like he just dropped off from heaven?” Joyce leaned in, excitement radiating off her attractive smile.
Sophie let out a groan at her words before a grimace crossed her face. She tried to think of her next-door neighbor as sexy but it only made her eyes burn.
“Eww,” she sneered. “Your taste in men needs to be upgraded, Babe. How can your eyes be open yet you will still be this blind?” She asked, sarcasm dripping off her voice.
“Really?” Joyce feigned nonchalance. “Come on, let's be honest. That guy I just saw is a living, breathing, walking temptation. Come on, didn't you see the abs? Everything is defined.” Joyce squealed.
Sophie shook her head with a smile. Even though she was amused, she tried not to chuckle at her best friend.
“You do know you have a boyfriend, right?” She reminded her.
“Of course,” the red-haired nodded.
“And he is around this area. How would he feel if he heard you describing another man as sexy?” Sophie nudged her.
“Don't do that to me. You know I'm allowed to admire. He is not my husband yet.” She pouted for a second right before her face brightened up with a beautiful smile. “Alright, I get the point. Now, stop stalling and tell me about him. Was he one of your recent dates?” Joyce asked.
“I wish. Or not, he is not my type.” Her smile was bristled when she said the last line. “But he is my next-door neighbor. There, you have it.” She gestured before she turned away from Joyce's stunned look to take a sip of her refilled drink, letting the contents burn down her throat.
“Are you talking about the same guy that almost ripped off your blue dress? The one you spent millions on?” Joyce sounded incredulous.
“Yes, Joyce, yes.” She gritted out.
“Wow.” Joyce was still speechless. Sophie didn't let her say anymore as she downed the rest of her drink and slide off the stool. She grabbed Joyce's hands and began to pull her toward the dance floor.
She needed to get the exhaustion out of her system. She needed to put on her big girl pants and stop sulking. Yes, she had a terrible day and a terrible evening. She was not going to let anyone ruin her night though. Those were the thoughts she had in mind when she lost herself to the music and danced off with her best friend.
With parties, she could be free.
Sophie's POVSophie's eyes peeled open when the pound in her head intensified. She let out a loud groan, her voice coming out muffled and tired. A loud yawn burst through her lips and she had to place the back of her right palm over her mouth to muffle the sound.Squinting her hazy sight around the room, she jolted up at the black and red-themed room. Her eyes widened in confusion for a second. This was not her room. This was not her house. She could have started panicking right there and then if her eyes hadn't strayed toward the wall and recognized the large picture frame occupying a large part of one of the walls. It was a picture of Joyce with her.The picture was taken at one of the numerous parties they had gone on to when they finished college, so it was a few years old. They had been fresh into the world, wide and enthusiastic about everything. But even then, the duo had always loved parties. Anyone staring at the picture would see that parties worked out properly for them, es
Sophie's POVSophie stepped out of her car turning heads. Right from the moment she stepped out of her car, till she got into her private elevator that led her to the grand floor, she was all her employees were talking about. She never wore anything less of herself to work but each time her employees saw her, they always seemed to lose their shit. Most times it was more for other reasons than her beauty. They knew she was a party beast but when she stepped into her premises, she didn't joke around. That was the same mood Sophie had in when she stepped out of the private elevator into the grand foyer that beseeched her office. Her assistant was already seated at her desk and she sashayed past her, Kristen shot out of her seat to follow her into her office.“Is the board room set?” She asked as she pulled off her pants suit blazer and tucked it away, leaving the crisscross inner white wear she had on with her pants. “Yes, everything is set like you want. And here is your coffee,” Krist
Sophie's POVSophie managed to pick up her broken pieces after almost having a mental breakdown. She grabbed her laptop and delved herself into work, refusing to think of anything other than work. When she eventually cleared her table, she walked out and went around the company for an impromptu tour. Most of the workers who encountered her noticed how harsh she sounded and they immediately steered off her path. The ones who weren't smart enough got the brutal brunt of her harsh words. When she was satisfied with the tour, she returned to her office to grab her bag and other things. She was in the car driving home when a call came in from Joyce.“Babe,” Joyce's excited voice did nothing to aid the way Sophie was feeling and because she took too long to reply, Joyce picked up on the mood.“What's wrong? What happened?” Joyce asked in a rush, her voice expressing deep worry and concern.“He stopped by my office to see me,” Sophie divulged in a small voice. At that point, she didn't even
Sophie's POVWrapping the towel tightly around her, Sophie walked into her large walk-in closet and the lights automatically came on. She had just taken a cold shower and almost regretted it. She was hungry. Asides from the creamy coffee she had earlier in the morning, she hadn't taken anything else. She hoped that for her sake the date wouldn't be a total waste of time. Her eyes scanned the array of dresses on the hanger. Eventually, she settled for blue cerulean dress. She let her towel fall off, pulled up her underwear quickly before slipping into the dress. The dress was very stylish and beautiful. The color clicked well with the color of her eyes and matched with her white hair. It was a mid-thigh dress that hugged and accentuated her curve in a specific way. The upper part of the dress was low, revealing in a deep sweetheart almost cupped neckline that had her cleavages in display. She didn't mind; she loved and adored dresses like that. It made her feel like a woman. The sleeve
Tyler's POVWhen Tyler had agreed to have dinner with his investors, he had hoped that his night would be less stressful and more enjoyable. But nothing was enjoyable about what he was seeing, now.He hadn't seen Sophie at first, still huddled up in a talk with one of his investors until one of them had pointed at her as sexy. He hadn't even wanted to pay attention to her but then, she walked past him like breeze. Tyler was sure she didn't see him. It was not like he wanted her to see him, not after what had ensued earlier. It was why he had kept his mouth shut and watched her walk toward the devil. At first, Tyler had not noticed the hulk of a man.But Giovanni De Luca was a man of attention. He easily stole the spotlight. As soon as he saw Sophie settled down with him for dinner, his gut feeling had told him that something was wrong. She didn't look happy, didn't look flustered to be seated in front of the big man.Oh, Tyler surely knew him even if he was invisible to the man.For
Sophie's POVSophie stared at her phone with a sigh. That had been like the umpteenth time that she would be checking it. Still, she had found nothing. Each time she realized that there was not a single news of what had happened with Giovanni at the restaurant, she felt her shoulders and stiff body slump in relief. To be honest, she hadn't thought that it was possible, especially with the number of people she had caught filming the scene the day before. She had also waited for that call. The one her father would bless her with for defying his orders but it didn't come and the entire thing made her very uneasy. She couldn't even work properly. After the entire episode when she had broken down, she picked up and drove straight to a bar where she distracted herself by flirting with hungry-looking men, had a drink to last a lifetime, and then she drove herself home. She had only been very lucky to add style to her drinking otherwise she would collapse with a hangover. Now, she was biting
Sophie's POVSophie paced the length and breadth of her apartment. Her palms were so sweaty and she kept rubbing them on her dress with a nervous, trembling smile. “I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to yell at you. It's just that I didn't ask for you to step in...” She stopped, trailing off with a groan.“No, no.” She cried into her hands. That didn't sound right even to her ears and it made her even more uneasy.“Okay, okay. It's alright, Sophie. Breathe.” In her own words, she breathed in deeply and exhaled right after. She repeated the motions a few more times before she finally straightened and headed for her full-length mirror.Standing right in front of it, she practiced her words the same way she had been doing earlier.“I know what I did was wrong. And I haven't exactly been nice to you since you moved in. I get that but you almost ripped off my one million dress!” She screamed at the last part and grimaced. This was not going as easy as she thought and she almost slumped down in e
Tyler's POVTyler sat in shock for more than a second after he walked back into his house. He still couldn't believe it. He was still amazed by the whole thing and that was very much apparent in the way he kept blinking, befuddled.“So, who was it?” His head snapped back toward his open laptop and he shuffled quickly to his couch where he had placed his laptop. He had been on a call with Gabby right before he heard the door ring.At first, he ignored the ring thinking that it was a mistake but when he heard it for the second time, he has been forced to excuse himself from Gabby so he could answer the call. As he stared at Gabby's curious face through the screen of his laptop, he felt like holding up the brown bag and lying that it was an order but he dismissed the thought as soon as it occurred to him. Because of course, there was nothing to lie about.“Who?” Gabby pressed already sensing that it must be someone important if Tyler couldn't speak and was that dumbfounded.“My next-do
