Brenda's POV

I wasn’t sure how long the call lasted, but when he finally ended it and turned back to me, his expression was unreadable again, his features carved from stone.

I crossed my arms, refusing to back down this time. "Are you going to tell me what’s going on, or are you just going to keep brushing me off?"

Lucian didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he moved to the window, staring out into the darkness as if searching for something. "You’re safe," he said eventually, his voice softer now, but still carrying the same authority. "That’s all that matters."

I let out an exasperated breath. "Lucian, stop doing that."

His head snapped toward me. "Doing what?"

"Giving me vague reassurances like I’m some fragile doll that can’t handle the truth." My frustration boiled over. "You pulled me into this. You made me part of your world, whether I wanted to be or not. So tell me what the hell I’m actually up against!"
