"Chris, I am so stupid! I have lost Peter Pencraft!" Ruth cried out as she buried her face into a pillow.

"Ruth, calm down and tell me what happened!" Christine said rolling her eyes.

"You don't understand, I had him. He was talking to me and then I slurped! Babe, I embarrassed myself so much, I think he hated me now!" She added dramatically.

Christine dropped the papers she had been reading and moved onto the bed where Ruth was hitting her chest like a woman who had lost her husband.

"When did you meet him?" She asked patiently.

Ruth wiped her tears and stared up at her friend with a pout. "We met at the club last night..."

"When I was waiting outside or before then?" Christine had kept a good eye on Ruth throughout the time they were at the club. The only time she had lost track of her was when she went to the bathroom and was delayed at the bar.

"You were outside and I went to the bar... He came and then I was drunk. I was giggling like some fool!" She exclaimed slapping a hand to her forehead. "I am sure he has thrown away the card I gave to him!"

A small smile appeared on Christine's face. Ruth could be so dramatic but this was the wrong time to remind her of this.

"Okay listen, just relax. I am sure he will call you," Christine said patting her on the back

"He won't—" she didn't even finish rebuking it when her cell phone started ringing. She threw her eyes to the device and she saw a strange new number.

"Oh my God! Do you think he's the one?" She asked as she picked up the phone and swiped the reply icon.

"Hello," she said in a sweet voice she had cultured over time.

"Good afternoon, this is Alexander... We met last night, how are you?"

Ruth jumped off the bed and covered the mouthpiece of the phone as she screamed. "Fuck! Chris, he is the one!" She jumped in excitement.

Christine laughed at her friend's reaction and got up to give her some kind of privacy. "Have fun!" She mouthed as she walked out of the room.

"I am fine... I am great. How about you?" Ruth finally replied to the handsome man on the other end of the phone.

"We couldn't really talk last night, I was hoping we could meet up later this week for lunch perhaps. If that's fine with you of course," Alex added.

"Sure. Why not?" Ruth let out as her excitement got the better of her. Going on a date with someone as huge as Alexander Pencraft was going to place her on the top of the list among her peers.

"Okay then. I will text you the address by Friday," he said in his usually calm voice. "Do have a lovely day," he added before ending the call.

"Chris!" Ruth screamed the moment she dropped the call. "Chris where are you?" She ran out of her room and went to Christine's room.

Christine dropped her papers one more time and stared at her friend expectantly. "What did he say?"

"He wants us to go on a date!" She cried out.

"That's a nice step. You see, you were worrying over nothing," Christine said with a small smile.

"Oh my God! I need to go shopping for a new dress and change my hair!" Ruth said.

Christine shrugged and was about to return her focus to the papers in front of her when Ruth snatched the papers from her. "What makes you think I am done with you? Young lady, you are coming with me! And right now!" She snapped.

A small frown grew on Christine's face as she tried to get back her papers from her friend. "Ruth, stop it. I have to prepare for this interview," she said.

"Come on! Don't you ever get a break from all of this hard work?!" She asked swinging the papers she had snatched from Christine in the air.

"No, I don't And I can't. Your dad sent me a mail earlier. He wants me to be the project manager in your company. The interview is tomorrow. I have to prepare Ruth, I can't miss this opportunity."

Ruth stopped playing with the papers and dropped them on the table. "Oh," she exclaimed softly. "I didn't know they needed a project manager," She said thoughtfully and then her face burst into a huge smile as she pulled Christine into a hug.

"Congratulations! You have the job already! I will speak to my dad. You have nothing to worry about. Now come on, you need to come with me to the boutique," Ruth said.

Christine shook her head and wondered how she had become friends with Ruth in the first place. "Ruth I am sorry but I can't go. I know you can speak to your dad and he can put in a word or two. But I really want to merit this position. Please let me just prepare for this, I promise I'll make it up to you some other time."

Ruth was a spoilt princess. She had the luxury of just sitting around and doing nothing without having to worry about rent or food. Her parents had more than enough money but not Christine. She had to take care of herself and if she let Ruth lead her around like this she would have herself to blame.

Ruth dropped her mouth into a pout. "You owe me big time Christine!" She said. "You are the one who has always wanted me to date a responsible guy. Now that I have seen one who is not only responsible but rich too, you want to abandon me?"

"I am not abandoning you. I am just not available at the moment and I have promised to make it up to you, okay?" Christine retorted.

Ruth took a deep breath and ran a hand through her hair. "Fine, I will let you get away this time. But next time, there will be no turning back!" She said before waltzing out of the room.

He could not help himself.Seeing Christine after all this time was the best thing to happen to him today. Well, after getting married to his wife that is.When Ruth had asked him to let her go and get Christine back to New York, he had agreed without a second thought. He had guided his agreement under the veil that Ruth needed her best friend since she had always been a part of Ruth's life but actually, he had not agreed because of that. In fact, the thought of Ruth needing Christine especially to settle down in her newly made marital home was absurd and something he would never have tolerated but he needed to see her.He had offered Ruth his private jet to go and get Christine because he could not wait for the delay a commercial airplane would pose. And when Ruth had asked tha

She had not turned the light on when she had come in and collapsed onto her bed. At least that was what she remembered happening. But she was able to see Ruth's face thanks to the dim light that filtered into the room from the opened door. She however could not read Ruth's expression through the dimly lit room but she wished she could. It would have given her a better understanding of what she was about to face."Um..." She started to say trying to fill the silence between them."You were moaning my husband's name, Christine.
