I stood at the bottom of the stairs, arms folded over my chest over my chest, watching Jake casually finish off his cheesecake like we didn’t have an entire storm still lingering between us. Like I embarrassed myself few days ago and it was so brave of me to stand in front of him.

The café smelled like expresso and fried oil, and the chilled booths hadn’t changed since we used to sit in them during our nights shift, legs aching, hair smelling like oil.I spotted Pam in the back corner, sunglasses perched on her head like a crown, giant hoops swinging with every frantic sip of her iced coffee. She was scrolling through her phone with a scowl on her face, and when she looked up and saw me she didn’t smile. She slammed her phone down.“Bitch.”I smiled. “Hi”“Nah.Nah nah nah.
