Emma

“What do you mean? You will leave your dad and me for Manhattan for what?” she questioned,

“Manhattan is only a few kilometers from here, Mum. I only want to be alone and away from the crowd. The insult is enough.”

“Which insult?”

I wondered if it was safe to tell her what I faced in Blackwood's mansion. I looked up at her narrowed face, telling it was not a good idea.

“I mean, I lost my job, my love, and everything. I need to start fresh,” I cried.

“Emma, I understand. Just tell your fat

    EmmaDay after day in Manhattan, thinking of my next move, I finally decided to prepare for my trip to London. I was excited, and at the same time, I was scared, but a bit.I packed my luggage again and kept it in one corner of my room. My room was almost empty, but just a few things I needed for the rest of my days in Manhattan were left around.The new year had already arrived, and I was fully ready for whatever life would bring. I read some books and learned a lot. I guess that's the beginning of my comeback.I wasn't even excited about the new year; all I did was call Anna, Vera, and my parents in Brooklyn. They wanted to come and visit me, but I declined. Until I succeed, I won't show myself to anyone! Except Anna, maybe.“Hi,” she said. It was as if I could see her face, that smile, and that laugh.“Hello, Anna,” I said. “Happy New Year.” “Same, Emma. I hope you are enjoying your day.”“Yep, I am.”“I want to tell you something, but I don't know if it's a good idea,” she said;

    Adrian's POV Even marrying Olivia still makes me doubt, and I don't know why, but I really wanted that marriage—for my business and reputation as a twenty-seven-year-old that I am.In the office, board members always ask me that question. “Mr. Blackwood, when are you having a son?” “When are you getting married?” “Being married earns more respect.” These are what I hear from everyone, especially the elderly ones. And in my thoughts, they are right. Even my dad was in support, so I've gotten full approval. But the thought of Emma still haunts me, even if I just wanted to forget about her.“Your coffee is ready, Sir,” the chef said as she placed the tray of coffee before me in the boardroom while it was almost time for a meeting.“It's time. Let's begin,” I said as soon as the time reached 8:00am.The meeting began, and in the end I had to leave for my office.While in my office, I placed both of my legs on my mahogany desk before my chair. On a normal day, everyone knocks and gets

    EmmaBut I hadn't checked whether she was fine, and I was judging. What if something happened and she was unable to reach me? Or if someone harmed her?I waited for about an hour to call again, and surprisingly she answered “Anna, are you okay?” I asked while I was in simple clothes with my room slippers, in a worried tone.“Emma,” she laughed. “I know what your reaction would be.”Her laughter relieved the tension that had piled up inside me; I breathed.“I know what your reaction would be, and I don't want to hear your ‘thank you’; at least we are friends.” Tears slid down my round cheek as I stood, facing the window. I moved the curtain open and watched the busy city.Anna just gave me hundreds of thousands of dollars, and she wasn't even expecting a ‘thank you’ from me, and I had judged her wrong.“How do I thank you? Anna,” I asked in a slow, gentle tone with tears in my eyes as I sniffed.“Don't start, don't, or else I may block you again,” she laughed.“Thank you,” I said, bl

Just tell your father, and if he agrees, then I'm with you in this,” she said with a gentle smile.I hadn't expected that. I smiled too. I was happy within.“Thanks, Mum.” I appreciated Soon after the cooking, we were already seated in the dining room. “Dad, I want to tell you something,” I calledMy mum raised her head to look at both of us as I sat opposite them.“I'm leaving for Manhattan to start a fresh life.”He paused. He didn't believe it.“What did you say?”“I'm leaving for Manhattan to start a fresh

    EmmaThe tears I've been avoiding by staying away from the people who hurt me almost dropped. Obviously, I still felt inferior because I have no job, nor do I have money. Or come from a powerful family like the Blackwoods.I was already in my room after coming from the Blackwoods mansion. I had already lost my strength to the insult I suffered from Adrian.Adrian insulted me again. But before I knew it, the tears dropped.The bitter stomach I've not had for a long period of time now came back. This time I couldn't call Anna, nor could I tell Vera, even though I knew she wouldn't blame me. But my dad had warned me to avoid the Blackwoods at all costs. But here I am, still respecting their order.I sobbed as the hot tears dripped down my cold cheek. I lay on my bed crying against my pillow while I gripped it tight.But then I don't have to be naive or cry over a man again. Anna's words echoed in my mind: 'Stand up!’ 'Be strong!'I flared from the bed and went to the mirror. I looked a

    Adrian POV My mind still battles between the choice I made and what I should have done otherwise.I stood by the window in my room on the second floor of the mansion with my bathrobe and a glass of whiskey with me. I still don't feel whole, but I was happy—not too happy, but at least nobody can ever doubt. I watched the quiet street from the window I was at.I would be having a fashion conference relating to work after the new year, and that too has stuck in my mind.Then I saw her come into the yard through the small gate. I wondered why she was there. I waited to see whom she came for or why. I saw her enter the mansion, and I wondered why she was there.I didn't want to confront her because I'm still considering the life we shared. But that life is gone, and she no longer has to mean anything to me.I put down my empty glass and dashed out of my room. Then I found her in the reception, where different models of my family's car are parked, with my brother, Alex.“What's she doing
