After much thought about it, Adrian’s father finally told him to give him a pen to sign it. He was always on about the development of his company and wanted to grow it once again. A chance like this was something he could not miss. His hand reached out. “Give me the pen, Adrian. Let’s get this done.”

Adrian told him to think about it again. “Dad, please think about it one more time. Your grandchildren are involved in this too.”

But the father became angry and asked him what there was to think a

I'm still disappointed because he asked his father to reconsider; *he*—as the father—is the one who should have reconsidered, torn up the contract, and done something about it. That contract could later be used legally to secure permanent custody for Serena.

  • THE BRIDE HE NEVER WANTED   Chapter 158- THE MAN BEHIND THE SYSTEM

“Do you have access to every file in my company?” Nathan was silent for a moment. “Why are you asking me that?” “Because something is wrong at Lumina.” I looked across the conference room. Employees were still gathered together. Investigators stood near the door while Emma was speaking quietly with security. The IT administrator was nowhere to be seen. Nathan’s voice became serious. “What happened?” I told him everything. The fake financial records. The maintenance worker. The missing visitor log. The eleven-minute camera blackout. Then I told him about the IT administrator disappearing during the blackout. Nathan listened without interrupting. “Serena,” he finally said, “if that man has access to your internal network and security system, you need to check his computer.” My eyes moved toward Emma. “You’re right.” “Do it now.” “I will.” I ended the call and walked straight toward Emma. “Where is the IT administrator?” Emma’s face tightened. “The police has deployed officer

  • THE BRIDE HE NEVER WANTED   Chapter 157- THE DECISION HE SHOULDN'T MAKE

Nathan sat behind his desk, staring at a financial chart that he had been reading for almost twenty minutes. His eyes moved across the numbers, but his mind was somewhere else. The hospital. Serena. And Adrian. He leaned back and closed his eyes. The image came back again. Serena sleeping peacefully against Adrian’s shoulder. Adrian sitting there as if he belonged beside her. The way he had looked at Nathan had been enough to make his blood boil. Nathan opened his eyes and pushed the chart away. “Damn it.” He stood and walked toward the window. He had spent the entire night thinking about Serena. He had told himself that giving her space was the right thing to do. He had promised not to pressure her. But what had that gotten him? Adrian was still there. Nathan clenched his jaw. “Why?” Why was Serena still allowing Adrian to stay so close to her after everything he had done? Adrian had hurt her. He had broken her trust and pushed her away when she needed him most. Yet som

  • THE BRIDE HE NEVER WANTED   Chapter 156- THE PERSON AMONG US

I looked at Emma. “Gather all employees right now. I want to see everyone, every single person.”“Is everything ok?” The investigator asked. “These evidence was planted by someone. And they got help from someone who works for me.” “Does that mean—”“Yes.” I cut in. “There's a spy among us.”Emma quickly ordered all employees to gather together inside the conference Hall. When I entered inside. I looked around the conference hall. Nearly every employee was standing or sitting in silence. The tension was so thick that nobody dared whisper.Emma stood beside me while two investigators watched from the back of the room.“Everyone needs to stay calm,” I said. “I know this situation is frightening, but I need the truth.”Nobody answered.“Someone entered Lumina yesterday using a fake maintenance identity. That person planted documents in our financial records to frame us. As you all know, my business is honestly, I have been running this business for years now. So this whole situation is

  • THE BRIDE HE NEVER WANTED   Chapter 155- A SPY AMONG US

I stared at the black USB drive inside the evidence bag. The investigator watched me closely. “Do you recognize it?” I swallowed. “I’ve seen one like that before.” “Where?” “In my office.” His eyes narrowed. “This one was found in your private desk.” “Then perhaps you can explain why it was there.” “I can’t.” Emma stepped forward. “Someone planted it.” The investigator looked at her. “That is an accusation, not an explanation.” “It’s the truth,” Emma replied. He turned back to me. “Your company is being investigated for financial fraud. Documents were found inside your financial records. Now this device has been discovered in your office.” “I didn’t put it there.” “I didn’t say you did.” “But you’re thinking about it.” He said nothing. Adrian stepped beside me. “She just arrived. Give her a moment.” The investigator looked at him. “And you are?” “Adrian Laurent.” The investigator’s expression changed slightly. “Laurent?” “Yes.” Adrian replied. “Then you understand h

  • THE BRIDE HE NEVER WANTED   Chapter 154- THE COMPANY UNDER SIEGE

I lowered Adrian’s phone after Emma’s words. “They’re discussing whether to seal Lumina’s doors,” I repeated quietly.Adrian watched my face. “What happened?”I looked at him. “Someone planted fake financial documents inside Lumina. The police are there, reporters are outside, and the government may shut the company down.”His expression hardened. “Then we need to go.”“I know.”He stepped closer. “I’m coming with you.”I hesitated. “You don’t have to.”“I know,” he said. “But I’m still coming.”I looked toward Sister Margaret’s room. “I can’t leave her.”“She’s being cared for by doctors and nurses,” Adrian said. “You’ve stayed with her all night. Right now, Lumina needs you.”He was right. I hated that he was right. “I’ll check on her first.”I pushed the door open and walked inside. Sister Margaret was awake, her eyes half-open. When she saw me, she gave me a tired smile. “Are you leaving?”“I have to.”“Your company?”I nodded. “There’s a serious problem.”She slowly moved her han

  • THE BRIDE HE NEVER WANTED   Chapter 153- THE MORNING EVERYTHING CHANGED

I was still staring at Adrian and thinking of how I can come clean to him about the merger contract he's blaming himself for when all of a sudden his phone rang. The sound broke the silence between us.Adrian reached into his pocket and pulled it out. His eyes dropped to the screen.“Dad.”He frowned. I watched him decline the call.“Why did you ignore it?” I asked.“I’ll call him later.”The phone rang again. Adrian looked annoyed.“Again?” I asked. He rejected the call a second time. Within seconds, it rang again. This time, I looked at him seriously. “Adrian, answer it. Maybe something is wrong.”He hesitated before finally accepting the call. “Dad?”His father’s voice came through immediately. “Adrian, do you have any idea what is happening at Lumina?”Adrian’s expression changed. “What are you talking about?”“Have you checked the news?”“No. Why?”“Check the internet right now!” “Dad, what happened?”“Just check it.”The call ended. Adrian stared at his phone. “What was that a

I stayed slumped against the wall for a long time, his release still sliding down my thighs. The house was quiet now. Too quiet. Later that night, I couldn’t sleep. Where is Lia?” He asked again. His voice cut through the room like something sharp. I didn’t answer. Not because I didn’t want to, but because I didn’t know where to start. He swung his legs off the bed and stood up, running a hand through his hair. The calm from last night was gone. What stood in
