“Mom… are you saying the Blackwood family wants me to become their daughter-in-law?”

Sophia’s voice trembled with excitement as she stared at the sealed envelope lying on the coffee table.

The silence that had filled the living room after Richard Blackwood’s departure was finally broken.

Vivian picked up the elegant cream-colored envelope with careful hands, as though it contained a priceless treasure. She slowly broke the wax seal and unfolded the neatly typed letter inside.

Her eyes raced across the page.

With every line she read, the smile on her face grew wider.

She couldn’t believe it.

When she reached the end, she let out a delighted laugh.

“It’s true,” she whispered.

Sophia rushed to her mother’s side.

“What does it say? Tell me!”

Vivian looked at her daughter with sparkling eyes.

“The Blackwood family has formally asked for a bride from the Hayes family to fulfill the marriage agreement your late father made years ago.”

Sophia clasped both hands over her mouth.

Her heart pounded wildly.

“The Blackwoods…” she breathed.

“They’re one of the richest families in the country.”

Vivian nodded proudly.

“They are.”

Sophia squealed with excitement before throwing herself into her mother’s arms.

“I can’t believe this!”

Vivian hugged her tightly.

“My daughter is finally getting the life she deserves.”

They both laughed, unable to contain their joy.

Standing quietly near the doorway with an empty tea tray in her hands, Emma watched them without saying a word.

She knew the conversation had nothing to do with her.

She wasn’t family anymore.

Not in Vivian’s eyes.

She was simply the girl who cleaned the floors and cooked the meals.

Vivian finally noticed her.

“What are you still doing here?”

Emma lowered her gaze.

“I came to collect the cups.”

“Then stop standing there and do your job.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

Emma carefully gathered the teacups and turned toward the kitchen.

Just as she reached the doorway, Sophia’s cheerful voice stopped her.

“Oh, Emma!”

She turned around.

“Yes?”

Sophia grinned from ear to ear.

“Did you hear the good news?”

Emma nodded politely.

“I heard there was a marriage proposal.”

“There was,” Sophia replied proudly, lifting her chin. “And it’s for me.”

Emma offered a small smile.

“Congratulations.”

Sophia laughed.

“I know you’re jealous.”

Emma blinked.

“I’m not.”

“Oh, please.” Sophia smirked. “Every girl dreams of marrying into the Blackwood family. You just won’t admit it.”

Emma remained silent.

There was no point arguing.

Sophia walked toward the full-length mirror in the living room, admiring her reflection.

“I’ll finally have the life I’ve always wanted.”

She spun gracefully in her designer dress.

“I’ll be attending charity galas… wearing custom-made gowns… traveling around the world…”

She smiled dreamily.

“And everyone will call me Mrs. Blackwood.”

Vivian beamed with pride.

“They’ll envy you.”

“They already do,” Sophia replied confidently.

The two women burst into laughter.

Emma quietly left the room.

In the kitchen, she rinsed the teacups beneath warm running water.

Their laughter still echoed through the house.

She wasn’t jealous.

She simply wondered…

What kind of man inspired such excitement?

She had never met anyone from the Blackwood family before today.

As far as she knew, he was simply the grandson of a wealthy businessman.

Nothing more.

She finished washing the last cup before returning to her chores.

Upstairs, Sophia had already emptied half her wardrobe onto the bed.

“Mom!” she called excitedly.

“Do you think I should order new dresses?”

Vivian laughed.

“Of course. You’ll need an entirely new wardrobe.”

“And jewelry?”

“As much as you want.”

Sophia clapped happily.

“This is truly a dream come true.”

She sat on the edge of the bed, smiling to herself.

Soon…

She would become the wife of the country’s most eligible bachelor.

Little did she know…

“Sir… we’ve reviewed the CCTV footage.” Damien looked up sharply. The head of security stood outside the emergency room, breathing heavily after rushing to the hospital. “What did you find?” Damien asked. The guard swallowed. “The SUV didn’t lose control.” Richard Blackwood frowned. “What are you saying?” The guard handed a tablet to Damien. “We reviewed every camera around the estate.” “The driver deliberately turned the vehicle toward you, Chairman.” Silence fell over the hallway. Richard’s face lost its color. Damien replayed the footage. The black SUV had a clear path to leave through the front gate. Instead… It swerved sharply toward the garden. Toward Richard. Emma had seen it just in time. Without thinking about her own safety, she had pushed Richard away. The SUV struck her instead. Damien’s grip tightened around the tablet. His knuckles turned white. “So it wasn’t an accident,” he said coldly. “No, sir.” “We’ve already infor

“Mrs. Blackwood, don’t go outside!” Emma stopped halfway down the staircase. She turned to the maid. “The young woman is still waiting?” The maid nodded nervously. “Yes, Mrs. Blackwood. Security won’t let her in, but she refuses to leave.” Emma frowned. “I’ll speak to her.” Before she could take another step, Damien’s deep voice echoed through the hall. “No.” Emma turned. He had just walked out of his study, his expression calm as always. “You don’t know who she is,” he continued. “It isn’t safe.” Emma looked at him in surprise. “I’ll only be gone for a minute.” Damien walked toward her. “If someone has business with the Blackwood family, security will handle it.” Emma hesitated before nodding. “Alright.” Damien looked at the head of security. “Find out who she is.” “Yes, sir.” The guard hurried outside. A few minutes later, he returned. “Sir, the woman left.” “Did she give a name?” “No.” Damien’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Check the security cameras and fi

  • THE BRIDE MY STEPSISTER GAVE AWAY   CHAPTER 15: FRONT PAGE WIFE

“Mrs. Blackwood… you’re on the front page of every business newspaper in the country.” The morning sun poured into Emma’s bedroom as she slowly opened her eyes. For the first time since moving into Blackwood Mansion, she had slept peacefully. Last night’s charity gala still lingered in her mind. The elegant ballroom. The flashing cameras. The whispers. And Damien… She smiled faintly as she remembered the way he had stood by her side throughout the evening. A gentle knock interrupted her thoughts. “Mrs. Blackwood?” Margaret called from outside. “I’m awake.” Margaret entered carrying a breakfast tray and several newspapers. “Good morning.” Emma smiled. “Good morning, Margaret.” As Margaret placed the tray on the table, one newspaper slipped onto the floor. Emma bent to pick it up. The moment she saw the front page, her eyes widened. There was a full-page photograph of her and Damien dancing together. The headline read: “THE ICE KING MELTS? DAMIE

The ballroom buzzed with conversation as the orchestra played softly in the background. Emma stood beside Damien, trying not to let the attention around them overwhelm her. Business executives, investors, politicians, and media personalities filled the luxurious hall. Almost everyone seemed to know Damien. “Mr. Blackwood.” A middle-aged businessman approached with a smile. “It’s an honor to finally meet your wife.” Damien nodded politely. “This is Emma.” The man extended his hand. “Mrs. Blackwood, congratulations.” Emma shook his hand with a warm smile. “Thank you.” As the evening continued, Damien introduced Emma to several business partners. She listened more than she spoke. Whenever someone addressed her, she answered politely and confidently. Her calm manners gradually impressed the guests. Not everyone was pleased. Across the room, Vanessa Blackwood watched with narrowed eyes. “I don’t understand,” she muttered to Victor. “She’s supposed to embarrass the fami

“Mr. Blackwood, may I have the honor of introducing myself to your beautiful wife?” The ballroom of the Grand Imperial Hotel glittered beneath enormous crystal chandeliers. It was the annual Blackwood Foundation Charity Gala, attended by the country’s wealthiest business leaders, celebrities, and influential families. Emma stood beside Damien, feeling slightly overwhelmed. She had never imagined she would one day attend an event like this. “You don’t have to look so nervous,” Damien said quietly. Emma glanced at him. “I’m trying not to embarrass you.” “You won’t.” His answer was simple. But somehow, it eased her anxiety. A photographer approached them. “Mr. and Mrs. Blackwood, over here, please.” Damien instinctively placed a hand at the small of Emma’s back, guiding her toward the cameras. Flash! Flash! Flash! The photographers smiled. “Perfect.” “You two look wonderful together.” Emma lowered her eyes shyly. As they entered the ballroom, w

  • THE BRIDE MY STEPSISTER GAVE AWAY   CHAPTER 12: DINNER WITH THE BLACKWOOD

“A woman with no status has no right to bear the Blackwood name.” The words shattered the silence the moment Emma stepped into the grand dining hall. Every eye turned toward her. Her feet froze. The Blackwood family’s dining room was even more magnificent than the rest of the mansion. A long mahogany table stretched across the room beneath glittering crystal chandeliers. More than a dozen members of the Blackwood family were already seated, each dressed in expensive designer clothes. Emma suddenly felt very small. Richard Blackwood looked around the room. “I invited you all here because it’s time you officially meet Damien’s wife.” No one applauded. No one smiled. Instead, they studied Emma from head to toe as if she were an object on display. A middle-aged woman wearing a diamond necklace placed her wine glass on the table. “So…” “This is the woman Damien married?” Her tone dripped with disappointment. Richard’s expression hardened. “Yes.” The woman laughed softly.
