LOGINKYLA’S POV
"The marriage will be held in four days, on Vivica's eighteenth birthday!" "My Luna, are you serious?" Vivica squealed. "Yes, my dear. At the rate you two are going, I know I'll be a grandmother soon, so why wait and risk you getting pregnant out of wedlock?" Cheers erupted and Vivica glowed like a star while Tormund grinned like a king. "I can't wait for you to become Mrs. Moonveil," Tormund purred as he kissed her knuckles. The Alpha called for more wine. I hurried forward with the decanter, but my eyes were focused on Tormund. My gaze slid downward, catching what no one else seemed to notice. His hand was hidden under the table, between Vivica's thighs. His fingers moved, and Vivica's blush deepened. The scent hit me, and I could tell my father and the Alpha smelt it too, but they didn't mention it. I swallowed hard. My hand trembled, and the wine spilled across the Alpha's lap. "What the hell!" the Alpha growled. "You clumsy girl!" The room went deathly silent. "You stupid girl!" Claudia's voice shattered the silence. She leapt from her seat and struck me hard across the face, then she yanked the decanter from my grip. "Why can't you do anything right?" "You ugly bitch! You've ruined my engagement dinner!" Vivica cried. "This is a Danny Wolfe original," the Luna said. "This is coming out of your wages." "But..." I began to protest. "You dare back answer your Luna?" Tormund roared. "I'm sorry." I lowered my head. "Out of my sight, you useless burnt face monster!" Claudia barked as she slapped me again. My cheek burned, but the ache in my chest was worse. I lifted my eyes just once, hoping, begging for my father's gaze. For him to look at me with the love he used to have. But he didn't. I wondered why, since the dinner began, my father had not looked at me. "Father?" I whispered. "Go clean the gutters!" he barked, still cutting into his steak. "You're not needed here anymore." I bowed my head. "Yes, Father." "Apologize to the Alpha and Luna and then get out of our sight," Claudia hissed. "Please forgive me, Alpha. Luna." I bowed, my pride bleeding out of me like water from a cracked cup. With tears in my eyes, I fled from the scene. ****** The next morning, my wolf, Gemma, woke me before dawn. ‘Wake up, Kyla.’ Her sweet voice rang inside my head. My wolf had always been with me since I was thirteen, but Gemma rarely spoke. And ever since the fire, she had never shown herself around people. She didn't trust anyone... not a soul. Only me and Wynona. ‘What is it, Gemma?’ ‘I heard suspicious footsteps... followed by a window opening.’ I groaned and rubbed my eyes. I checked the time on my clock. It was 2 a.m., just three days before Vivica's eighteenth birthday and wedding of the century. ‘It's not even light out. I'm going back to sleep.’ But Gemma forced me upright, jerking my body until I had no choice but to move with her. ‘We are going downstairs to see what this is about.’ "Ahh," I scoffed aloud. I tiptoed down the stairs, my bed slippers dragging over the wooden floor as I stifled a yawn with my palm. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary until I saw the curtain to the living room window fluttering. It was my job to close up at night, and I was positive I had closed this window before going upstairs to bed. "What the hell?" I mumbled as I went to close the window. My eyes darted to the tree line just in time to see Vivica in her nightgown running into the woods. ‘See, Gemma? It's only Vivica sneaking out to go meet with her fiancé again,’ I hissed bitterly. Vivica had been sneaking out every night for the last week after she went to that party across town at another pack. ‘Hmm,’ my wolf hummed. ‘Something still feels off to me.’ ‘Gemma, please forgive me. But I'm too tired to be having this conversation now. Can we talk about this tomorrow?’ ‘Fine,’ she growled. I dragged myself back upstairs, collapsed into bed, and fell asleep. ****** Around 8 a.m., the battle horns were being blown. I shot from my sleep only to see that my house was in chaos. "What's happening?" I asked the first servant I saw when I opened my room door. "Didn't you hear? The Alpha's son is hurt." "Hurt?" I gulped. Then I ran downstairs to see my stepmother sitting on my father's lap, crying. "Father," I bowed, my voice trembling. "What happened to Tormund? And where is Vivica?" His face darkened, and Claudia began to snarl. "Get away from us, you ugly bitch. This is your fault. This is all your fault." I staggered back. "What did I do?" "You're the reason she's gone! You threatened her! Told her she wasn't Albert's real daughter. You pushed her to this. She couldn't take it anymore, so she said she was going to kill herself!" Claudia's finger stabbed the air at me. "No! I never—" "She left a suicide note," my father’s voice was steel. "Now just leave. I don't want to see your face right now." I couldn't believe what I was hearing. This was madness. The servants began to whisper about me. Vivica's wedding to the future Alpha was supposed to be the event of the decade. Everyone was looking forward to it. Soon there was a loud bang, and the front door was kicked off the hinges as Alpha Morgan stormed in. "WHERE IS SHE? Where is that filthy daughter of yours?" I gulped as I stood planted to the floor. "Alpha! Please... calm down," my father said. He pushed his wife off his lap and walked in front of me protectively. The Alpha's wicked gaze landed on me. "I am going to kill you and then let my wolf eat you down to the bone." I gulped. "What did I do to deserve this, Alpha?" "What did you do? What did you do?" The Alpha chuckled darkly. Just then, the Luna stumbled inside, pale and broken. Her knees buckled, but Alpha Morgan caught her before she could fall to the floor. "Luna Tabitha! What happened?" my father demanded. "It's... Tormund." Her lips quivered. Alpha Morgan hugged her tightly. "What happened to the future Alpha?" Claudia asked.KYLA'S POVI was breathing so heavily, and my body was getting so hot from his touches that I felt like I was going to melt. There were sparks burning me everywhere his skin touched mine. It was the same way it felt with Lowell. I wondered if it was because of the pregnancy why I kept feeling this way with every man I've met lately.I didn't see when he snatched a condom from the nightstand, but I heard the sharp sound of him ripping the foil open with his teeth. Within seconds, I heard him sliding it onto his length.I held my breath, gripping the silk sheets until my knuckles turned white, anticipating the weight of him."Brace yourself, Little Wolf," he said. He shoved forward, and I felt the massive head of him piercing my entrance. I reached my hand under me, my fingers grazing his shaft as it passed through my palm and deep inside me. It was like a freight train running through a narrow tunnel. It stretched me so wide it almost hurt, but the burn was glorious. I didn't stop him;
KYLA'S POVI stared up at him, my breath coming in short, shallow gasps that seemed to echo in the silence of the hotel room. My hand was shaking as I slowly reached out, my fingers hovering just inches away from the heavy, intimidating bulge in his trousers. I had never felt this much desire for anyone in my entire life; it was terrifying and wonderful and electric all at the same time."Go on," he urged, his voice like molten chocolate, smooth and rich and heavy with promise. "Touch me."Like a moth to a flame, I was helpless against the pull this handsome and mysterious stranger had over me. I felt like I was drowning in the heat coming off his body.The way Atlas's eyes lingered on me made my skin flush and my core ache with a dull, throbbing need I had never known before. I didn't care that we had just met an hour ago. I didn't care that my world had already imploded or that I was being hunted by my past. And I most certainly didn't care that I was linked to the Alpha of the pac
KYLA'S POV"His name is Lowell," I answered, and the second the name left my lips, Atlas began to cough furiously like he had just swallowed a fly. I jumped slightly, my heart skipping a beat. "Goddess, are you alright?" I asked, my voice filled with worry."Yes. Yes, I'm fine," he finally said, coming up for air as his face returned to its normal color. He cleared his throat and looked at me with an unreadable expression. "Lowell. That is a very strong name.""Yeah, I guess it is," I shrugged, looking down at my lap and thinking about the man in the woods who had saved me. "So, does this Lowell know that you like him?" Atlas asked, his voice dropping back into that smooth, low rumble.I felt my cheeks get even hotter under my scarf. "I didn't say that I like him, Atlas. I just like how I feel when I'm around him. It's different." I shifted on the silk sheets, feeling a bit frustrated that we were talking about other people. "Look, I came here to spend a passionate evening with you,
KYLA'S POVWe were still in the taxi, heading to the vampire hotel as the locals called it, and my nerves were shot. Werewolves normally steered clear of that place, even though they had a strict no-violence policy that was enforced by some pretty scary ancient vampires, but still, the packs and even the rogues were known to keep away from that area.Why would Atlas want to go there? It just dawned on me as I watched the streetlights flicker past that I didn't actually know his rank. Was he an omega like me, a beta, or even an Alpha? He certainly moved like an Alpha, with that heavy, commanding presence that made me feel so small, but for some reason, my wolf couldn't tell.A part of me had been tempted to ask him a million questions, but then I realized that none of it really mattered. We were simply going to spend an evening together and never see each other again. This was a clean break, a way to wash Tormund out of my hair and my heart for good.The taxi stopped in front of the ee
LOWELL'S POV"Your scarf," I said, tipping my chin toward the silk fabric. "Why are you hiding such a pretty face behind it?"She laughed, a nervous but pretty sound. "Maybe I'm a wanted assassin and I have to hide my face so I won't get caught by the law."I threw my head back and laughed loudly. "You're funny. I really like that about you.""Thanks," she said. "So, why did you choose this place today? It doesn't exactly seem like your scene either.""The same reason you did, I think," I said. "It's not exactly up to my usual standards, but I like the fact that people here are actually having fun. They're minding their own business instead of sitting around getting drunk and gossiping about their neighbors. It feels more real."The bartender returned with her water. I watched as she carefully shifted the scarf just enough to show her mouth, her lips were full and pink and looked so soft. She put the cup to her lips and drank, and I found myself staring at the way her throat moved whe
LOWELL'S POV"She's attractive, isn't she?" Sofia asked me quietly."Quite attractive," I admitted. My eyes raked over her. That body-con dress was hugging every single curve of her body in a way that made my mouth go dry. She looked incredible, even with the mystery of the scarf over her face. I was dying to know what she truly looked like. I bet she looked like an angel. "She will recognize your voice when you speak, you know that," Sofia warned. "She's smart.""Not if I borrow my beast's voice," I replied.Sofia just looked at me and shook her head, clearly thinking I was playing a very dangerous game."Sofia," Kyla said as she finally reached us. Her voice was like music even in this loud bar. "Are you okay? You looked a little uncomfortable from where I was sitting. Is this man bothering you?"I took a long sip of my drink, looking at her over the rim of my glass, and grinned."No, Kyla. This is just an old friend from... well, from back when I was a kid," Sofia half-lied, thoug
