Bree stood from the table abruptly, clearing it of the plates they'd used to eat as she did.
Her mind was caught in the offer he'd just made her.
He's a stranger yes, but she been the one to open up to him and now he was offering her a way to the revenge she deserved.
She could have easily agreed to his terms and conditions but she needed time to think this through and decide it's what she wanted.
If she was doing this, it means she'd have to get used to him whose name she still didn't know and she'd also have to get used to his potty mouth and searing bluntness.
It didn't help that she'll also have to learn enough control to keep her hands to herself and her thoughts out of the drain around him.
He'd been very clear and precise on the 'no strings attached' point and if she was going to keep to that, she'd have to not get involved with him at all.
Well fuckedy fuck-ery', isn't that just peachy.
"You asked how you got here...."
She heard from behind her, just as she started for the kitchen.
His deep voice stopped in her tracks, velvety and sweet.
She turned to look at him, not sure what she was expecting to see.
He already had his eyes on her, the expression in their deep blueness, too deep for her to decipher.
They looked at her like they could strip her down to nothing and have a stare deep into her soul and she wasn't sure that was a feeling she liked.
She waited for him to continue, praying she didn't do something stupid last night.
"You begged me to take you with me to wherever I was going....."
There was a pause, a deafening silence threatening to engulf her before he continued.
"You didn't want to have to see either of them again. And hey, if you stay till the end, you get two million dollars from me"
That info had been so out of nowhere but she could take a close guess at why he'd told her that.
How cold of his royal ass-ness to throw her pathetic situation in her face just to get her doing his bidding and playing by his pipe.
And it was worse that she was falling for it because it was the only way out of her mess.
Maybe he'd seen the doubt and questions in her eyes or the uncertain quiver of her lips that always gave her away.
Either way, he'd seen it somehow and he'd played his hook card with that reminder.
If only he knew that he didn't have to.
He had her already at the point where he'd mentioned revenge. Because if there's any credit to her name, it'd be that she always gives back in twice the measure she receives.
And yeah, she keeps her words too.
She turned away from him, continuing back to the kitchen without saying anything in response to him, wondering if this in its entirety was the right thing to do.
He got on her nerves and probably thought of her as his temporal amusement but he was also offering her a way out of her mess that was Cole.
And an A-game revenge plan that only he knew the details of.
If only there was another way out.
Time passed and the day went in a blur.
She called in sick at work because there was no way in hell she was going in to the office looking like she barely survived a zombie apocalypse.
She needed to get herself together before she drags her ass into the gossip hot spot that's her office.
She had no intention of letting Cole and his cheating episodes ruin anything for her or put her life on a pause.
Her phone rang about the time she was done in the room she'd slept in, dressing it and getting her stuffs.
The caller ID display showed it was Nemy, the brunette who occupies the cubicle next to hers at the office.
The lively brunette was the only one she was remotely close with in all of her colleagues.
She had the energy of a fired bullet and cared about everyone, maybe a little too much.
She slid a finger across her screen to accept the call.
"Hey girl," Her chirpy voice carried from the other end of the line.
"Heard from Tracy, the secretary, that you ain't coming in to the home base today, that true?"
The vibe in her voice as she asked the question made her smile.
She was yet to understand why she called their office "home base" though.
And of course, Tracey and her loud mouth would let everyone at the office know of her absence, with a little or more twist to the info, before anyone actually missed her.
She was tempted to ask exactly what it was that Tracey had said but she realized she didn't give two piece of flying shit.
If only there was someone else to call for that.
"Yeah. Maybe tommorow."
"You don't have to worry, girl, I'm holding the storm here, not that you asked, of course."
There was that laugh that was particularly Nemy's.
At least somethings didn't change yet, this was like some anchor that she needed at the moment.
Something to assure her that it'd get better and everything will be back to normal, only better.
"Everything okay with you though?"
That concern was familiar too.
"I'm fine, Nems. I'll tell you all of it when I'm back."
"Woah, is Brianna Mathews actually offering to talk to me about something serious? I'm so holding you to that Bree."
For the first time since everything, she actually laughed.
That hadn't come out the way she'd intended for it to but she wasn't taking it back.
It felt good having someone to talk to, she was just realizing that now.
"Yes I did."
"I just hope you are okay, babe. Call me if you need me."
She said in a serious tone.
"Hopefully I'll hear my phone ring in all the chaos brewing here and come to your rescue. Come back soon."
She finished in her usual Nemy tone, before the line went dead.
Without pausing to think about it, Bree took her stuffs and left the room.
She needed out, needed fresh air that didn't reek of insulting riches and an asshole owner or betrayal.
He was no where in sight when she reappeared downstairs and she was thankful to God for the small mercy.
She'll do well without him or his attitude right now.
Without pausing or waiting a heart beat, she high tailed it out the door and out the gates of his mansion which, thankfully, was without the bodyguards that guarded his kind of people and house in the movies she's watched.
She'll come back later when she had that fresh air and have decided what she wanted to do.
For now, she was out of here.
It's been so long since the last time Ryder had been in this house, before now. He'd been just a boy the last time he'd stood in this hallway, staring at the pictures that lined it's length. The years he'd spent growing up here were the memories he was trying to let go of, he hated them most.Just like he hated Paul. And he'd made sure the man knew how much. His eyes ran down the pictures in their gold frame that cost more than an averagely priced car. He'd left with a vow to never come back here but yet, here he was, breaking that vow because fucking Paul had decided to have one more up on him even in death by willing all his assets to him - the estranged son.Not that he needed any of it, he was a fucking boss of his own now, but not dealing with this will only let it accumulate tax and come ass biting in the future. It grated his nerves more, knowing that he should have been on a vacation at some exotic location of his choic
Bree's morning wasn't anything that she'd thought It would be.No, if anything, it had only gotten worse from the moment she'd stepped out of 'Mr saving stranger's gate this morning. The thought of sticking to his plan and keeping her end of their bargain had bugged her all morning till it was the only thing in her head, almost suffocating her.Of course, she'd needed an out, a breath of air that didn't remind her of her predicament. And that had been why she'd left his mansion of a house in the first place.Damn, the man had the money and he knew how to spend it too.It didn't take rocket science to realise the place she'd been brought to last night was one of the most affluent neighborhoods in this side of town, once she'd stepped outside his gates. You know, the type where everything is just too luxurious and over priced and everyone is expected to own at the least a ride or two.It had sucked like soggy pasta having to ferry hersel
Ryder woke with a throbbing head and eyes that hurt too much to keep open, to the ringing of his phone. He reached blindly for the annoying device, sliding his fingers across the across the screen to accept the call and shut it the fuck up."Ryder."He barked into the phone, his tone commanding and demanding immediate response."Hi, this is Roger Daniel, your father's lawyer. Didn't hear back from you concerning his will so I'm calling to check up with you."Ryder would have rather he didn't call and not so early too.Who the fuck calls someone this early in the morning."My house, 12pm." he said, his voice more threatening than informing. There were mumbles of disagreement that he didn't give a fuck about from the other end of the line just as he ended the call.He dumped the phone on his nightstand trying not to give in to the temptation of calling back at his office back at New York. He'd promised his team he'd take this
"Don't look at me like that, little one." Ryder said, as he stepped away from Bree. For a second there, he'd come as close as fuck to breaking the boundaries they'd unofficially set and take her against his door. She'd wanted it too, he'd seen the lust burn in her eyes, but he'd pulled back last minute. The timing was wrong. He plan to take her every which way she can offer, it was in the cards he'd offered, but not now, not this way. When he do take her, he wanted her to need not want him and he wanted that not so subtle look of guilt that had clouded her eyes gone. And when he gets buried so deep inside her, he wanted to see only raw desire for him taking her to a small rapture, nothing else."Like what?" her small, questioning voice queried, piercing through the fog of his thoughts."Like making you look at me like this is punishing." He deadpa
The meeting with the lawyer took more time than Ryder had given it credit for.Apparently, Paul had been a better business man than he'd been a father. He had a long list of successful business exploits and investments, all of which Ryder is supposed to inherit now.If things had been different, it might have made him happy to accept this, but now, it only left a void inside him that only keeps widening and getting darker, eating him up from the insides. This felt like a payoff for the nightmares he'd endured at hands of these men.And a payoff is not what he needed, he wanted his revenge for the nights he cried himself to sleep, begging for death because he hated himself. It had taken a lot of therapy and compartmentalizing to deal with the shit they'd dunked him in, he wasn't taking this as a plea. No, he was taking it out of spite, resolved to burn down all that his old man had suffered for, like a raging inferno. He'd zoned o
Oh God!Bree has always known of her attraction to her host, from that still hazy first night at the bar to the morning after when she'd walked into his kitchen to find him shirtless and on his way to burning down the damn room in an attempt to cook. But that electrifying bolt of desire that had shot through her at the brief press of his supple lips against hers, that had been unexpected. And she wasn't sure she liked it, no she didn't.She hadn't seen that one coming. He shouldn't have kissed her for God's sake. She'd caught onto his game at some point after she'd interrupted their meeting, figured he'd been trying to give the lawyer Something to talk about when he leaves. You know, get the word spread across town faster, of their little involvement, with only little effort, and they'd been doing fine without the kiss. She's fickle and confused enough at the moment to add a sizzling sexual desire. And her body wasn't listening to the
Bree's had her fair share of kisses, at least she believes she has, ranging from her first with Greg, her highschool crush later turned boyfriend in her junior year of high school, to the last and that had been with Cole and definitely before her knowledge of his cheating episodes. But none of them prepared her for the feeling of Ryder's lips on hers, his tongue in her mouth, doing madly sensual things to her and annihilating her sense of reasoning with it.Boy, could the man kiss! And he did it with the confidence of a man who knew his own virility and was proud of it and its achievements.God, what did she sign herself up for?Because if it involves kisses like this one, then she'd just gone and damned herself. She'd known this could happen, he hadn't promised celibacy in his bargain, but she didn't expect it to happen this soon or make her feel this way either. She wanted him closer, to feel his hard body against hers, have h
"Hey girl, it's lunch break and I'm going out, you coming?"Bree turned from her screen to the direction Nemy's voice had come from. It's been a couple days since she's been back at the office, thanks to that angel at her door who'd kept her promise of holding the storm here and had pulled every excuse in the book for her to keep her spot open.Bree owed her one for that. For someone who's always been about her own company, she's been enjoying being closer friends with Nemy.It felt nice having someone to talk to in this crazy bat shit period of her life."Snap out of it and decide already." Nemy chided,"My monsters are growling already."The comical look on her face as she pointed at her stomach made Bree laugh."I'll pass on this one, I still got a lot to finish. Go on and feed the monster Inc you carry around."Nemy let out a laugh in that pitch that is unmistakably and particularly hers."Grab yo
