CHAPTER SIX

Bree's morning wasn't anything that she'd thought It would be.

No, if anything, it had only gotten worse from the moment she'd stepped out of 'Mr saving stranger's gate this morning.

The thought of sticking to his plan and keeping her end of their bargain had bugged her all morning till it was the only thing in her head, almost suffocating her.

Of course, she'd needed an out, a breath of air that didn't remind her of her predicament.

And that had been why she'd left his mansion of a house in the first place.

Damn, the man had the money and he knew how to spend it too.

It didn't take rocket science to realise the place she'd been brought to last night was one of the most affluent neighborhoods in this side of town, once she'd stepped outside his gates.

You know, the type where everything is just too luxurious and over priced and everyone is expected to own at the least a ride or two.

It had sucked like soggy pasta having to ferry herself around on her own legs and it was worse that she didn't have any of those fancy taxi ordering apps on her phone, but it didn't stop her from leaving.

Anything for a change of scenery, one that didn't hold monied mansions and gorgeous men.

It was hell, walking under the increasing temperature outside while trying not to look like she was in some asylum escape marathon, if that's a thing, but she'd rather that than staying behind.

It was ages later before she found an average looking restaurant with a menu she could afford.

Her legs ached like scalded bitches even as she settled into one of the seats in the room, waiting to be attended to.

The air seeping from the air conditioner in the room was a welcomed change as it settled around her, wrapping it's cold fingers around her hot body.

A waiter finally came around, a teenage brunette with a charming smile, and she ordered fries and burger with a cold can of soda.

She needed the energy boost if she was going to make it back to where she'd come from or back to her home that's been defiled by Cole, the dick and Bella, the bimbo.

The first downhill strike came after she'd finished her meal and went to pay for her order.

She'd given the teen looking girl that waited her table her card and waited to be cleared so she could be on her way outbut to her horror, her card decline.

Oh fuck!

It was surprising that it chose this moment of all to start with the decline.

It's never done that before, for Pete's sake!

"What's wrong with it?"

She asked in a small, unsure voice, trying not to draw any more attention to them.

The beeping of the machine was already doing a fine job of that.

"Sorry ma'm, seems you either don't have enough money in this account to cover your bill or your card have been blocked. Want to pay in cash or try another card?"

Wait, what!?

That was funny and in no way possible because she has enough money in her account to cover her bill a thousand times, she was sure of that.

This made no sense but again, she was more averse to attracting more staring eyes at the moment so she just used the last notes in her purse to pay.

Now, she was officially penniless.

Well, that only means she'd have to go to the bank because this must be a big misunderstanding and something was just wrong with her card.

Right?

The real shit did hit the fan when she went to her bank though.

The unsmiling blonde she'd met had checked and told her with a straight face that a signatory to the account had cleared it of every single dollar earlier this morning.

Fucking Cole!

He was the only signatory to her account but he wouldn't dare do this to her after everything, would he?

In a shaky voice that betrayed her fear and reeling emotions,  she'd asked the lady for the identification of the monster that has made away with all her life worth.

There had been a couple calls she didn't really pay attention to and a form to sign and then a footage that was probably just sent over by the security team was played for her.

And there he was, the devil's incarnate, filling forms and signing documents that gave him access to all her money.

Her hard earned money, her sweat and blood, he'd taken every dime and there was nothing she could do about it because she made the mistake by giving her her trust and her heart.

She was mad at him, wanted to lay his head open with something so heavy he might have to remain in coma for the rest of his life with his nextdoor bimbo, but she was more mad at herself.

How the fuck did she not see through this asshole and his deceit, how had she ever thought that she had a future with a scum like Cole.

He was a living devil and she'd let herself get a taste of his hell.

She was stuck with no where to go and no money to her name and all she could do was crash to her knees and bawl her eyes out.

Her only option was the stranger who had picked her up yesterday after her encounter with the devil and his mistress and offered to help her get her revenge.

She hadn't thought she'd needed one when he'd offered, even after she'd agreed to his scheme, but right now the only thing she could think of was bringing Cole to his knees.

With no money in her pocket and none to her name, she had to go back to where she'd left from this morning, and the same way she had.

So much for getting that breath of fresh air.

She could have done without all of this.

It took everything in her to get back to his house, surprised he hadn't locked her out for leaving without telling him.

It'd be a fucking miracle if his offer still stood with the way she'd acted through this morning.

But as things were for her now, she'd fall at his feet and grovel before she give up.

She was ready to, if not for anything for the money he'd promised and yeah, she really wants that revenge now.

She opened the door to broken glass pieces and her sleeping 'host'.

The air in the room had a lingering smell of alcohol so it was easy to try piecing together what had happened in her absence.

She went closer to where he sat, sleeping, her eyes going over him and really seeing him for the first time.

He looked like an alpha male character out of her novels, handsome to a fault with just the right amount of rough edges to balance it out.

His raven black hair spelt sexy in their tousled state and his lips were inviting in their fullness.

Funny, because he wasn't even her type of man.

She doesn't ever go for the 'too everything' men and this one right here seemed to be at the top of that list.

Too rich, too blunt, too arrogant, too perfectly handsome.....

Especially that last part.

Even with the lines marring the perfection of that beautiful face, he was still easily the most handsome man she's seen.

The lines left promises of darker stories untold, maybe he does have his own demons.

Everybody has one these days, don't they?
