Layla stood frozen, Caleb’s words echoing in her head.

‘Milton has no family. None at all…’

She turned her head slowly towards Milton. He was standing in the lobby, hands behind him, looking calm… too calm. His eyes had that harmless, almost soft look he always carried, but now it only made Layla’s skin prickle.

Caleb moved a little closer to her and said quietly, “You don't run a proper scrutiny on your staff before hiring?”

Layla looked away without a response.
