Liora’s POV

It was all going according to plan.

Now that Elara had been isolated, we needed to act fast. The door to my room was pushed open, and Nika looked worried.

“We have a problem.”

I dropped my book. “Spill.”

“I overheard Kael and Jake. They’re close to solving the mystery around Elara’s dad. They already found out he’s fake,” Nika reported.

“Hmmm. I knew they would. It was just a matter of time.”

“So what do we do now?”

“It’s time to make use of the best of the best.”

“Who is that?”

“Us, silly.”

Nika mouthed an “oh,” and I smiled. This was going to be an entertaining journey.

Ever since my trial, the attack on my dad, and Kael actively choosing that bottom-barrel slave over me, I had decided to sit back and give myself a show.

I brought Nika the prophecy I had seen in the royal archives about a beast born from fire who was destined to be the next Luna. Nika looked into it, and after getting a few hair samples from Elara, we confirmed it — she was the new queen meant to stand b

  • THE COLD WOLF'S MATE    CHAPTER FORTY-THREE

Elara’s POVThe cold night air stung my face as the man slammed the car door shut and strode toward the shadow in the alley. My heart was still thrumming from the near-collision, my grip white-knuckled on the seatbelt. He moved like he had done this a hundred times—fast, precise, predatory. I strained to hear over the pounding in my ears, but the world beyond the windshield seemed muted, like a storm brewing just out of sight. The shadowy figure stepped forward—tall and broad-shouldered, moving with an unsettling confidence.I pressed a palm against the window, half ready to scream for him to get back in the car, half desperate to know what was about to happen. The two men faced each other in the glow of a flickering streetlamp.“You’re making a mistake,” the stranger said, his voice so deep it almost vibrated in my bones. The man who had dragged me out of the hospital tilted his head slightly, like he was studying prey. “She’s not going back with you.”“She’s not yours to take.”They

  • THE COLD WOLF'S MATE    CHAPTER FORTY-TWO

Elara’s POVMy breath came in ragged gasps as the man half-dragged, half-supported me through the narrow hallways of the hospital. The dark, oppressive silence of the night seemed to press in on me from all sides, making the quiet footsteps echo louder with every passing second.“Who the heck are you?” I asked, my mind still foggy from the drugs, but the panic was starting to rise in my chest. The man’s grip was strong, his movements calculated—like someone used to being in control of a situation.“Not important,” he said, his voice clipped, cutting off any further questions. His steps were steady, as if he didn’t fear being caught. As if he was always one step ahead of the game.I was being pulled along with no idea where I was going, but I couldn’t afford to hesitate—not now. I didn’t know what was going on or who was chasing me, but I did know that something was very wrong. They had drugged me, taken me, and now—now someone else was trying to make sure I didn’t get caught. The man

  • THE COLD WOLF'S MATE    CHAPTER FORTY-ONE

Elara’s POVThe silence between us stretched like a tight thread, ready to snap. I glared at Dr. Storm, my pulse pounding in my ears.“I told you,” I repeated, slower this time, each word cutting like a blade. “I. Don’t. Do. Drugs.”His pen hovered over the clipboard, torn between writing more or calling security. “Elara,” he said in that carefully calm tone doctors used when they thought you were unstable, “LSD doesn’t just show up in your bloodstream by magic.”I almost laughed. If only he knew.“I’m telling you the truth,” I said, my voice low but firm. “Someone must’ve done something to me — drugged me. I would never take that stuff willingly.”A memory stabbed through me — the skull-splitting pain, masked faces, the prick in my arm.“I was taken,” I whispered. “I remember people… They injected something into me.”Dr. Storm’s brows furrowed, but he didn’t interrupt.“And before that… I was with Kael. We were talking about the missing guard, and the man who…” I swallowed the lump i

  • THE COLD WOLF'S MATE    CHAPTER FORTY

Elara’s POVWhat in the world happened? My eyes fluttered open, but the bright light made me shut them tightly. I could feel my head pounding hard. Slowly, I opened my eyes again as they began adjusting to the light.Where was I?I turned my head to the side. A machine was beeping loudly, and a long drip was connected to my hand. I shut my eyes, trying to remember what had happened. Then the memories came flooding back — the night Kael had talked about his missing guard, the search for the man wearing my dead father’s face... and then it all went blank. Confused, I tried to remember more, but I was met with a sharp, stabbing pain.“AHHHHHHH!” I screamed, clutching my head as if that would stop the pain.I heard sounds around me, voices maybe, but I couldn’t control what I saw — the pain was ripping through me like a tornado. Then I felt a prick in my skin. Seconds later, a wave of drowsiness washed over me, and the pain began to subside. My eyes fluttered open again, but everything wa

  • THE COLD WOLF'S MATE    CHAPTER THIRTY-NINE

Kael’s POVThe forest was breathing. Not in the way trees swayed or leaves whispered, but in a slow, deliberate rhythm. It was like the entire place had a pulse. I could feel it under my skin, in my head, in the space between each thud of my heart. My grip tightened on my sword, but the damn thing kept flickering — solid one moment, transparent the next.“Elara!” My voice cracked the heavy silence, but the forest swallowed it up like it didn’t want her name spoken here.A shadow darted to my left. I swung — steel sliced nothing but air.I didn’t care. I wasn’t leaving without her.My mind felt… off. Every sound was too sharp. Every movement left ghostly trails. The scent of her was everywhere — too sweet, too vivid. I caught a glimpse of her up ahead — her pale dress, loose hair — moving between the trees.“Elara!”She didn’t turn. She walked deeper into the woods, into the mist that curled like living fingers.I followed, my boots sinking slightly into damp earth. The deeper I went,
