The front door of the luxurious penthouse in one of Manhattan’s most exclusive neighborhoods closed with a soft yet chilling thud.

Aria stood stiffly in the middle of the living room, surrounded by black, gray, and glass. The simple white wedding dress, free of excessive ornamentation, still clung to her body. The rushed wedding held that morning in the hospital chapel, attended only by legal witnesses, Mr. Sterling, and Mrs. Sterling, who was still lying on an ICU gurney, felt like a nightmare that had happened far too quickly.

There had been no reception, no joyful music, and certainly no congratulations from the groom.

Lucas walked in first. He roughly removed his black suit jacket and tossed it onto the leather sofa before loosening his tie, his expression filled with obvious disgust.

“There are two master bedrooms upstairs,” Lucas said without looking at Aria. His voice was flat and distant. “The room on the left is mine. You can use the one on the right. Never enter my room without permission, and don’t expect us to share a bed.”

Aria clenched the hem of her wedding dress. She took a deep breath, trying to keep her voice steady and avoid showing any weakness.

“You don’t need to remind me, Lucas,” Aria replied coldly. “I remember our contract perfectly well. We both have our boundaries.”

Lucas let out a cynical snort. He turned and looked Aria up and down with a contemptuous gaze.

“Good. At least you know your place. Because to me, tonight is no different from...”

*Bzz. Bzz. Bzz.*

Lucas’s phone, lying on the glass table, suddenly vibrated violently. The name displayed on the screen immediately transformed his previously cold expression into one of deep concern.

Chloe.

Lucas snatched up the phone and declined the call, then reached into his pants pocket for his car keys. His movements were hurried, completely disregarding the fact that this was the first night of his official marriage.

“Where are you going?” Aria asked instinctively, although she already knew the answer from the panic written across his face.

Lucas paused at the door and glanced at Aria from the corner of his eye, his sharp gaze piercing into her.

“None of your business,” Lucas replied coldly. “Chloe needs me tonight. She can’t get through this alone after what our family has done to her.”

Aria held her breath. A tightness crept into her chest, not from jealousy, but from sheer humiliation. The man who had exchanged sacred vows in front of his critically ill mother just hours ago was now leaving her without hesitation for another woman on their first night of marriage.

“Lucas, your mother is still in the hospital,” Aria said, her voice restrained as she tried to appeal to his common sense. “What if the press finds out you’re going to see Chloe tonight? This whole charade could be exposed, and your mother’s condition could...”

“Enough, Aria!” Lucas snapped, turning around and pointing a finger directly at her face. “Never use my mother’s condition to control my life! You’ve already gotten what you wanted. Your debt and your exhibition will be paid for. So play your part as my trophy wife and stay out of my affairs!”

Without waiting for her response, Lucas turned, opened the penthouse door, and hurried out. The sound of his leather shoes echoed loudly through the corridor before disappearing along with the heavy thud of the door closing behind him.

An oppressive silence once again settled over the luxurious penthouse that now felt like a gilded cage.

Aria stood alone in the middle of the cold room. She squeezed her eyes shut, allowing a single tear to slip down her cheek, not because Lucas’s behavior had hurt her, but because of the bitter realization that the road ahead of her for the next two years would be far more difficult than she had imagined.

Aria slowly walked toward the large mirror in the corner of the room. She stared at her reflection, still dressed in her wedding gown, then removed the small tiara from her head and tossed it onto the table.

“Two years, Aria,” she whispered to her reflection, her gaze sharp and resolute. “You only have to survive for two years.”

**A Bloody Scheme and the Thorn of Attraction** "It was Mrs. Chloe who did this to me..." Aunt Maya's confession cut through the silence of the penthouse like a sharp dagger, instantly filling the room with a chilling stillness. Aria held her breath, her beautiful eyes narrowing with suspicion. The revelation that Chloe had assaulted the elderly maid did not surprise her in the slightest. Aria knew all too well how cruel and manipulative Chloe could be. However, seeing Aunt Maya invoke Chloe's name in front of Lucas with such theatrical anguish and suffering immediately set off alarm bells in Aria's mind. Her instincts told her that another deception was unfolding. Lucas froze in place. His grip on Aunt Maya's shoulders loosened at once. His expression darkened, tension settling heavily in his eyes as he heard the name of the woman who had repeatedly brought turmoil into his life. "Chloe... did this to you?" Lucas whispered hoarsely, his voice thick with barely restrained anger.

    ## The Mask Slips and a Bloody Confession "Take me home, or I'll go back by myself. I intend to collect on your promise concerning Aunt Maya." Aria's voice cut through the silence of the VIP hospital room like a razor-sharp blade. Her eyes locked onto Lucas's dark irises, demanding that he honor the promise he had made at the penthouse and again at the intersection earlier. There was no room for negotiation or compromise in her beautiful eyes, which had turned as cold as ice. Lucas swallowed hard and nodded slowly, his chest heavy with overwhelming guilt. "I'll take you back to the penthouse now, Aria. We'll settle everything tonight." He turned and gave his mother a subtle gesture of farewell. Eleanor could only watch the two of them with a sorrowful, worried expression. The drive back to the penthouse passed in suffocating silence. Lucas sped through the darkness of the night, seemingly racing against time to prove to Aria that he wasn't blind to the truth. However,

Chloe's sharp whisper echoed through the silence of the penthouse's back corridor as they made their way toward the service exit. The rhythmic clicks of her high heels matched the rapid pounding of Aunt Maya's heart, which raced with overwhelming fear. The elderly woman half-ran to keep up with Chloe, repeatedly wiping the dried blood from her cheek with a handkerchief dampened by her cold sweat. Chloe abruptly stopped at a dimly lit corner of the hallway. She spun around so suddenly that Aunt Maya nearly collided with her. With an air of absolute dominance, Chloe seized the older woman's shoulders and forced her head down until her lips were right beside the maid's ear. "Inject that bleeding-inducing poison directly into Eleanor's IV fluid at the hospital later," Chloe whispered softly, her voice deceptively sweet

    ## A Bloody Diversion and a New Pawn The icy blade pressing against her cheek, combined with the warm trickle of her own blood, shattered every last defense Aunt Maya had left. Her fear of death swallowed her feigned courage whole. The furious, merciless look in Aria's eyes convinced her that the young woman standing before her was not playing around. "P-please... spare me, ma'am! I'll talk! I'll tell you the truth!" Aunt Maya pleaded, her voice trembling violently as she clasped her cold fingers together on the marble floor. "The truth is, I..." "Aunt Maya!" A piercing scream suddenly rang out from the wide-open doorway of the master bedroom, sharply cutting off the maid's confession. The sharp clatter of high heels striking the floor shattered the tense atmosphere in the room. Chloe stood rigidly in the doorway, panting as though she had just finished running a marathon. Her heavily made-up eyes widened as they swept across the room, taking in the sight of Aria holding a

Her breath caught in her throat, and the fingers clutching Lucas's shirt suddenly went limp. Every joint in her body tensed violently as reality slammed back into her consciousness. She had almost done it. She had almost exposed her greatest secret, the pregnancy she had desperately hidden to protect her unborn baby's life from Chloe's grasp and Lucas's suffocating obsession with protecting her. Her emotions and the pain caused by Lucas's disbelief had nearly shattered her defenses in a foolish moment. Lucas furrowed his brows even deeper, his gaze sharpening as he demanded an explanation. "What are you going to lose, Aria? Tell me!" Before Aria could come up with a lie to cover her unfinished sentence, there were two soft knocks from the half-closed door of the master bedroom. The door was gently pushed open, revealing Aunt Maya standing in the doorway with an innocent

Chloe had never intended to reveal the pregnancy to Lucas. The devilish woman knew that if Lucas discovered the truth, he would tighten his protection around Aria and bind her to him forever. Instead, Chloe had planted an insider, placing one of her servants inside this luxurious penthouse to quietly eliminate Lucas's flesh and blood, making it appear to be a tragic natural miscarriage without leaving a trace of wrongdoing. "Make sure the poison is thoroughly mixed into her drink this afternoon," Chloe's voice whispered faintly from the other end of the phone, still audible to Aria. "Make her lose that child without Lucas suspecting that I was behind it." "Yes, Mrs. Chloe. Everything will g
