Masuk“Out!” Tardrain screamed, stamping his palm on his wheelchair armrest, his chest rose and fell in rage.
Ivana stood frozen in place, her legs refusing to move. The shocking discovery sent her mind reeling, struggling to grasp the truth. Ivana’s feet rooted to the floor. The shock still buzzed in her veins, he was crippled. No one had warned her. Not Lilico. Not Gladdis. Not even Davis. Did they hide it on purpose? Her mind spun. ‘Davis wouldn’t lie to me… would he?’ But the irony hit harder. The untouchable Tardrain Brooklyn, The New York’s golden monster, the man who crushed empires with his successful company—reduced to this shadowed room, hiding his broken body while the world believed he was conquering abroad. He had an accident, amnesia. A secret kept from the world. Well, damn, she thought, a dark thrill curling in her belly. This just got interesting. “Why the stare?” His voice dropped lower, colder, those piercing brown eyes locking onto hers like a predator sighting prey. Even seated, he dominated the space. He wondered how a total stranger got into his room, and her face wasn’t familiar to any of the servants he knew. Strangely, Ivana found herself staring back. Despite the fear she should have felt, she gazed at him calmly, her thoughts running wild. Lilico’s words flashed through her mind and she regained her composition; ‘Act brave and don’t be scared of him.’ Lilico’s words echoed in her head. Ivana let out a soft chuckle and stood upright. “You’re not what I’d expected,” she said, her voice lancing with mockery, focusing on his face to avoid looking at his wheelchair, regardless of his cold glare. Tardrain scoffed, his dark eyes flickering with amusement. “Disappointed?” He wondered where her audacity came from to stare into his eyes, with that mockery gaze of hers. “Just didn’t expect our proud peacock to be sitting in a wheelchair,” she retorted, her gaze drifting away from his, to his wheelchair, a hint of a smirk playing on her lips. Tardrain’s face turned beet red with anger and he snapped his fury gaze at her. That was a huge punch to his guts, as his hands tightened around his wheelchair. ‘Damn! Where did the courage come from?’ Ivana was also shocked by her words. Tardrain’s jaw slightly dropped, a mixture of outrage and shock etched on his face. His gaze locked onto hers, then his expression darkened. He slammed his clenched fist on his wheelchair armrest. “You’re fired!” Ivana scoffed, as all the fears she was once feeling within disappeared, and she felt more brave and was enjoying every bit of it. “You didn’t hire me. Do I look like your maid?” she asked, raising an eyebrow. She slowly paced around the lavish room, dark room. His spacious room was large enough to accommodate ten people, with a huge quality couch. She carefully avoided the broken flower vase glass scattered on the floor even in the dark. “Get out!” Tardrain yelled angrily again, his fingers clenching the armrest, rage surging through his veins as he stared at her as if he’d eat her alive for not shivering in fear or running out crying just like the others. ‘Why should I?’ she thought. ‘I’m here for the money… and maybe a little revenge on men who think they own the world.’ Ivana leaned in, her face inches from his as he sat in his wheelchair, his chest straining against the constraints. His messy dark curly hair framed his face, accentuating his sharp jawline. His piercing brown eyes bored into her soul as he glared. Her heart raced while her mind jumbled with thoughts. A surge of adrenaline ran through her veins as she wondered what she’d do next. Retreat or stand her ground? How can someone this beautiful be such a disgusting bastard? Her heart slammed against her ribs. A traitorous pulse throbbed low in her belly. Tardrain’s cologne hit her nostrils, a complex mix of bergamot with a hint of Tom Ford Noir, lingering on his two-piece baggy pajamas. She held his glare, her heart pounding. “Or what, Tardrain? Stand up and drag me out with your crippled legs?” The words landed like a slap. His eyes widened in shock, then pure, molten fury. His chest rose and fell faster, the fabric of his pajamas stretching tight across defined muscle. “Who the hell are you?” Tardrain snared between gritted teeth. He felt humiliated that she was called him crippled, without any hint of fear which made his blood boil like a hot volcano ready to burst. Ivana let out a short chuckle, overlooking his angry face. “Tardrain Brooklyn, I'm your loving wife.” she whispered. Tardrain’s eyes widened in shock. Without waiting for a response, she sauntered out of the room, holding her breath until she escaped the suffocating tension. Outside Tardrain’s room, Ivana closed the door behind her and slumped against the wall. Her chest heaved violently, her trembling hands pressing against her ribcage as if trying to trap her runaway heartbeat. ‘Damn! Where did that courage come from?’ A shaky smile split her lips, pride swelling in her chest. ‘I stared at him. Looked straight into his eyes.’ She giggled, half-hysterical, as she stumbled downstairs, her legs still wobbly with adrenaline. Lilico stepped into the hall, her sharp eyes narrowing as she yanked Ivana into a pastel-pink bedroom. The door slammed shut. “How did it go?” Ivana nodded, her shoulders sagging as she collapsed onto the bed. “I did as you said. I was bold and wasn’t intimidated by him.” Her voice wavered, betraying the fear she’d buried beneath bravado. Lilico’s gaze widened, her painted lips parting in disbelief. This wasn’t the response she’d expected. “You… actually did that?” A slow, predatory grin crept across her face. “Wow. You’re getting professional at this.” Their laughter rang hollow, Ivana’s fraying nerves masked by forced humor. Suddenly her phone buzzed, and she fumbled to check it. A notification glowed: $2,000,000 deposited. “Two million dollars? Who sent this?” she gasped, her voice cracking. “I did!” Lilico waved her phone, smugness oozing from every pore. “Why? What for?” Ivana exclaimed, as all color drained from her face. “For doing a wonderful job today.” Lilico responded, smiling calmly. “I didn’t do much,” Ivana muttered, shying away, her cheeks flushing with uneasy pride. She was already thinking of how to send it to Davis to pay off some of the debtors. Lilico flopped onto the bed beside her, draping an arm over her shoulders. “Nobody walks into that room and comes out the same. You either see them crying or begging. You survived.” “Why?” Ivana eyebrows furrowed in confusion. “Because Tardrain treats everyone like trash, even his mother and me, his sister.” Lilico’s voice sharpened, her smirk twisting into something venomous “Thank God, someone who hated him as much as I did tampered with his car before he left for the airport. Now he’s disabled forever.” Triumph glittered in her eyes as if she’d carved her name into a trophy. Ivana stiffened, a cold knot tightening in her stomach. ‘She’s the real devil.’ Ivana stared at Lilico in amusement, as she kept racking her brain, thinking about what might be the root of this rivalry between siblings. Lilico sprang up, ran into her closet, and rolled out a sleek designer suitcase, “These are your new clothes. I selected them myself,” She rolled the suitcase to Ivana and thrust a crisp paper into Ivana’s hands. “His rules.” Ivana scanned the list, her blood turning to ice. “Don’t breathe too loud. Don’t make a sound while walking. Your head always bowed. I hate noise. Don’t sleep while I’m awake. Your hands are my table…” “The hell is this?” Ivana exclaimed, wondering how could Tardrain be so inconsiderate about the people around him. “There’s more.” Lilico tossed another sheet at her, laughter bubbling inside of her, watching Ivana’s expression. Ivana’s throat closed as she read. “And I’m supposed to follow these?” She waved the paper in the air. “Or you’ll be fired!” Lilico sing-songed, collapsing into giggles, already enjoying Ivana’s company, and saw how reliable she was. Lilico was so relieved to find someone who actually matched her brother’s energy without stress. “How did he react when you talked back?” Lilico sat beside her as she leaned in for the gist. Ivana scrunched her face to demonstrate Tardrain’s furious expression. “Out!” she barked, mimicking his voice. Lilico cackled, doubling over. “I bet he almost ate you alive!” They both roared into laughter. Ivana gradually felt comfortable around Lilico, and she didn’t miss noticing how pretty Lilico looked and even more prettier when she smiled. Set aside Lilico’s scheming and cunning personality, she’s also sweet and easy to be around with. Ivana was already seeing that side of her in her words and gestures, and planned to get even closer to her to find out more of her hidden agenda. Ivana nodded, her laughter brittle as she stared at the papers again, ‘Tardrain, let’s break your shield before making you fall in love.’ Her fingers tightened around the rules, resolving hardening beneath the dread. He paused, just long enough to look into her eyes. The heat there, hungry, daring, teasing, made him gulp slightly. She wants it. She wants me. Damn… she’s asking for it without saying a word.’ Davis' head was in a jumbled mess. Mrs. Gladdis held his gaze, her lips parting slightly as her chest rose and fell beneath him. ‘Yes… look at me like that. Don’t stop now.’ She moaned within. Then, with a smooth, almost reverent motion, his lips trailed down her neck to the curve of her collarbone. Her soft gasp encouraged him, and he took his time, memorizing the warmth, the slight tremble beneath his lips. ‘It’s been so long… I almost forgot how this feels,’ she thought, her fingers slowly sliding into his hair, holding him there. His hands moved higher, cupping her breasts lightly, thumbs brushing over her hardened nipples. She arched into his touch, a low moan slipping past her lips. “Davis…” she whispered, breathless, and he felt her pulse against his chest. ‘She’s mine tonight,
Davis watched as Ivana hastily rushed out of the mansion, her steps quick, uneven, like she was running from something. The door slammed behind her, and he frowned, curiosity flickering for a second.‘Where is she going in such a hurry?’ He questioned. But he pushed the thought aside. It wasn’t his business. He leaned back into the chair, legs stretched, and continued munching on his snack, letting the tension from the mansion fade as he waited. The soft sound of heels on the stairs drew his attention. She walked down slowly, fully dressed, her eyes widening slightly when she saw him sitting there. She paused, a small gasp in her throat, before stepping forward and tapping his shoulder.“Hey.” Lilico’s voice was soft, polite, but tinged with surprise.Davis turned and smiled. “Lilico.” He stood, waving lightly.Lilico glanced around, brows furrowed. “Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?” she asked, because had never shown up unannounced before.“I tried calling,” he said, sinking b
Ivana remained standing for a moment, her gaze drifting down to the bottle lying on the floor. It had rolled slightly earlier and now rested near the leg of the bed, its white surface almost too innocent for what it carried.A strange uneasiness settled in her chest again, and for a brief second, she considered picking it up… but she didn’t.Instead, she turned away from it completely, as though distancing herself from the choice it represented.Right now, she had something far more urgent to deal with.Without wasting another second, she reached for her phone and quickly dialed the number she had memorized from Tardrain’s phone earlier. Her fingers moved fast, almost instinctively, as if her mind had already made the decision long before now. The line rang for a while. No answer.Ivana pressed her lips together, her impatience creeping in as she pulled the phone slightly away from her ear, staring at the screen for a second before dialing again. Her fingers tapped lightly against her
Ivana slowly stood up from the bed and walked toward Lilico, her steps measured as her mind raced for the right words. She didn’t know how to explain it to her, didn’t know how to make her understand that rushing things now would only ruin everything she had been working so hard to build. At least… She was making progress.Tardrain was slowly getting comfortable around her, and that alone had taken effort, patience, and careful steps. She couldn’t afford to lose that now. What she didn’t understand was why everything had suddenly become so urgent. The agreement had been clear from the beginning—one year.So why this pressure now, and Why this sudden desperation?“Why are you silent?” Lilico asked, her eyes fixed on Ivana with an intensity that made it impossible to avoid the question.Ivana blinked, snapping out of her thoughts. She forced a small smile onto her lips and stepped closer.“I’m making progress now, Lilico,” she said softly, her voice calm but pleading beneath the surface
Her eyes lit up instantly, a wave of relief washing over her.She stood up quickly and positioned herself in front of him, wrapping her arms around him carefully. Taking a deep breath, she gathered her strength and pulled.“Ugh…” she groaned under the effort.Slowly, he rose from the wheelchair, but the moment he stood, his body leaned heavily against her as a sharp pain shot through his waist and legs.“Shit…” he muttered under his breath, trying to suppress the pain. His grip on her tightened instinctively.Ivana looked up at him, and the moment she saw his face, her heart clenched. The pain he was trying so hard to hide was written all over him, and it hurt her to see him struggling like that.He tried to sit back down, but Ivana held him in place.“You can do it, Tardrain,” she said, her voice trembling as tears gathered in her eyes.Tardrain looked down at her, his gaze lingering on the way she held onto him so firmly, her arms wrapped around him as though she was determined not
(BACK IN THE MANSION)Tardrain had fully changed into his gym outfit, adjusting the sleeves slightly before settling properly into his wheelchair. With a quiet breath, he began rolling himself out of his room, the soft sound of the wheels moving against the polished floor echoing faintly in the silent hallway. He made his way toward the stairs and carefully wheeled himself down, his movements practiced and controlled, showing how used he had become to doing things on his own. Soon, he reached the ground floor and continued heading toward the exit of the mansion. However, just as he was about to move further, he suddenly stopped.Slowly, his head turned toward the direction of Ivana’s room.Mike had told him which room belonged to her, but at that time, he hadn’t paid much attention to it because she was nothing more than an unwanted presence in his life. Someone he had no reason to concern himself with. But now, things are different, and she was supposed to check on him. Yet she hadn’
Mrs. Gladdis nodded slowly, her expression firm yet thoughtful.“What time exactly?” she asked, her fingers tapping lightly against the polished surface of her desk.“By 10:00 AM, ma’am,” Rose replied, glancing down at the tablet in her hands to confirm.Mrs. Gladdis waved her off dismissively, sig
Ivana walked back into the mansion dragging her foot. Every step felt heavier than the last. She muttered curses under her breath. ‘How I wish I’d left him to that viper’s mercy. I shouldn't have interfered. Then I wouldn’t be the fool he branded a busybody. ‘Gosh! I have never seen someone so ung
“What are you doing here?” Tardrain’s voice cut sharp through the quiet gym.Ivana blinked hard, snapping out of her thoughts. She took two quick steps back from him, narrowing her eyes. “Huh? What did you say?” not recalling what he had said earlier.Tardrain ignored her and rolled his wheelchair
Ivana went straight to Tardrain’s room without stopping to shower. Her skin felt sticky under her clothes, thighs still damp from earlier with Davis. She could taste him faintly when she swallowed, but she ignored it and kept moving. She stopped in front of Tardrain’s door and knocked once, quick,
