The pain vanished as suddenly as it came.

Leaving Elena collapsed against the cold balcony floor gasping for breath.

Her chest still burned faintly beneath the glowing necklace while cold sweat clung to her skin.

Across from her Roberto remained braced against the stone wall, one hand pressed hard against his ribs.

His breathing sounded uneven.

Angry.

Like he hated the fact that he had just felt her pain.

For several long seconds neither of them spoke.

Below them the estate guards shouted over

“I’m dead.”The words settled into the room like ice.Elena stared at the girl standing near the corner of her bedroom while cold wind drifted through the curtains behind her.At first glance she looked normal.Young.Pretty.But the longer Elena looked—The more wrong things became. Her skin was too pale. Not natural pale.Lifeless pale. The dark school uniform hanging loosely from her body looked damp near the sleeves as though she had walked through rain for years and never dried. And her feet—Her feet hovered slightly above the floor.Elena’s throat tightened instantly.Every instinct inside her screamed to run.But strangely…The fear wasn’t overwhelming this time. Not like the blood-covered woman with the knife. This girl looked more shocked than dangerous.“You’re dead?” Elena repeated weakly. The girl blinked slowly. Then nodded once.“Yes.”The candles around the room flickered violently.Elena swallowed hard. Her mind raced desperately trying to make sense of what she was s

The gunshot still echoed through the night when Elena screamed.“EDUARDO!”She shoved past Roberto violently. The cold night air lashed against her skin as she ran toward the balcony railing, her trembling hands gripping the stone edge desperately.Below—Eduardo lay collapsed against the grass.Blood spread darkly beneath him.Lantern light flickered across his massive frame while guards surrounded him cautiously with guns raised.“Elena…”Even injured—Even bleeding—He was still trying to get up.The sight shattered something inside her.“Elena, get away from the edge.”Roberto’s voice came from behind her.Calm.Too calm.Like he hadn’t just shot a man.Elena spun around so quickly her hair whipped across her face.“What did you do?!”Her voice cracked violently.Roberto stood near the balcony doors dressed entirely in black, one hand still loosely holding the gun at his side.Cold wind moved through his dark hair while his expression remained unreadable.“He trespassed.”Elena st

Night draped itself over the Francesco estate like black silk.Cold wind swept through the towering trees surrounding the mansion while clouds swallowed the moon whole, leaving only scattered lanterns glowing faintly across the massive grounds.Eduardo stood outside his cabin staring silently at Elena’s jewelry spread across the wooden table.Diamonds glittered beneath candlelight.Gold bracelets.Pearl earrings.A life far too expensive for a man like him.His rough fingers closed around one of the necklaces slowly before setting it back down again. His chest felt tight tonight.Wrong.Like his body itself understood he might not survive what he was about to do.Roberto Francesco was not a man people crossed and lived to speak about afterward.Eduardo knew that.Every villager knew that. The man was practically a whispered nightmare across Italy. And still—Eduardo reached for his coat.Because Elena was there.Because every night without her felt unbearable.Because somehow in the s

Days passed without Roberto. At first Elena told herself she didn’t care. The Francesco estate felt easier to breathe in without him stalking its hallways with those cold black eyes and terrifying presence. No sudden commands. No possessive touches. No dangerous tension curling through every room whenever he entered. And yet… By the fourth day, Elena found herself listening for his footsteps anyway. By the sixth day, she started waking in the middle of the night expecting to find him sitting silently near the fireplace watching her. By the eighth— The silence began to feel wrong. The estate itself seemed different without Roberto inside it. Like the mansion had lost the monster living at its center. Every morning servants entered carrying gifts. Designer dresses folded carefully into silk boxes. Diamond necklaces. Perfumes imported from Paris. Shoes Elena was too afraid to even touch. “Lord Dante sent these for you.” The maids would smile excitedly while laying ever

Elena woke to warmth. For one disoriented moment, she thought she was still dreaming.Soft sheets tangled around her legs while dim morning light spilled through towering black curtains, bathing the massive bedroom in shades of gold and gray.Something strong tightened around her waist.Elena stiffened instantly.A bare muscular arm rested across her stomach. Her breath caught.Slowly She turned her head.Roberto.Sleeping beside her.His dark hair fell slightly across his forehead while his face remained relaxed in unconsciousness, sharp features softened by the pale morning light.Without the constant coldness on his face, he looked unfairly beautiful.High cheekbones.Strong jaw.Long dark lashes resting against tan skin. The black sheets sat low on his waist, exposing hard sculpted muscle and the faint scars scattered across his chest and abdomen.Elena immediately looked away.Heat crept embarrassingly into her face. Why was she here? The last thing she remembered was falling asl
