Cheers echoed as Laura and Gabriel stepped onto the field. Shoulder to shoulder they faced their two opponents. Dust swirled around their boots kicked up by the sound of the crowd eager for carnage.

Laura’s silver hair was tied and braided into a high ponytail now wrapped into a bun. Her dark leather armor hugged her frame, her movements sleek and calculated.

Beside her Gabriel stood muscular and grounded wielding a double bladed axe, he looked at her and gave a nod.

Their opponents charged.

———

Steel clashed with steel. Gabriel intercepted a brutal swing meant for Laura, parrying it then drove the opponent back with brutal force. Knocking the other opponent off balance.

The crowd roared.

Laura looked at the crowd and froze.

She saw a pair of silver eyes, piercing through the sea of faces locking with hers.

Alpha Damian.

Tall, expressionless. His hair now like hers. Silver. He sat watching his weapon at work.

That brief hesitation cost her.

A fist crashed into her ribs, knocking the

The scent of sweat filled the air in the girls bathroom after the morning drills. The barracks echoed faint voices, water trickling, the shuffling of boots and occasional laughter. Laura sat in one of the far stalls, eight other girls scattered through the space, washing up and adjusting their uniforms, brushing their hair. Laura’s legs ached, her shoulders sore but her mind was calm until it hit.A jolt.Like lightning rippled through her spine, an electric surge blazed through her body. Her back arched instinctively, a silent gasp escaped her lips. The walls around her seemed to pulse. Startled and shaken Elara yelped.“What the hell was that?” Laura muttered panting.“Elara?” She called out in her mind, but the wolf was still recovering from the shock. “Laura?” Shiela’s voice rang out from the sink area.“ Are you okay?” “I—yeah.I’ll be right out.”She stumbled out the stall, wiping her face quickly her hands trembling. Shiela tilted her head watching Laura.“Come on let’s wash

The noon sun blazed overhead casting sharp shadows across the Trial arena. Dust swirled beneath the boots of dozens of recruits gathered there, cheers, murmurs and the occasional barks of orders echoed. At the heart of it all stood Laura, her hands clenched at her sides. Dressed in black sport shorts and fitted top. Her silver hair secured in a tight bun.Across from her a fellow cadet stood in wolf form snarling, muscle bulged and his fur shimmered as his gray eyes locked on Laura.“Why haven’t you shifted yet, Laura?” The instructor questioned.“I can’t.” “What do you mean by that? Then how are you going to partake in this activity? Shift NOW!” The instructor barked.Enforcer Fay came from behind Laura “What is the problem here?” She asked her tone full of authority “She says she can’t shift.” The instructor answers his voice filled with annoyance“If she says she can’t, let her be. It’s her choice.”“But that’s not what the guideline says. And on the list it is boldly written th

Alpha Damian steeped into the pack house clicking his boots rhythmically against the polished floors, his mind turning with questions and possibilities. Before he could even take a few steps further inside, Marisa eagerly came practically running towards him. Her heels licked too loudly as she outstretched her arms with a false sugary smile plastered on her face. “Damian! My love, your back.” She cooed throwing herself against him, her arms looping around his neck as she pressed a kiss on his cheek. But Damian’s body turned rigid, his jaw clenched and eyes narrowed in cold distaste. He didn’t touch her back, or even blink.Instead he pulled away slowly, his voice a low growl “ Don’t ever do that again.”A suffocating silence fell instantly. Two guards by the entrance exchanged smug smiles behind their stoic expressions, their eyes twinkling in excitement. A couple of maids by the stairs nearly choked on their laughter, quickly covering their mouths and slipping away.Marisa’s fa

The silence after the clanking of the tray was short lived. The door slammed open with a hiss of pressure and Enforcer Fay stormed in, flanked by Frok, tall and grim alongside the doctor. “Laura!” Fay barked narrowing her eyes as she approached Laura. “What was that? That trance?”But Laura didn’t answer immediately Everything was sharper. Her vision seemed to slice through the room with unnatural clarity, colors more vivid than she remembered. The air itself thrummed with energy, raw, ancient and alive. And through it all a voice, soft and steady purred inside her mind like a velvet wrapped thunder. “Your not alone anymore Laura. I will always be with you.”A deep, inexplicable joy rose inside of her. She had a wolf. Finally. She looked up to the group of persons surrounding her, but their voices were distant echoes compared to the warmth blossoming in her chest. Fay stepped closer, pushing for answers, but Laura met her gaze and whispered, voice thick with exhaustion and ser

The sterile hum of the fluorescent lights buzzed overhead, a soft counterpoint to the rhythmic beeping of machines surrounding Laura’s still form. Three days. Three whole days of unbroken silence, her breathing even and shallow, her expression blank, her eyes unmoving and open.Enforcer Fay stood at the edge of the ward, her arms crossed tightly over her chest, concern etched across her face. The scent of antiseptic hung heavily in the air but it could not cover the stench of guilt crawling up her spine. “I wonder when she’ll come back….” Fay muttered under her breath. She knew that Laura wasn’t any ordinary trainee. She was The Weapon. Alpha Damian’s weapon. With each tick of the clock, the pressure mounted. Alpha Damian’s words rang in her ears like a warning bell, his orders precise and absolute. “No harm. No distress. No trauma. She is not to faint beyond six minutes. She must be protected above all.”And here Laura lay, unmoving for three days straight. Trance–induced, the

  • THE CURSED ONE    Chapter 32: The Prophecy Revealed

The mist had thickened in the forest, curling around the blackened trees like waiting spirits. The moon above shone brighter now, bigger and casting everything in a silvery glow. Laura stood in the clearing with Elara, the great white wolf, her fur gleaming in the moonlight.Laura took a shaky breath, the heaviness in the truth she just learnt settled like heavy stones in her chest.“You said I’m the Mother of Shadows… that Melody is the Evil one. Then tell me everything. The prophecy. I want to hear everything.”Elara’s glowing amber eyes met hers, there was both sorrow and depth in them. She took a step closer, her tone rising in a slow melodic tone echoed through the forest like wind over water: “Twins shall be born, One of Good, the other of Evil. Two halves of a coin. Good that cleansed us being destroyed by Evil that reigned. But fate isn’t easily manipulated. Good will rise. A Child of
