In the middle of a glorious day, the clouds appeared from nowhere. It started to pour rain from above and drenched each leaf in the wood. The town had never seen such a storm before. The harsh winds blew as they were taking revenge against nature for exploiting them.
The thunderbolts fell in the deep woods, starting a fire in the drenched forest. The lightning keeps roaring in the dark sky.
All the residents locked themselves in their houses as they predicted that demons were arriving. Some of the houses destroyed or lightning killed many people. Every living being is terrified of nature's aggression. Many humans kept praying for the demons to calm down and show mercy on them but the weather didn't seem to get any better.
A loud and awful thunderbolt growled within the clouds, breaking the sky… as the one powerful lightning stuck to the ground, a heavenly body fell from the sky.
The body burned as it fell and crashed on the land of mortals. A sudden wave of enormous power breaks through the town, destroying most of the house.
Brought devastation to the human world, the sky appeared to be clearing and the sun shone as the last bit of hope of the mortals. The residents started to crawl out from their houses. They couldn't believe what they saw. Everything destroyed their town where they lived peacefully. The strange fire in the deep forest. The place where they get their livings from.
The horror spread like the fire and soon the whole town was consumed by the demon's fire… in the daylight, hardly any survivors left and ran to the neighboring city to seek shelter.
Since that day, the whole town has been named the demon's town.
Seven years later…
"Alexis!!! You see that you haven't finished your work and you are heading out of the house…" a feminine voice yelled to the girl who was busy stuffing books and other items in her backpack.
"You know that I have to leave early for the class… I can't be late. Please, handle this today, I promise I will make up for this mistake, next time maybe…" she grinned and pouted at the woman, who seemed to be in her late fifties.
The woman put her hands on her hips and kept muttering till the young girl headed out. The girl appeared to be in a rush since she had an early morning class. She kept checking the time after reaching a bus station. Hoping that she would get one in time. Although she appeared lucky when a bus arrived, it was already full, leaving her no option but to get in anyway. All the way, she stood and kept her posture good so she wouldn't appear anxious.
Soon her stop arrived and she didn't flinch to get out even before the bus stopped. The passengers yelled at her for being too careless and she shrugged them off and ran inside the campus.
There were students roaming on the campus and the corridor where she struggles to get into her class. As soon as she entered and gasped for air, her eyes fell on the students sitting, waiting for their teacher to arrive.
"I am really sorry… I got a little late… things were pretty messed up…" she chuckled lightly and apologized to the students for being late.
She started the lecture and taught a few important topics. After an hour, she dismissed the class and let the other students prepare for the lecture. Her day went quickly and it was afternoon.
The girl was done with the last lecture of the day and dismissed the students from the class. As she was about to sign in relief, the principal, Mr. Barton entered the class.
"Miss Martin… how are you doing?" He asked the girl.
"I am doing great, Mr. Barton. Hope you are good as well." She greeted him.
"I am more than good… and it's good to see a teacher like you, working so hard to teach students. Anyway, I should come to the point…" he cleared his throat and looked seriously at Alexis.
"Alright… sir, what is the matter?" Alexis appeared curious and anxious at the same time.
"I know that you work really hard to support your family of two but I know that the money you earn isn't enough. I can't pay you more than that in this school and I am afraid that you won't get any better job than this place in the city." He said.
"I understand that Mr. Barton, and I am very thankful for your kind gesture… but I don't get it…" she was clueless…
Mr. Barton sighed heavily and replied to Alexis, "I have received a notice from one of the noblest families of the city. They want a private tutor for their son. And they are offering a good amount to pay."
"Oh well, that's great…" Alexis jumped in excitement.
"Easy… calm down your horses… although, I have volunteered your name in the list. Still, I am afraid…" Mr. Barton sighed.
"Sir, can you elaborate the whole matter to me?" Alexis insisted.
"Actually, it involves nobles and they have conducted a short interview for the volunteers. I have listed your name in the interview. I know you possess great teaching potential and I do want you to get this job, in case anything happens, I know you can tackle it." He responded to her.
"I understood… When is the interview?" She asked.
"In the evening, at five o'clock." Mr. Barton replied.
"What? And where is it?" Alexis panicked that she got less than expected time to prepare herself.
"I tried calling you in the morning but your number was unavailable. I had to finish my work and then I approached you here. I know the time is less, but you gotta make it…" Me. Barton put his hands on Alexis' shoulders.
"Fine!!! But what am I supposed to wear?" She sighed and asked.
"Anything formal… mind to add black in your attire." Mr. Barton replied and went off.
Alexis stood in the middle of the corridors… completely shocked after hearing the news. She made a promise to her aunt to help but the interview was more important. She rushed back to her house as fast as she could and hopped into her room.
"Alexis!!! Did you forget your manners?" Her aunt, Solace, complained.
"I am sorry, Aunt Sol but I will explain everything to you…" Alexis was a bit in a hurry and rushed to clear her wardrobe.
She found a decent white shirt and matched them with a pair of black trousers. Luckily, she got a pair of black boots which she received as a gift during Christmas from school. She never wore them until the right time. This was the right time.
There was no time for makeup, so she washed her face and applied a moisturizer. A tinted lip balm was enough to enhance her olive skin over the face. She tied her hair in a ponytail and grabbed all of her legal and qualification documents in the bag.
Then, she descended the stairs only to be stopped by Aunt Sol.
"Mind explaining this?" She narrowed her eyes on her.
"I have an interview…" she said.
"This time? You weren't informed in the morning…" Aunt complained.
"I found out about it this afternoon and rushed to get my things," Alexis explained to her aunt.
"Is this necessary? To attend the interview?" Her aunt asked in a serious voice.
"Aunt Sol… you know the conditions we are living in and it won't get better if I don't work. Please… I have to go…" Alexis rolled her eyes.
"Well, I know how much you support us but the thing is… I am not feeling good about this. What if something happens to you?" Her aunt was concerned about her.
Alexis exhaled deeply and responded, "it will be fine… the worse can happen is… Rejection…" She smiled at her aunt and left the house.
Although, She appeared confident but there was an anxiety that crawled upto her mind. Everything happened suddenly and she got no time to think precisely about it.
AlexisThe sky was shining beautifully under the embrace of the glorious sun and instead of enjoying the evening with Aunt Sol, I was running to get on time for an interview.I can't remember the last time when I had free time. All the time, I had pushed myself to get a decent job. Of course, the city has provided me with a better and more peaceful place but the money I have earned here isn't enough.I have thanked God that we haven't starved but life is above that. We are a job away from becoming homeless. The bills, due dates, and living life since the moment I came out of the hospital.I don't remember what my life was like before the accident. I don't even remember how I got in an accident. Every time I try to recall the memories, my head hurts. Again, I
AlexisJust as I expected, Aunt Sol was more than mad, she was disappointed that I didn't inform her that I was going to be late."Young lady? Is this time fine for you to come home?" She flared her nostrils while glaring at me."I can explain… but let me in first…" I insisted.Although, she let me in the house but she kept following me to the room. I knew that she was curious and eager to know about my interview. And that's where the fear in my heart erupted."How was the interview? You haven't broken the silence… is everything okay?" She was concerned."Let me change first, then I will discuss something with you…" I sighed heavily and Aunt Sol provided me with some personal space. As soon as she left, I changed my clothes quickly and rushed to the bathroom in order to wash my face. Since there was No makeup painted on my skin, it was visibly clean with one wash.Soon after, I went down
AlexisThe sweet peas aroma had filled in my nostrils and it drove me to the kitchen counter, where my Aunt was preparing the breakfast. I descended the stairs and carried my luggage along. Although it was heavier than I expected at first, I tried to be as quiet as I could. Once I brought all the three suitcases, I sat on the stool next to the counter and watched Aunt preparing breakfast for us.Last night, I packed all of the stuff I might require. In fact, Aunt Sol asked me to put everything I need but It would be too much. In case I need anything, I can come back anytime and take it. It was a great night spent well. I mean, we both learned a lot from everything. She learned the technology and I learned to be patient with time.I dressed up in casual boots and jeans with a jacket to cover. Having a bad hair day wasn't the worst thing I encountered in the morning, I pinned them in a messy bun. But, leaving Aunt Sol and shifting to another place, it would be dif
AlexisAlways been an early bird in my life, and always watched the peace and silence of the morning to be glorious. However, this place doesn't seem to sleep at all. When I woke up in the morning, I went out to breathe in fresh air. I stayed near the room because I didn't want to get lost in this labyrinth. I found most of the workers running and working even before dawn. It was surprising to my eyes.Of course, this place is huge and requires clean maintenance, that's why the human resources are huge in numbers. The Porsche ambience of the castle was screaming luxury and I was afraid of being a part of it. I might be staying in a palace but I wasn't the queen. After a short walk, I headed back to the room and went to take a bath. Today, it will be an important day for me as I, as a teacher, am going to teach
AlexisAs quiet as a mouse, this room was closed and I was suffocating inside. My chest was burning like a coal mine but I pretended to be unaffected. This place doesn't seem to be ventilated either, except for the vents for the air conditioner. They were working perfectly, however, I was sweating. As I started to breathe heavily, Stefan stood closer to me. This closeness made me take a few steps back. I do love people around me but I love my personal space more than anything. I glared at him and he stared back at me. There was mischief lingering in his eyes and I was aware that he was not upto anything good."Mr Donovan, I asked you to give me the list of your books and your syllabus. I need to work on your schedule." I said while hyperventilating cleanly. He noti
AlexisIt was evening outside and the clouds clustered in the sky. The sun was high at the end and soon it will sleep within the horizon. I watched the birds fly from the trees along the gentle breeze. I sighed as I watched them palpitating their wings. I envied their freedom. My head was dizzy and my eyes were swollen. I cried since I locked myself in the room. Never bothered to answer any of the knocks. I regret coming here when Aunt Sol was against it. She was right when she said that No one knows what happens behind those walls.I should have heard her and admitted. But no, all I wanted was to create a better life for us. It was damnly confusing to leave this place. I never thought demons and evils could be real. Everything is delusional!!! I wanted to scream and pour out everything in my heart. But i can'
AlexisPretty much obsessed with my profession, I decided to stay in this beautiful hell called the royal residency. At first, anyone, literally anyone can fall in their traps.they way they set their assets, they don't look unprofessional in the shit they were doing. I was a smart and intelligent person and still fell into their alluring trap. But why humans only? If they really blended with humans that greatly, then they must have stepped outside this castle. Or is there something shady behind these thick walls? A history which was hidden well.I rubbed my temples and got to freshen up. I needed a break and it was enough to make me realise what I have to plan and how to execute it. All I needed to do was be careful around them. They would be anywhere, watching me. Maybe that was the reason why I felt being watched? Are there any cameras hidden in this place?
AlexisI watched the shining light illuminating on the pathway where the cart drove. It wondered what it would feel like to walk on that pebbled road, bare feet touching the cold stones and soothing them. The fairy lights hung over the roofs were pretty and you can't deny that royals were living a lavish life here. It started to ache my neck when I kept turning it left and right to glance everything I could in this place. The cart stopped near a huge metallic gate. There were golden patterns over the metallic gate which made a shape of a demon, sort of. But now I know their little secret, it must be the demon they worship. The gates opened by the guards and the cart drove further inside. I was anxious when I realised that I was going to have dinner with the king of this place. I was afraid that he didn't want me to be the tutor for his son.
