SAFE PASSAGE

last update Last Updated: 2025-06-25 23:43:01

Just as we were about to drive off with Julian and Marco, a tall, muscular man stepped out from the shadows. His face was half-covered with a scarf, but his eyes were sharp. Too alert for this hour.

“You have to reroute,” he said, his voice low but firm. “Victor’s men are making too much noise near the lagoon. The camp’s already compromised.”

Julian cursed under his breath. “Merda. Grazie.”

The man disappeared just as quickly as he came.

Marco climbed into the driver’s seat, and the engine roared to life.

Rob stiffened beside me. “Then what’s the new route?”

Julian hesitated. “The one you’re thinking about. You’ll need permission. The Eastern Dock is under the jurisdiction of the Inner Circle now. They don’t let anyone move cargo or people without tribute.”

Marco slammed his hand against the hood.

“We don’t have time for tribute,” Rob said.

Julian turned to us, jaw locked. “We have no choice but to change the plan. We’re talking to the bastards in charge.”

I clutched the seat as we pu

  • THE DEVIL’S CHOKEHOLD    I WANT TO TRY

The world outside the room was still dangerous, but for a brief second, this couch in a blood-soaked building felt like a sanctuary. We lay tangled together, no longer naked but not quite put back together either. I wore a simple black top and jeans that clung too tightly to my thighs. Rob’s shirt was unbuttoned at the top, his cheek slightly red where I’d slapped him, his pulse calmer now but still strong beneath my cheek. His fingers brushed my cheek. “You okay?” he asked, quieter than before. I nodded, but my throat tightened. “Are you?” Rob exhaled, eyes on the cracked ceiling. “No. But I will be. As long as you’re with me.” “Don’t say that,” I said. “Okay, but it’s the truth.” He kissed my temple. “I should not have done that anyway.” “It’s not…” “No. It’s true. I probably put you under pressure unconsciously. And I’m sorry.” I turned away so he didn’t have to see the tears forming in my eyes. “B, look at me,” he said softly. I shook my head and he didn’t pre

  • THE DEVIL’S CHOKEHOLD    TUG-OF-WAR

I had slipped into a simpler bodycon dress when we freshened up at the villa, but Rob didn’t care that we had limited clothes. He tore it off me and shoved me against the wall, his lips brushing over my cheeks before sucking hard on my neck. All of my anger melted like wax under flame the second his hands touched me.He broke the kiss just long enough to lock the door, then pressed back into me. I tugged on his hair and he tore my panties off like they offended him.He was wild and rough and I loved every second of it. His fingers fumbled with his buckle for only a moment before freeing his cock.He lifted me with one strong arm, and I wrapped my legs around his waist as he took one of my nipples into his mouth.“Fuck…,” I moaned, fingers buried in his hair. And with one single, hard thrust, he was inside me. Stretching and filling me up nicely. He buried his face in my neck and moved slow at first, like he wanted to feel every reaction and every twitch I gave him.“Cazzo, mi fai impa

  • THE DEVIL’S CHOKEHOLD    DYING CANDLELIGHT

BIANCA I couldn’t feel my hands. Marriage certificate? Julian had to be joking. But he wasn’t smiling. He leaned against the wall, arms crossed, that snake tattoo on his neck flexing with every breath. “What the hell do you mean a marriage certificate?” I asked, forcing the words out. “Fiery. I like that,” he said, smirking. “But it’s the only way they’ll let you on, cara. The route is already compromised. Customs officials will be bribed to ignore manifest errors, but not a pair of fugitives with no cover story. They want a husband and wife. No ring, no certificate—no passage. .” I turned to Rob. He didn’t even blink. “Can we fake it?” I whispered. Julian snorted. “Not in four hours. These men don’t take chances. You’ll be vetted by someone who’s been trained to smell lies. And if you’re not fast enough, someone else will take the spot.” “And if we don’t pass?” “Dead,” Julian said flatly. I swallowed hard. “So we just what? Get married?” “We’ll get married,” Rob said.

  • THE DEVIL’S CHOKEHOLD    NOT SO DEAD SISTER

BIANCA Rob’s hands trembled around Victor’s throat but he didn’t squeeze harder. Not while the weight of Victor’s last words hung in the air like a slow-moving storm. My heart pounded so loud I couldn’t hear anything else. If Rob killed him, we’d lose any chance of finding his sister. If we let him live, we’d never know when he’d strike again. We heard gunshots and a bullet whizzed past us. Victor smirked even while blood dripped from his mouth. “You should run.” Rob hit his head on the concrete twice till he was knocked out and reached for my hand. “We have to go.” I didn’t hesitate. I grabbed the bag I had packed earlier and we ran out through the back of the villa, cutting through the trees behind the property. More bullet flew past us. It had to be Camilla or some of his soldiers. My phone buzzed in my pocket. One new message. Unknown Number “Wait for my car. Don’t speak. Don’t stop. Just get in.” The man I had texted immediately I saw the car pull into t

  • THE DEVIL’S CHOKEHOLD    BROKER BROKEN BONES

BIANCAVictor stepped out of the car and a sigh of relief escaped from my lips. Rob opened the door and Victor paused when he saw his state.“What the hell happened here?” he asked as he pulled Rob into a hug.“No time to explain. We’re leaving. You should leave too. Go back to China,” Rob said as he watched Victor hug me with a tight expression.“I just got back. What the fuck is going on?” Victor asked again.“The Broker. He and his friends played us. And we lost. So I’m taking us somewhere safer till we can fight back,” Rob said. The blood drained from Victor’s face very fast. “The Broker?”“Yes. The same one that killed my family and the same one you ran from like a pussy,” Rob spat.Victor stepped back. “Aren’t you running too now?”“No. I’m taking my girl somewhere safe,” Rob said and he paused to stare at me with that look that made my stomach twist in ways I hated and wanted at the same time.“Your girl? Like is it still an act or she’s your girl for real?” Victor asked. How d
