THE WOMAN HE BELIEVED

Riona’s POV

The first thing I asked for at the police station was to see my husband, not a lawyer, not family but Caelan.

Because surely this had to be a mistake. Someone had taken my phone. Someone had fabricated that footage. Someone had planted my fingerprints on a glass I had never touched and Caelan knew me.

He had known me for five years. He knew I hated confrontation. He knew I couldn’t stand the sight of blood. He knew I had never even raised my voice at Melania.

He should investigate. He should come in, look at the evidence and realize none of it made sense.

At least, that was what I kept telling myself. Two hours later, the interrogation room door opened.

Caelan walked in and my relief lasted exactly three seconds. He didn’t look like my husband.

He looked like the CEO of Wrenhold International. His expensive suit was immaculate. His expression was colder than the metal table between us. He sat down.

“Tell me exactly what happened.”

I stared at him, “You believe me, right?”

His jaw tightened, “I asked what happened.”

I swallowed, “I was at home, Caelan”

“Until what time?”

“I don’t know.”

“You left the house.”

“I went to the hotel earlier.”

His eyes sharpened, “Why?”

“You left some documents there after your meeting. I went to collect them.”

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Because it wasn’t important.”

“And you entered Melania’s suite?”

“No.”

His fingers tapped once against the table, “Security footage says otherwise.”

“I know what it says.”

“Then explain it.”

“I can’t.”

His gaze hardened, “I need more than that, Riona.”

I leaned forward, “Caelan, someone is framing me.”

He said nothing

“Look at me, baby”

He did.

“I swear, I didn't poison her.”

His expression didn’t change.

“I would never do that.”

“You expect me to believe that?” He said, slamming his hand on the desk.

The question knocked the air from my lungs, “You’re my husband.”

“And Melania is fighting for her life.”

“I know.”

“She could die.”

“I know!”

My voice cracked as I lowered it.

“I know she’s sick. I know you care about her. But I am sitting here accused of trying to kill her, and you’re looking at me like I’m some stranger.”

His eyes moved away. That hurt more than anger would have. He reached into his jacket and placed his phone on the table.

“Read this.”

A message appeared on the screen.

Stay away from Caelan, or next time you won’t wake up.

The sender was my number. My stomach dropped.

“No.”

“There are several more.”

He scrolled. Every message had been sent from my phone. Every threat was addressed to Melania.

“I didn’t send these.”

“Your number did.”

“Someone cloned it.”

“Convenient.”

I stared at him, “Why would I threaten her?”

“Because you’re angry.”

“I’m angry because my husband has been spending every spare moment with his first love!”

His expression darkened. I immediately regretted saying it but it was true.

“You’ve been protecting her since she returned,” I whispered.

“You canceled our anniversary for her. You stood beside her tonight while I was standing there with something important to tell you.”

“What were you going to tell me?”

My hand moved instinctively toward my stomach. I looked at him.

“I was going to tell you we’re having a baby.”

For the first time since he entered the room, Caelan froze. His eyes dropped to my stomach.

“What?”

“I took the test this morning.”

His face changed, only slightly. But I saw it. Something almost resembling pain. I pulled the folded pregnancy test photograph from my handbag with shaking fingers and placed it on the table.

“I wanted to surprise you tonight.”

He stared at it, “Riona…”

My throat tightened, “I was so excited.”

He didn’t touch the photograph, “Are you sure?”

“Yes.”

For one fragile second, I thought this was the moment he would finally come back to me. The moment he would remember us.

Our five years. Our plans. Our child. Then his phone rang. He looked at the screen.

Melania. He stood immediately. My hope shattered.

“What happened?”

His face changed as he listened.

“I’m coming.”

He turned toward the door. I stared at him.

“Caelan.”

He stopped, “She’s getting worse.”

“So, you’re leaving?”

“I have to.”

The first sob broke out of me before I could shut my mouth. It scraped my throat raw. I tried to say his name and only air came. Tears ran hot over my lips, into the salt already there.

“But I’m your wife.” I cried out, tears smeared when I dragged my sleeve across my nose. I hated how I sounded.

He looked at me, “And she’s sick.”

I stared at him, “I just told you I’m pregnant.”

His voice was cold. “I’m not deaf.”

Then he walked out again.

He chose her. Even now. Even after everything. I sat alone in the interrogation room until the door opened again. A detective entered carrying a tablet.

“We found another recording.”

He placed it in front of me. The footage showed a woman entering Melania’s hotel suite. My face was partially visible. My coat. My handbag. My height. Everything looked right.

I shook my head.

“That’s not me.”

The detective paused the footage, “She appears to enter at 8:42 p.m.”

“I was home.”

“Your phone was there too.”

“Then someone used it.”

He studied me, “Mrs. Wren, you understand how bad this looks?”

“No.”

I leaned forward.

“It looks impossible.”

He didn’t answer. The door opened again. Caelan returned. I looked at him desperately.

“Tell him.”

He remained standing.

“Tell him what?”

“That you know me.”

His face hardened, “I don’t know what you want me to say.”

“That I didn’t do this.”

He looked at the evidence scattered across the table, “Wrenhold’s legal team is already handling the situation.”

I stared at him, “Legal team?”

“Yes.”

“You’re talking about lawyers?”

“I’m talking about protecting the company.”

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

“What about protecting me?”

His silence answered. He pulled an envelope from his jacket. He placed it on the table. I looked at it.

“What is that?”

“Divorce papers.”

Everything inside me went still.

“You’re joking.”

“No.”

“You’re divorcing me?”

“This situation is becoming bigger than both of us.”

“You mean bigger than our marriage.”

His expression remained cold, “If you sign now, I’ll make sure you’re financially secure.”

I stared at the envelope. Money. That was what he was offering me. Not trust. Not protection. Not even the benefit of doubt. But money.

“You want to pay me to disappear?”

“I want this handled quietly.”

“I didn’t poison her.”

“I know what you’re saying.”

“You don’t believe me.”

He didn’t answer. My fingers closed around the edge of the table, “Then I won’t sign.”

His eyes hardened, “Think carefully.”

“No.”

“If you refuse, this becomes a criminal case.”

“It already is.”

“Then don’t expect me to save you.”

He turned to leave. I watched my husband walk away from me for the third time that night. Then the detective suddenly stepped into his path.

“Mr. Wren.”

Caelan stopped. The detective held up a sealed evidence bag.

“There is one more development.”

He placed it on the table. Inside was a torn piece of white fabric. Dark red stains covered the edge. My breath caught.

“What is that?”

The detective looked directly at me, “Your blood.”

I stared at him.

“No.”

“We found it in Melania’s bedroom.”

Caelan slowly turned toward me. The detective’s voice dropped, “And that changes everything.”

I looked at the blood-stained fabric then at my husband. Right now, I couldn’t explain how it had gotten there and someone had gone to terrifying lengths to make sure it did.

PRICE OF INFORMATIONRiona’s POVKieran was looking at my photograph as if it had just spoken. Not at the hospital bracelet still circling my wrist. Not at the divorce papers I had folded so many times that the crease was beginning to split. Not at the woman who had lost her baby, her marriage, and almost everything she had once believed about herself in the space of a few hours.“What is that company?” I asked again. His gaze lifted from the image. “I told you. It’s connected to something I’ve been investigating.”“That isn’t an answer.”“No,” he agreed. “It isn’t.”His calm admission irritated me more than a lie might have. Caelan used to speak that way when he wanted a conversation to end without admitting he had refused to answer. He would look at me with that composed, superior expression and make me feel unreasonable for asking questions about my own life.“Then tell me what you know,” I said.Kieran leaned back in his chair. He looked entirely at ease, but there was nothing r

THE STRANGER WHO HATED MY HUSBANDKieran’s POVThe woman standing behind the airport glass looked like she had run out of places to go. I noticed her because everyone else was pretending not to. She stood beside a black suitcase, one hand wrapped tightly around the handle, the other clutching a folder against her chest. Her clothes were expensive but her face was not. There was exhaustion under her eyes, and a hospital bracelet still circled her wrist. Then I noticed the black sedan. It had stopped outside the terminal. The same man who had been sitting in it for several minutes stepped out. He looked at the woman. She looked at him and something in her posture changed.I had spent enough years around powerful men to recognize the difference between someone being watched and someone being hunted.I walked toward the terminal doors. The woman immediately stepped back when she saw me.“Why are you following me?”I stopped, “I could ask you the same thing.”“I don’t know you.”“Good. Tha

SIGN YOUR NAME AND DISAPPEARRiona’s POVBy sunrise, the whole city knew my name. Not because of anything I had achieved. Not because of the properties I had helped Wrenhold acquire or the projects I had spent years rescuing from failure.I was simply Caelan Wren’s jealous wife. The woman who had allegedly tried to poison his first love. My face appeared across news websites. My wedding photograph was everywhere. One headline called me the scorned wife who snapped. Another asked whether I had used my pregnancy to manipulate Caelan. I stared at the screen until the words blurred. My pregnancy. Our baby. Even that had become evidence against me. A guard walked past the holding room and glanced at his phone. I heard him whisper to another officer.“She’s pregnant?”“Apparently.”“Then why would she do something like that?”I lowered my head. Because nobody cared whether I had done it. They had already decided who I was. The Wren family had released a statement before I had even been form

I wiped the tears from my cheeks and stared at my reflection in the dark window.Pale face, dry face, trembling hands.. Very perfect. I reached for the glass of water beside my bed and took a slow sip. Then I smiled. Riona Vesper had finally learned what it felt like to lose. She had been wearing my life for five years. My man. My home. My name beside his. My place in the Wren family. Everything that should have belonged to me and now she was sitting in a police station, accused of trying to kill me.I had never poisoned myself. That would have been stupid. The pills had been harmless enough to make me collapse, but the real poison had been the story surrounding them. Riona’s fingerprints on the glass. The threatening messages from her number. The footage of her entering my suite. The blood. Every piece had been placed exactly where it needed to be. I had planned most of i

THE ANNIVERSARY SURPRISERiona’s POVThe pregnancy test was hidden under the silk lining of my handbag when Caelan canceled our anniversary dinner.“I can’t make it tonight.”I stared at his message for several seconds. Tonight was our fifth anniversary. I had spent three days planning everything down to the smallest detail. The restaurant had been booked privately. His favorite wine was already waiting. I had even arranged for the chef to prepare the lemon pastry he used to order when we were dating and tucked inside my handbag was a second surprise. Two pink lines. I pressed my palm against the bag.For five years, I had told myself that the quiet distance between us was temporary. Caelan was busy. Wrenhold was expanding. His responsibilities had multiplied.Tonight was supposed to be different. I had imagined the look on his face when I told him he was going to be a father. Instead, my phone lit up again.Caelan: Something happened. I need to go to Saint Orison. My fingers tighte
