LOGINKELLY POV
The tears streamed down my chin as I hopped into the taxi. I couldn't even stop myself from sobbing like a child.
The driver was stealing glances.
at me, but he couldn't ask if I was okay. This is New York; not everyone is okay with their lives, and a sobbing girl in his taxi shouldn't be his problem.
I wiped the tears trying to figure out what I would say to Holly or Dain. I really hope Holly is alright, because I don't understand why she will let me out of her sight.
Was she drunk too?
Or is it just my fault that I went back to the handsome stranger I met at the bar? I'm such a dumb idiot.
All these wouldn't have happened if I hadn't been drinking like that; my head is pounding and my stomach rumbles loudly enough for the driver to hear.
I didn't have the time to be embarrassed because I was busy reflecting on my actions. "Here." The driver tossed me a chocolate bar, and I grabbed it, tearing it open.
My eyes caught my reflection in the side mirror, and I looked terrible with mascara smeared under my eyes and cheeks. I sighed, taking a bite from the chocolate bar.
I should think about how Holly will react to what I'm going to tell her; I don't think I can keep a secret from my best friend.
Not even this kind of secret; it might come back to bite me in the ass, and I can't have that.
The taxi halted in front of my shitty apartment building; the caretaker refused to redo the painting, and the fading gray paints were starting to fade.
I reached for a couple of notes in my bag and stretched it towards the driver. "Thanks for the chocolate bar; I added money inside too," I said.
"No worries, Miss, you can keep it; you look like you'll be needing it more than n me." He shrugged, and I sighed before hopping out of the taxi.
He thinks I'm a hooker. With my short dress and my ruffled appearance, I really look like one, and crying in his taxi also gave him the impression that I had a bad night.
I headed for my apartment, and I found the door unlocked. A sigh of relief escaped me; this meant Holly is alright except someone broke in.
I shut the door after me and Holly were sitting on the couch eating an apple. We share the apartment together, and she pays half while I pay the rest.
We both also have separate rooms so we can have privacy. It's a cozy little place, but we manage.
"Where the hell did you disappear to last night?" She asked as soon as she saw me, and I didn't have the courage to reply to her immediately.
I went to take a bottle of water from the refrigerator, and I took a long sip. I set it aside before going to take a seat beside her.
"I messed up," I mumbled, sinking my fingers into my hairline. I was so tired and fed up with everything.
"What do you mean? Where were you last night? I looked for you,” she said, and I sighed.
"I had a one-night stand with someone; I swear I didn't mean to cheat on Dain, but I was so drunk and I didn't know who or what I was doing until I woke up this morning,” I confessed.
She didn't say anything for a whole minute, then she started laughing. "Come on, Kel, you are better than this; you should stop making crappy jokes; it's not funny." She laughed, and when she saw the look on my face, she paused.
"Oh. You are serious." She furrowed her brows, and I nodded meekly.
"I was wasted, and I don't even remember what happened," I groaned, resting my back on the couch.
"What do you mean you don't remember what happened? You don't remember how you got out of the club or how you slept with a stranger?" She questioned.
"Jeez, I just said I don't; I don't even remember anything. I was so confused, and I didn't know how I ended up there. I was worried about you," I responded with a tired yawn.
"I guess you had a long night with him then; I can't wait for you to tell me all the e details." She enunciated way too calmly for my liking; I mean, she's supposed to be screaming at me or at least judging me for being so stupid.
"Is everything alright, Holl?" I asked, and she arched her brows.
"Why wouldn't it be?" She asked back, and I got worried about sitting up properly.
"You are not mad at me for making bad choices?"
"Why should I be? You are making it easy for me." She smiled and tossed her half-eaten apple on the floor.
Wait a minute, what is that supposed to mean?
The door to her bedroom opened, and my jaw dropped when Dain walked out with a towel wrapped around his waist. He shut the door behind him and turned; it was truly him.
What is he doing in my best friend's room? With a towel?
"Holly, you need to fix your faucet; it's no longer working." He paused when he saw me, and I glared at him.
"What were you doing in there? I have a bathroom," I stated, and he scoffed.
"What does it look like I was doing in there? I don't need your bathroom when my girlfriend has one," he said and walked up to Holly, then he kissed her.
My boyfriend kissed my best friend in front of me!
What exactly is going on here?
Am I hallucinating or what?
"He's right, he doesn't need your bathroom when he can use mine," Holly smirked, and I stood up.
"What the hell are you talking about?" I demanded angrily.
"Surprise? Are you shocked? You shouldn't be because while you were out there banging someone else, I was busy with Dain. We had a wonderful time just like always," she giggled.
Like always?
This is a joke, right?
I turned to Dain, and he was staring at me with a look of disgust on his face.
"This is a joke, right? Please tell me you haven't been sleeping with her behind my back," I pleaded as tears filled my eyes; my chest was becoming stuffy and I couldn't breathe properly.
"And if I say that I was? Is that what you want—the truth? Yes, I have, and I'm in love with her, babe." He mocked, and I sniffed.
"It's over between us; I regret ever knowing the both of you," I glared at Holly.
"I hope you have a good life with him." I grabbed my purse and veered, but Dain stood in the way, obstructing me from going to the door.
"Not so fast, Kelly!" Holly said from behind me, and I gasped as I felt cold steel on my back.
Is that a knife?
"Sit down, let's have a little chat," she ordered.
Kelly's POV Our car rolled to a stop right In front of the supreme court. Daniella stepped out with a baby cart. She opened it up and put Ivy inside. I stepped out with Camille bay my side. We exchanged smiles and walked into the court. Alex's car approached a few minutes later and he walked into the court room, seating a few seats across from me.The courtroom was filled with quiet murmurs from all walks of life. I could feel the tension in the air. I smiled at Camille, as we made our way to the front. Daniella sat close to me, rocking Ivy gently in her cart while giving me a reassuring smile. Daniella was like a precious gem. She played the role of a mother perfectly to Ivy for five days. I touched her thighs gratefully.I glanced across the room and found Alex already watching me, his presence calming my nerves. He gave me a small nod and then smiled as if telling me I wasn’t alone. Of course I knew I wasn't alone in this. I had him, our pumpkin, Daniella and Camille.Taking a d
Kelly's POV One week later.“I am confident I can hold her, Alex. It's been a week and I have added four kilograms to my former weight. I am strong enough.” I sat up straighter in the hospital bed, my voice filled with quiet determination. Alex's worried eyes softened, but he wasn't convinced. He hesitated, hovering close while taking in every detail of my face. I could tell from his soulful brown eyes that he was still worried I might break. I stretched out my arms expectantly, my heart pounding as Ivy’s little giggle filled the room. “Please, Alex. I am strong enough to hold her. You worry too much.”Finally, Alex sighed and placed her gently in my arms. Warmth spread through me instantly. It was electrifying and tears were pricking my eyes. I kissed her soft cheek, whispering, “Mommy’s here now, pumpkin.”Ivy giggled and I hugged her, sniffing her natural fragrance. “Today Martha is hearing at the court by noon. I would be attending with my lawyer,” Alex said firmly, his voice
Kelly's POVThe gun shot rang out, loud and deafening, echoing through the walls like thunder. My whole body froze, my feet rooted beneath me, my ears ringing as the smell of smoke filled the air. I squeezed my eyes shut, certain that the bullet was aimed at me and that this was probably the end of the world for me. But when I slowly opened my eyes only to realize I was still standing. With a trembling hand, I reached for my temple and touched it, no wound, no pain, no blood. Wait…..what?Why am I still standing?Who was the gunshot for?.I turned slightly and there was the almighty Adrian staggering back while clutching his chest. Fresh blood seeped through his shirt as his gun slipped from his hand.Relief and shock wrecked my body at once.I am alive!I am alive!I shouted in my head and without thinking, I bolted forward, my legs moving based on my instinct and without warning, I threw myself into Alex’s arms. His arms wrapped around me instantly, strong and steady, as if he
Kelly's POVThe twisting of the door knob forced me out of unconsciousness. The door creaked and Adrian stepped in, holding a plate of food. He placed it nonchalantly on the floor, the content spilling on the floor. I stared at the unrecognizable substance in the plate that was both nauseous and disgusting I raised my head, our gaze locked.“Let me go, Adrian.” I muttered with the falling strength I had in me.This was my fifth day in captivity without food and barely a few drops of water to quench and sustain me. My meals were always served at the same time, twice a day but I couldn't bring myself to eat it. It couldn't be poisonous and was highly unhealthy.Adrian grabbed a handful of my hair.“Shut up and eat, your arrogant fool.”Adrian’s grip on my hair tightened, but I refused to let him see the pain in my eyes. My lips curled into a weak, bitter smile. “Take your poison and eat it yourself, Adrian. I would rather die of hunger than to swallow a crumb from this filthy prison o
Alex's POV The next day“Please be safe. Don't return without Kelly. We don't know what Adrian is capable of. I hope to see you soon. Ivy is also excited.” Daniella smiled sorrowfully while ivy wiggled my arms as she played with her hair.“Don’t worry, Dani. I will bring Kelly back. We are going to the address Adrian sent to us. I won't return without Kelly. I would rather die than leave without her. You have my word” I said firmly, brushing my hand over Ivy’s tiny fingers.Ivy giggled, tugging at my shirt like she always did. I felt a pang in my heart. These moments were moments I would forever cherish. I forced a smile. Daniella’s eyes glistened with worry, but she nodded, trusting me.“I believe every word you say, Alex.”I leaned closer, kissing Ivy’s forehead gently while whispering softly.“Daddy will bring Mommy back, pumpkin. That's a promise, okay? So be good to me before mom comes back and takes you away from me.” I kissed her forehead again. She babbled in her baby voice l
Alex's POV“Hello, pumpkin. How are you doing? Do you miss your mom?”. I asked ivy , scooping her into my arms She blinked up at me with those innocent eyes that reminded me so much of Kelly. Daniella had given her a warm bath and had made sure that she was comfy in her singlet and pink Kitty shorts. Her tiny fingers grabbed at my shirt as if holding onto it for comfort. Tears welled up in my eyes knowing that I had failed her as a father by not being able to protect her favourite person.“Don’t worry, sweetheart. Daddy is doing everything in his power to bring Mommy back home to you. Daddy won't stop until Mom cuddles you in her arms,” I whispered, kissing her foreheadIvy let out a small giggle totally oblivious of what I was saying but I knew deep down that she could feel her mother’s absence. She could feel Kelly's absences but couldn't express it in words. This was the fourth day since Kelly disappeared and life hasn't been easy for me. Taking care of Ivy would have been a huge
