"Is that jacket yours in the back? You cold or something?" Gahn asked.

"Nope," she replied, her face practically fused to the window as she stared at the shops lining the main street.

"Most of those stores are company-owned, Dahlia. Now that you’ve shifted, you’ll recognize our people, you’ll feel them," he explained.

"Feel them? Oh, I’ve been feeling a lot of things lately," she shot back.

He grinned. "Like what?"

"Never mind that," Dahlia said, waving him off. "You go handle your business; I’ll handle mine. We’ll meet up for lunch in an hour, yeah?"

"You just turned Bram down, and now you’re offering to buy me lunch?" Gahn teased.

"Fine, lunch is on me," she said with a shrug.

He kissed her, and she didn’t pull away or hit him.“Luca,” she murmured, “I still need to finish this…”“Can I kiss you again?” he whispered.“You already did,” she replied, her cheeks flushing.“And you didn’t slap me,” he pointed out.“Well, it wasn’t bad enough to warrant one,” she said, a small smile tugging at her lips.He chuckled. “Jade, I really like you. You’re funny.” His lips brushed hers lightly. She gazed up at him, her hands resting against his chest. “You should finish getting dressed” she said, though his hands stayed firmly on her waist. Luca knocked lightly before pushing the door open. Jade was sprawled on the bed, surrounded by books and papers, her laptop still on. He moved some of the clutter aside, shut the laptop, and set it out of the way before draping a blanket over her. She stirred slightly, murmuring, “Daddy… help me… daddy…” Luca hesitated, unsure whether to wake her or leave her be. He stood there for a moment, watching her like some weirdo. God, she’s gorgeous. Okay, now I’m officially a creep. He shook his head and slipped out of the room.Jade got dressed, grabbed her nurse bag, and headed to Luca’s bedroom. She knocked and walked in, only to find him standing there in his boxers. “Oh, shit, sorry, sir!” she blurted, spinning around.“Morning, Jade. And stop calling me ‘sir.’ It’s just Luca,” he said, pulling on his pants. “Alright, ready. How’s school going?”“It’s fine. Challenging… pausing, your wound’s healing well,” she replied with a small smile.“Good, because I’ve got a fight in Venice tonight

Gahn paced in front of the hotel door, his thoughts spiraling.I hurt her, and now she’s with Bram, who actually loves her… damn it, what was I thinking? She waited for me, and I… screw it. He knocked.Dahlia answered, still fully dressed. Huh, he thought, not surprised.“Yes, Gahn? Something wrong?” she asked flatly.“No, nothing’s wrong. Why Bram?” he shot back.“Why the maid?” she countered, eyebrow raised. He shoved past her into the room. Empty. “Where’s he hiding?”Dahlia smirked. “Got what I wanted. He’s gone. Physical, right?”Gahn stared at her. “It was a setup. I get it now.”“I don’t play games, Gahn. Leave,” she said, her tone icy as she swung the door open.A guy appeared. “Hey, babe,” he said, kissing her cheek. “Sorry I’m late.” He glanced at Gahn, sizing him up before stepping inside.Dahlia slammed the door before Gahn could say another word.Gahn leaned against the wall, waiting for the guy to emerge. After an hour and a half, the man finally stepped into the hallway

Portofino, ItalyJade eyed the two urns on the dining table; her cheeks wet with tears. Jackson squeezed her hand. “You don’t have to figure this out today.”“I mean it, thank you. The job starts tomorrow, and I’ll pay you back for all of this.”“Jade, you don’t owe me a damn thing,” Jackson said, his voice steady. “Just promise me you’ll find something to help you unwind. This stress isn’t good for you.”“The gym?” she asked, half-laughing, half-sobbing.“Sure, whatever works. Come here,” he said, pulling her into a tight hug. He grabbed his bag and headed for the door.Leaving her felt like hell, but the pack was waiting. Jackson was split down the middle.Portofino general hospitalMr. Marelli, this is off the record, but the girl’s local, probably crashing with someone here.Luca stormed out, pissed. Oslo, NorwayDahlia closed her eyes, but no amount of time could fill the void Jade’s left in their lives. Thirteen years, and not a single clue of her existence. The steward announced the landing. Gahn had drifted away, spending most of his time in Oslo, though she knew his pain ran deep. The car dropped her at the mansion. The maid opened the door.“Ms. Dahlia,” the maid said, staring at her with wide eyes, clearly startled.“Where’s Gahn?” Dahlia asked.“I’ll go get him,” the maid offered.“No, I’ll go upstairs,” Dahlia replied. She climbed the stairs, and as she neared the bedroom, the sound of a woman’s moans reached her ears. She pushed the door open slowly. There was Gahn, thrusting into a woman with abandon. Dahlia walked in and took a seat in the chair by the door. When they finally finished, the woman spotted her and let out a sharp gasp.Gahn turned, saw Dahlia sitting there, and laughed. He looked at the woman. “Get out. Now.”He pulled on his shorts and pants. “What did y

Ten years later…."Papa, come on, don’t be like that," Jade said. "Mom’s getting an award. She finally locked up that big-shot gangster. Honestly, I think she’s tougher than you."He sighed. "Yeah, she probably is."Jade grinned and threw her arms around him. "Love you, Papa.""My beautiful girl," he said, holding her tight. "I’m so proud of you. I don’t deserve you or your mom.""Papa, what’s gotten into you today?" Jade asked, pulling back to look at him."Just feeling emotional," he admitted. "But only at home. Can’t have the guys at the station seeing me like this."As if on cue, a sergeant walked in. "Sir, ready?" He winked at Jade."We’re ready," Georgio said, taking Jade’s hand."We should grab some flowers on the way," she suggested."No time," Georgio replied.Jade shrugged and plucked a few roses from their garden. Then she spotted a perfect one on the neighbor’s side. As far as she knew, no one lived there. She hopped the fence, snipped the rose, and suddenly a shadow loome
