Dahlia approached Mr. Mel's desk. "Could I be assigned to someone else, please?"

"Jane needs to learn her lesson, and you've become valuable to me. I'll mention your promotion at the executive meeting. They're bound to hire you soon."

Jane crossed her arms. "I refuse to take orders from an intern."

"Then pack your things," Mr. Mel said coldly. "Consider yourself lucky I'm not firing you outright."

Dahlia stuffed her belongings into her backpack and hurried toward the elevator. Inside, Flora and Jane stepped in behind her. As the doors sealed them in, Jane grabbed a fistful of Dahlia's hair. Dahlia's palm connected with Jane's cheek in a sharp slap.

"Don't touch me!" Dahlia's voice echoed in the small space. Flora snickered.

"We'll make you regret this," she whispered as the doors opened and other employees entered. At lobby floor, Dahlia bolted, not stopping until she reached home.
