Louisa was surprised to hear laughter as she stepped into her house that afternoon.... or should I say dusk. Her watch read 5:00 pm; definitely dusk. You could even call it evening.
Her mum and Isa and a pretty chubby girl who she was assuming was Melissa were in the kitchen making dinner."Hey guys." She spoke out in a bid to get their attention, and it worked."Mummy!!!" Isa exclaimed and with a run, crushed her mother in a hug.Melissa laughed. "Aren't you like too old for this Is?"Meanwhile Isa was telling her mother in an undertone, "Be nice mum, please."Turning to face her friend, the teenager shrugged. "I know I'm too old for that, but I'm mummy's only baby and if I don't do these little things, no one would."Isabel and Melissa burst into laughter at the horrified faces of Louisa and her mother.Mrs. Mensah shook her head before joining in on the laughter. Wiping a tear from her eye, she said, “Jesus Lou, she's even more savage than you were back then."Louisa found it funny but decided to make her daughter pay by guilt tripping her. "Is that how you feel Isa?" She asked with tears in her eyes. That's when Isabel noticed that it was no longer a joke. "Oh shit mum, I'm so sorry... I didn't mean it that way." She wrapped her arms around her mother who in turn looked at Mrs. Mensah and Melissa with a smug smile on her face. The two burst out laughing again and Isabel noticed her folly.Louisa laughed, "It seems like I've still got it, mum. Anyway how can I help?"Mrs. Mensah's famous glare returned. "How about you go change your clothes and pick your stuff lying around on the sofa first?" Louisa grumbled under her breath "But this is my house.""I heard that Louisa, and I'm still your mother." Mrs. Mensah shouted back.Dinner was delicious and the atmosphere was warm and cozy. They had plantain and spinach stew that night and conversation flowed across the table easily without Melissa feeling left out. After dinner, Mrs. Mensah and Isa offered to do the dishes and Louisa suggested that Melissa join her to watch TV. for a while. Isa gave her mum a pleading look and Louisa nodded. She got the message loud and clear. "Go easy on my friend, mum." And she'd do just that."So how many siblings do you have Mel? Is it okay if I call you that?" She asked unsure."Oh yes, Miss Mensah. Mel is fine. And to answer your question I'm an only child." Melissa smiled as she answered.Louisa gave a small nod. "I know how that feels like. I'm an only child myself and back then I used to keep to myself all the time. It must be nice to have a friend like Isabel." Shifting a little in her seat to feel more comfortable, she continued. "Now I know you know why I asked you to join me here, Melissa."The chubby girl's head hung low in shame. "I do, Miss Mensah. And I don't think you'd understand me. No one does, the only one who did ....." She stopped all of a sudden. Shaking her head, she continued."Never mind. If my parents get to hear about this, they'd only call it a ploy for more attention. You know sometimes I swear they value their reputation more than they do me. I don't know how it happens though, the feeling just comes to me and later when it goes away, I feel so ashamed."Melissa's voice tuned out into a soft whisper. "I get depressed most of the time and changing schools seemed to have worsened the situation. The children over there are so mean, and all I want to do is to belong somewhere."Louisa threw her arms around the teenager. After a moment of silence, she continued, "Make yourself at home then, because now that we've got you here with us, we'll never let you go. You can always belong here with us."The duo wiped away tears from under their eyes.It had really been an emotional moment. But it had to end because Isabel and Mrs. Mensah seemed to have finished with cleaning up.The two young girls went upstairs to continue with their project and the adults stayed back in the hall to watch TV. Louisa filled her mum in on her conversation with Melissa and after she was done, the old woman sighed in sadness. "Such a poor child."Around 8pm, a sleek Mercedes pulled up on the drive way and out stepped a woman who seemed to be in her sixties. She wasn't the one driving though; a chauffeur was manning the wheels. She rang the doorbell to the main house and waited.Louisa opened the door with a smile on her face. She was surprised though, because the way Melissa described her parents, she assumed her mum was going to be uptight and more snobbish. But the woman standing in front of her was simply, though exquisitely dressed."Good evening." Louisa greeted."You must be Melissa's mum, Do come in, she'll be down soon."The woman gave a short laugh. "Oh, I'm actually her nanny. Her parents are barely home as it is." She stepped into the house and took a seat as Louisa went to get her something to drink. Handing the woman a glass of water, she asked, "How close are you to Melissa ma'am?"The older woman sighed, "Not as close as we used to be. My dear Mel barely talks to me anymore. You see, she accidentally heard me tell her parents that I had a chronic illness and ever since, she hasn't really spoken to me unless she absolutely has to."Louisa nodded slowly. That really was a lot to take in. She could feel for the poor girl. She spoke after a while, "Well talk to her. Try harder to get her talking because she's facing issues and although we're here for her, she needs someone at home too.""Yes, Miss Mensah. I'll give it my best. It was nice meeting you. You seem like a lovely woman."Their conversation halted when the girls made their way downstairs. Melissa hugged her friend and said goodbye to Louisa and Mrs. Mensah, then she followed her nanny, who's name, Louisa learnt was Mrs. Amoah, out of the house.Isabel stayed downstairs for a while, hanging out with her mum and grand mum till it was her bedtime. The two women headed to their rooms about an hour later."Well I'm glad the hard work is over." Naa Larley said as they spoke via face time."You've worked on Melissa, your relationship with Isabel is going strong. Business is going well. Get to bed, please. Before you still end up looking like a panda even with no worries." She teased.Louisa laughed. "Oh but Naa, no one can be a hundred percent free of worries. There's still a lo-""Ah ah ah. Quiet." Naa interrupted."Don't think so much. A day at a time, alright Lou?"Louisa grinned. "Alright. A day at a time."REGGIE AND CHRIS- New Beginnings “So you’re trying to tell me that our child is perfectly fine?” Chris asked in complete confusion. “Yes, Mr. Ayettey…” The doctor assured him with a wide grin. “But, I thought bleeding was a sign of a miscarriage,” Reggie interrupted, equally confused. “It is, but that is not always the case, Mrs. Ayettey—” “Oh, uh… we’re not married.” She corrected, a light blush coating her cheeks… one that had Chris grinning like an awestruck idiot. “My apologies, then. Anyway, as I was saying… bleeding isn’t always a sign of a miscarriage. It can be sign of implantation of the embryo in the uterus, like yours was… there are other reasons for bleeding during pregnancy, but I wouldn’t want to bore you to death with all of that.” He finished. “But I thought implantation and everything that had to do with that occurred in the first trimester?” Reggie asked after a moment’s thought. “Yes, great question.”
REGGIE AND CHRIS- BleedingTwo whole months. Two whole months since the incident, and things were just as tensious as before. So much so that Chris was already so full of regret. If someone had told him that his short outburst would have launched such a devastating aftermath, he probably would have called them a liar, but things were actually that bad.Reggie did not talk to him.Like at all.She didn’t eat his foods, choosing instead to live off fruits and vegetables, and other stuff that didn’t require much any complex skill. The tension had been so unbearable that Chris had gotten a housemaid to come live with them. He was the one who had ruined their budding relationship,She didn’t have to suffer for it?Fortunately, Reggie had hit it off with the maid, Janet… so at least Chris didn’t have to worry about that aspect of their life anymore. He had someon
REGGIE AND CHRIS- Beautiful start, ugly endChris had always thought that Deidre was a woman! So he hadn’t even bothered to meet her after allowing her access into his house. You can imagine his surprise therefore when he suddenly heard purely masculine laughter wafting into his study. He had been surprised and curious, and so he had decided to go and take a look, hiding his intentions under the guise of wanting to know what Reggie wanted to have for lunch. There sat Deidre, a complete man all right, but with an interesting twist.Chris slowly felt his anxiety ebb somewhat as he made his way to the kitchen to get started on lunch.Deidre was no competition? The revelation that he had been worried that Reggie might have another love interest after William really unsettled the man though. What exactly did it mean?He honestly didn’t care. Really, he didn’t.Liar.
REGGIE AND CHRIS- DeidreReggie tried to keep her cool as she watched Deidre alight from his rickety car.If someone ever told her that she’d be this excited to hear and see the car that had annoyed her pretty much over the past two years, Reggie would have called the person a serious liar and probably would have had them charged for treason, or maybe worse… like cast into the dungeons. But here she was, truly fawning over it, and barely being able to do something about it.“So you dump all the work on me and take off on some Cinderella adventure, leaving me to deal with the real world, huh?” Deidre started dramatically as soon as he stepped out of the car. “See? I had always known you were a bitch.”Reggie laughed and wrapped her arms around her assistant in a hug. “Oh, Deidre… what a dramatic way to tell me you have missed me.” She teased. “You know, you could have just said the words
REGGIE AND CHRIS- Thinking things, seeing thingsFor the first time since she got here, Chris spent the entire day with her!Well, it wasn’t exactly the entire day since it wasn’t even two o’clock yet. What Reggie meant was that even after they had had breakfast, the handsome hunk still hung around the living room like some ghost… instead of locking himself in his study like he usually did, even though there was some kind of tension in the air after his outburst about liking how she enjoyed his meals. That tension had put a bit of a strain on the flow of their conversations, so they weren’t really talking. Plus, Reggie had her phone back so she was much more focused on letting the few people she had in her life know that she hadn’t vanished off the face of the earth. She was pretty sure that her mother had kept most of them posted, but just a text wasn’t bad, and so that was exactly what she was d
REGGIE AND CHRIS- The ruined breakfastReggie had never been this bored in her life!It had already been a week since she agreed to her baby daddy’s crazy proposition and she could swear that she was already starting to regret the decision. You see, Reggie had always felt that the housewife kind of life was never meant for her.And the past week had proved her completely right! But at least things would have been a bit more bearable if she was seeing said baby daddy often. The man mostly kept to himself, meeting her in the dining room for breakfast and lunch and supper only, and then shutting himself in his study for the rest of the day.He was with her in the house, but it for sure didn’t feel like it to the supermodel.Plus, without her phone or laptop, Reggie had only television to keep her company through the lonely times, and she wasn’t much of a TV person so you can just imagine how lonely she
