Chapter 22

I watched in suspicion as Khaos helped Duke rebuild the walls he had shattered with his fists.

What was his motive here?

Why had he singled me out?

How did he know about my past?

Was I really that easy to read?

Duke certainly had no idea – but was that because he was too close to the situation? Too emotionally involved to be able to form a reasonable, logical excuse for what happened?

Khaos had been here five days and already he had gotten under my skin, sussing me out in a way that nobody had been able to do before. How did he do that? How did he crawl into somebody’s minds and figure out their secrets? The ones that should stay dead and hidden, lest they spill out and ruin the few good things in one’s life.
