I didn’t stop running until my legs began to shake.

The forest stretched endlessly around me, branches clawing at my arms, roots catching at my feet, the cold morning air burning in my lungs. Each breath felt sharp. Each step heavier than the last.

But I didn’t slow down.

If I stopped, I would think.

And if I thought, I might turn back.
