Aurelia took a step backward.

“No,” she whispered. “That cannot be Darian.”

Lyra moved toward the entrance, but Kael caught her arm.

“Wait.”

The knock came again, harder this time.

“Aurelia,” the voice called. “I know you're in there.”

Liora had gone strangely quiet. She stood beside the altar, staring at the door as though she were watching something nobody else could see.

Lyra squeezed her hand.

“Stay behind me.”

When the door finally opened, Darian stood beneath the fading evening light. His

The Twin Nobody ClaimedThe Twin Nobody ClaimedFor several seconds, nobody moved.Lyra looked from Aurelia to Darian, waiting for one of them to explain how another set of twins had become entangled in a family already torn apart by secrets.“Elara had a twin?” she repeated.Aurelia nodded slowly. “They were born three days before Elena gave birth to you and Liora. My daughter was named Elara. Her sister was named Eveline.”“Where is Eveline now?”“I don't know.”Darian gave a bitter laugh. “That's the problem with this family. Everyone has a missing daughter, and somehow I'm always the one expected to explain it.”Lyra turned on him. “You could start by telling the truth.”He met her gaze, but his expression remained guarded.“I will. But you need to understand something first. Elara and Eveline were not ordinary children in the eyes of the council. Their birth records were altered before they were a year old. One was registered under Aurelia's name. The other was registered under a

His shirt was torn, and a dark bruise covered one side of his face. There was dried blood near his collar, but he remained on his feet.Behind him stood Rowan, looking thoroughly displeased.“He insisted on coming here,” Rowan explained. “I thought you should hear what he had to say before deciding whether to throw him back into a cell.”Darian barely acknowledged him. His eyes were fixed on Aurelia. For a long moment, neither spoke. Then Aurelia crossed the chapel and slapped him.The sound echoed

  • THE LUNA HE TOOK FOR GRANTED   Chapter 62: The Secret Aurelia Kept.

"Aurelia?”Lyra stared at her sister, waiting for an explanation that would make sense of everything. The woman had spent years hiding from the council. She had helped Elena and Elias, survived the destruction of the old alliance, and returned Lyra to her mother when everyone else believed the child had been lost. Now Liora was suggesting that Aurelia had once been known by another name.“How do you know?” Lyra asked.Liora shook her head, pressing her fingers against her temple. “I don't know how to explain it. I remember a room with blue curtains. Mama was there, and Aurelia stood beside a window. Mama called her Elara.”Lyra turned toward Kael.He looked as confused as she felt.“Aurelia has never mentioned having a daughter,” he said.“Perhaps because she was never allowed to acknowledge her,” Rowan suggested. The words settled heavily between them.Lyra folded Darian's message and slipped it into her pocket. “We're going to the old chapel in Riverhaven. If someone knows what happ

The Daughter Nobody RememberedThe passage was so narrow that Lyra could barely walk without brushing her shoulders against the damp stone walls. Behind her, Liora stumbled twice, and each time Lyra reached back to steady her.Neither of them spoke until the noise from the hidden room faded. Then Liora whispered, “Lyra, what did that man mean?”Lyra kept moving. “Which part?”“The daughter of Elara.”She had been asking herself the same question.Darian had said Elara was their grandmother's sister. The stranger had insisted that Elara's daughter was the one they wanted. Yet everyone believed Elara had died without leaving children.Someone was lying.Possibly everyone.“I don't know yet,” Lyra admitted. “But we'll find out.”They reached a wooden door at the end of the passage. Lyra pushed against it, and it opened onto a deserted storage shed behind the abandoned building. Afternoon light slipped through cracks in the roof, illuminating old baskets and broken furniture.Liora emerge

“Who is Elara Voss?”Lyra kept her eyes on Darian, refusing to let him escape the question. The document trembled slightly in her hands, but she forced herself to keep reading the name.Elara Voss.Another woman carrying her family's surname. Another piece of a past everyone seemed determined to bury.Darian rubbed a hand over his face.“She was your grandmother's younger sister.”Lyra blinked. “My grandmother?”“Your mother's mother. Elara disappeared before Elena was old enough to understand what had happened. The family was told she died during a border attack.”“And you knew about her?”“I knew the name. I never met her.”“Then why are you frightened?”His silence answered before he did.“Because Elara wasn't supposed to be on that document.”Liora moved beside Lyra, studying the paper. “Maybe she helped Daddy.”Darian turned sharply toward her.“Why would you say that?”Liora frowned, as though the answer were obvious. “Because I remember her.”Lyra's fingers tightened around the

The trapdoor slammed shut above them.Lyra spun around.Darian stood at the entrance of the hidden room, one hand resting against the old wooden frame. He looked older than the last time she had seen him, but there was nothing weak about the way he watched them. His eyes moved from Lyra to Liora. Then back to Lyra.“Neither of you was supposed to find this place.”Liora stepped closer to Lyra.“Uncle Darian?”Something flickered across his face.“Don't call me that.”Lyra's stomach tightened. She moved in front of Liora.“You knew about this room.”“I knew it existed.”“You knew about the children.”Darian's jaw tightened. “I knew what they were doing here.”“And you said nothing?”“I tried.”Lyra gave a bitter laugh.“You call hiding the truth for twenty-three years trying?”Darian looked at her for a long moment.“No. I call surviving long enough to tell you what your parents couldn't.”“That isn't an answer.”“No,” he said quietly. “It isn't.”Liora suddenly grabbed Lyra's sleeve.
