Elara’s POV

A full week had past, yet my mind refused to let go of that moment. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw him again—that Angel with Ocean Blue eyes. I didn’t even know his name, and yet he haunted me more than Jude ever had. In my head, I played out different versions of us—sometimes he pulled me close, sometimes he leaned in so near I could almost feel his breath, sometimes he simply looked at me with that same sharp gaze until I broke apart inside.

It was foolish, I knew. He was a shadow I couldn’t chase, a man who didn’t belong to me. But still, I imagined him. I imagined what it would feel like if his hand brushed against mine, if he spoke my name like it meant something. And every time, my chest ached with a want I couldn’t name.

But no amount of fantasies could shield me from reality.

The pack house was alive with movement that morning. Bright banners draped across the hall, long tables were set with food and wine, and soldiers stood in their best uniforms along the walls. The bonding ceremony was not a simple affair—it was the moment the future of the pack was sealed. The Alpha’s son was finally going to be mated to his chosen mate. Of course, it called for a grand celebration.

My eyes swept across the sea of happy faces, and then there was Jude.

He stood tall, dressed in black, his hand brushing against Lily’s arm as though it belonged there. My stomach twisted at the sight. Lily looked radiant in a white gown that clung to her frame, her smile wide, her eyes shining as though she had won something precious. Perhaps she had. My mate. My once future. My heart still burned with it, even when I told myself it shouldn’t.

I hated that it still hurt. I hated that even as I stood there, hidden among the crowd, my chest tightened every time his gaze drifted across the room, even though it no longer stopped on me.

Step by step, the event began to unfold into a beautifully organised ceremony.  Cheers filled the hall each time a presentation was made, most especially when the pack dancers mounted the stage. I clapped when expected, smiled when watched, but my thoughts were far away.

And then it was time for the main business, where the whole pack witness my mate bonding with another woman.

If it were to be a nobody, there wouldn’t have been need for a grand celebration just to bond with their mate. But he was the fucking Alpha’s son. We could more or less see it as a wedding ceremony.

I couldn’t bear it. My legs carried me toward the door, my head spinning.  I told myself I was only going to take some air, that I didn’t care, but deep down I knew the truth. I couldn’t watch him bind himself to her. Not when the pieces of my heart were still sharp inside me.

I was one step from the exit when the hall erupted with a voice that thundered through the walls.

“All hail the Lycan King!”

Every head turned at once, a ripple of shock and awe running through the room as he stepped in.

Everyone bowed in unison, but I froze, hand still beside me, my breath locked in my throat.

The Angel from that night.

Only he wasn’t the Angel I thought he was.

He was the Lycan King. The cruel Lycan King

  • THE LYCAN KING’S CLAIM   CHAPTER 149

Aldric POVOkay. That was all I said to her...Okay.The word followed me, still resurfacing in my mind like a curse.I stood alone before the tall windows, staring out at the kingdom swallowed by night.I replayed the scene at the resort over and over again in my mind.Elara standing in front of me after spilling her honest thoughts out.She spoke about the mate bond with Elton and about the reason for choice she made at the ritual, about choosing him to protect me. She admitted the kiss and confessed she was sorry..And all I had given her was one word.Okay.God, I was pathetic.I should have told her I was hurt or I should have told her I was afraid.Heck, I should have even snapped at her in anger.Instead, I had retreated from her her and from my real emotions.I dragged a hand down my face and exhaled sharply.“Okay,” I muttered again, the word tasting bitter. She had deserved more.Just then, a sharp and urgent knock struck the door.I straightened immediately, burying every

Elara POV“Seraphina?!”She stood before our table like she owned not just the restaurant, but the air inside it.She stood there composed and regal as ever. She was dressed in a pale ivory gown that caught the evening light.Anita was the first to move. Her chair scraped sharply against the floor as she rose to her feet.“You need to leave,” Anita said flatly. “Now.”Seraphina’s gaze didn’t shift from me. “Good evening to you as well.”“I’m not here for pleasantries.” Anita stepped slightly in front of me, shielding me with her body. “You don’t get to walk in here like nothing happened.”The entire restaurant pretended not to listen, but I could still feel their glances.Seraphina finally looked at her, slowly and carefully. “I wasn’t aware I needed your permission to enter a public space.”Anita laughed, her tone sharp and humorless. “Alpha Queen or whatever title you’re parading around with… I don’t give a damn.”A few gasps rippled through nearby tables.“You tried to have my frie

  • THE LYCAN KING’S CLAIM   CHAPTER 147

Elara POVThe morning sun slipped through the thin curtains of my room, like it had every right to enter or like nothing had even happened the night before. It brushed against my face gently, it's touch warm, but I felt none of it.I laid still on the bed, staring at the ceiling, replaying the same moment over and over again.Okay.That was all Aldric had said. After everything I had poured out there in front of him.I stood there across him like a fool, pride thrown out the window, explaining the mate bond with Elton… something I never even asked for.Explaining the ritual… how I chose Elton to protect Aldric from the darkness clawing at my insides and how I didn't want him to go through it, explaining the kiss… how it meant nothing, how I regretted it, how I would take it back if I could, but most of all, how sorry I truly was.And all he gave me was one flat word.Okay.There was no anger, no fight, no accusations.Just… acceptance. Or worse… indifference.I rolled onto my side, hu

  • THE LYCAN KING’S CLAIM   CHAPTER 146

Aldric POVThe moment my voice filled the room, Elara froze. Her hand was still wrapped around the door handle, her fingers tense and her knuckles already going pale.Slowly, she turned to me.Her eyes found mine, and whatever relief flickered there vanished just as quickly, replaced by something sharp and furious. She marched toward me immediately, her boots pounding hard against the marble floor.“So this is how you’re going to act now?” she demanded, stopping just a few steps away from me. “Lock me up here like some fragile thing and forget I even exist?”“Elara,” I started, instinctively reaching for her, “it’s not like that—”“Then how is it?” she cut in, her voice rising. “Tell me, Aldric. Because from where I’m standing, you vanished the moment I stopped being convenient and started having demons.”The words struck harder than I expected. I felt them land in my chest.I hated the words, not because she said it or how far from the truth it was, but because I myself made it look

  • THE LYCAN KING’S CLAIM   CHAPTER 145

ELARA POVThe doorknob twisted violently, rattling against the wood like it might snap clean off.My grip tightened around the wooden stick I’d grabbed from the corner, my heart hammering so loud it drowned out my thoughts.Anita stood a step behind me, her breath shallow and her eyes fixed on the door.Whoever it was, they weren’t knocking. The door slammed open with a force that made it crash against the wall.I lifted the stick instinctively, every muscle tensing up immediately…And then I froze.“Jonas?” The name slipped out of me like a breath I hadn’t realized I was holding. He stood in the doorway, his chest rising and falling and his sharp eyes scanning the room before locking onto me.Relief hit me so hard my knees almost buckled.I lowered the stick slowly, my hand shaking now.“Oh thank the moons,” I breathed. “It's you…”I turned slightly, glancing back at Anita. “I know him, he's good.”Her shoulders loosened just a fraction, though she didn’t fully relax. She straightene

Aldric POVRage carried me through the palace corridors like a living thing.I barely noticed the servants flattening themselves against the walls as I passed, their heads bowed and even their breaths held just by my presence. My boots pounded loudly against the marble floor as I marched foward with anger. My hands were clenched so tightly my palms burned, my nails biting into flesh, the pain grounding me just enough to keep my wolf from tearing free.My mother’s chambers stood at the end of the hall.Seraphina.She was the woman who had shaped me, trained me, hardened me. The one person I had trusted without question in this kingdom. And she had tried to kill the woman I loved. The image of Elara flashed through my mind when I arrived in the nick of time to save her.She was drained, blood on her face, her skin pale…I had nearly lost her.The thought alone threatened to split me in two.I didn’t bother to knock when I reached .The doors slammed open under my hand, crashing violentl
