Molly:

Farrell’s voice and what appeared to be a woman’s voice jolted me awake. I stood by the door, listening intently. It was a woman, but it was not Cassie. He had told her off that day, and it would not make sense if she were here. Most of the time, what he did made no sense.

This voice sounded softer, happier, and more alive.

I waited until they had gone a little further. Then I quietly pushed open the door and followed them, walking gently with my back to the wall and hiding behind the pillars in the hallway.

The lady’s hands were cuffed to Farrell’s elbows, and she took every opportunity to graze her body with his. For a while, I tried not to jump to conclusions. When they reached the end of the hallway, I expected them to turn right and descend the stairs, but they turned left. Farrell had warned me not to go down the hallway.

I was not supposed to go there, but he had a lady jump up and down around him as they walked to the room.

Was I doing something wrong? I questioned mysel
