Chapter 6: Shocking Entrance II

Skylar’s POV

“Come on, join me.” I say signaling her with my hand. When she moves closer, she smells faintly like Lilian—that’s odd. Deciding not to think much of it, I continue eating. Then I remembered some things I wanted to ask her.

“Do you know anything about mom?” I say before eating a huge piece of steak.

“No, I don’t know anything about mom. You know Dad never talks about her and the slightest hint towards that topic always provokes him.” She says frowning slightly but doesn’t stop eating.

“Yeah, I know. It’s just that, I’ve been wondering about her lately. Who she was? What she looked like? What she was like? It doesn’t matter though, forget I asked.” I say, closing my eyes and shaking my head to rid myself of the thoughts.

“Absolutely not, I actually know a few things about her from moving around, asking some people and entering some places I shouldn’t enter…” She says trailing off with a small smirk and arched eyebrow.

“Are you really serious? Don’t you dare mess with me, Lettie.” I respond with a side glance.

“Why will I joke about something serious? As a matter of fact, I do have a picture or two of mom.” She says with a smile.

“Really? Please can we go see it now?” I ask her, feeling excited already.

“Let’s finish our food first, so we can have enough time to discuss and snoop around.” She says, pursing her lips.

“Okay, then, let’s hurry up.” I said, then we continued eating in silence

After eating, we went to Scarlet’s room. She showed me two pictures, one was of mom smiling with a little dusting of snow and a white rose in her hair, she was wearing a yellow long-sleeved floral gown and she was standing in front of a big tree, the entire surrounding was covered with snow.

The second picture looks like it isn’t complete, here she was wearing a long white gown, with a magnificent crystal design and beautiful jewelry.

“She’s so beautiful.” I said tearing up and my voice above a whisper.

“Yeah, she is.” Scarlet says leaning closer to me, we couldn’t stop staring at the pictures.

“We look so much like her. I really wish I could have met her. Do you know anything about mom?” I ask.

“No I don’t, although, there’s a room where some of her things are kept, that’s where I got these pictures. It’s just that the room is always locked and it’s on the Eastern wing of the house, you know that part of the house is prohibited to everyone including me. Wait, why are you so curious about mom?” She says with a slightly confused look on her face.

“I don’t know, I just started thinking about her, what would things have been like if I didn’t kill her.” I finished the last two words on a whisper.

“Skylar, come on, you can’t be serious. You of all people should know all the things Dad said, was bullshit, he is just looking for someone he can blame to ease his pain. You were just a baby and it was definitely not your fault, you could not even open your eyes yet or even save yourself, how would you have saved her? How would you have known what was going on?” I gave a feeble shrug in response because there was nothing else I could have said.

“If you killed her, then it very well means that we both did it since I must have caused some damages before you—.” She couldn’t complete her sentence because her room door was suddenly opened and Stefan strolled in, looking like he didn’t have a care in the world and a massive smile plastered on his face.

Oh, dear! What is it with this guy and barging in without knocking? I tried not to roll my eyes at that thought.

Freya said in my head, “He did it quietly though.” I ignored her because I really didn’t want to start with her, not yet anyway.

His smile wiped off and was replaced with concern when he noticed my tear-stained cheeks. I began to wipe my face with my hands as much as I can, to show I’m okay.

“I’m so sorry, I didn’t realize this would be a bad timing.” He said looking between me and Scarlet.

“Oh no…it’s okay, I was just leaving.” I said laughing to lighten the mood but instead it made the atmosphere so much more awkward, which made it obvious that I was indeed not okay.

“No, you weren’t.” Scarlet countered and I responded.

“Seriously, I’m okay, Lettie. We will talk later and it’s already 1:23am, I should really get some sleep. Good night.” I said hugging her.

“Alright, good night. But if you need anything at all let me know, okay?” She says into my ears rubbing my back.

I respond while walking out. “Yeah I will. Good night, Stefan.”

“Yeah, night night.” He says extending his fists towards me which I bumped with mine.

By the time I shut the door behind me, I distinctively heard “Hey, babe,” which is muffled by the door.

I know I will not be able to sleep this night without a glass of milk, so I decide to get that first before going to my room.

After drinking two glasses of milk and keeping the carton back in the fridge, the sound of vehicles entering the garage catches my attention, peeping through the window I spot Dad and some of his men. I quickly dock before they spot me, good thing I didn’t turn on the light, I quickly wash my glass and keep it back before rushing to Scarlets room.

On my way, I can hear the front door opening and shutting with a loud thud. My room is on the third floor so he won’t check on me yet. I slow down my movements to be as silent as possible.

I open Scarlets door and she is sleeping soundly, Stefan is nowhere to be found and her room has too much perfume in the air. Damning the consequences, I turn off the light and lie down with her and that’s when I feel it—Stefan is under the duvet.

We don’t even get the chance to react before the door is flung open and the unmistakable footsteps of Dad is heard walking into the room. Oh crap!
