Chapter 5: Shocking Entrance I

Skylar’s POV

Stefan rushes into the room and shuts the door quietly behind him. “What are you-?” He cuts Scarlet off saying hurriedly, “A maid is coming,” before rushing to hide in one of the adjoining pool area toilets.

On cue, there is a knock on the door with a muffled female voice asking for permission to enter the pool area, we tell her to come in.

“I’m sorry to disturb you madams but Miss Scarlet, the Alpha has been trying to reach you.” She says.

“I have talked to him already, thank you.” Lettie says with a slight frown.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t know. I’ll get going then.” The maid bows before rushing out of the room.

I let out a sigh of relief immediately the door shuts and Stefan comes out of the bathroom. “Wow…that was intense.” He says with a grin.

“Tell me about it.” Lettie says with a roll of her eyes.

“Okay, now I really need to go. Bye, Love.” He says kissing the top of Lettie’s head before leaving the room again.

“As you were saying…” I say relaxing on the towel again.

“Well, you remember our secret sixteenth birthday party?” She says.

“Yeah?” I reply, giving her a side glance.

“During the party, I got really drunk as you know and Stefan took care of me. He stayed with me until morning. Since then we just hit it off and we later discovered we are mates.” She said, smiling sheepishly and avoiding my gaze.

“What?! You’re mates?! That’s amazing.” I responded rushing to hug her, “I’m so sorry, I thought you guys were just…you know…” I chuckled awkwardly

“Well I couldn’t believe it when it happened initially. You can’t tell anyone about it though, not yet.” She says blushing.

“No way, are you blushing? Scarlet in love?! Okay, now I’ve seen it all.” I tease her while she shoves me playfully.

“Enough, Dad doesn’t know yet.” She says in an odd tone while sitting and putting her feet in the pool.

“Okay but why?” I say looking at her with concern while following her movements.

“I don’t know…it’s just…” she trails off with a sigh and I take her hand into mine, brushing the back of her hand to comfort her. “I know we don’t usually talk about it but I’m next in line and Dad wants me to be betrothed to another pack‘s Alpha to ‘strengthen our pack’—” she air quotes “—and if he finds out about Stef he will hurt him, I just know it.” She says on the verge of tears.

I pull her close and hug her. After a while, she sighs softly against my shoulder. “I would gladly change everything that is going on if I could, I just want you to know that we’re going to be alright and we can get through anything. Come on, you need some icecream and a movie to take your mind off things.”

I help her to pick up the towel and everything else and we leave the pool area heading to the kitchen. After getting the icecream and other treats for the movie, we settled under the duvet in my bedroom.

I finally took the contraceptive and the post pill to avoid STD’s. Before putting on the movie, we talk about the things bothering us. Halfway through the movie, we both doze off…

My eyes open suddenly, feeling alarmed I sit up and look around, recognizing my surroundings, I visibly relax. A knock comes from the door which I realize, was what woke me up. Lettie is still sleeping soundly beside me, so she must really be tired—well who wouldn’t be. Before my thoughts can distract me, I move to check who’s at the door so they don’t wake her up.

“Hello…who’s there?” I say tying my robe and walking to the door.

Looking through the peephole, I can’t see anybody, I open the door tentatively and there’s no one there. I stick my head out and look at both sides of the hall outside my room and there’s no one there, which is strange. “I could have sworn I heard a knock.” I muttered, then shut the door with a shrug.

Turning back to the bed, I came face to face with a scary looking man with a scar and a sinister smile on his face.

I shriek and try to get away from him but he grips me, holding me still despite my protests and whispers with his face close to my neck. “I’m coming for you soon, it won’t be long now, my little witch.” He says laughing maniacally.

I jolt up from my soaked bed panting for air. The entire room is dark and I reach towards my bedside table, desperately trying to turn on my night light or the lamp. After several tries, I finally find the switch. I sigh in relief as the light floods the room.

It’s 7:00pm already. To my disappointment, Lettie isn’t in the room anymore, there’s a note on the pillow she slept on and the tv is turned off.

Unfolding the paper carefully, I begin to read through. “Thanks for earlier and don’t bother coming down for dinner, Dad isn’t coming back till tomorrow and I’ll have your dinner sent up. I’m out handling pack duties as usual but I’ll be back soon. Do take care of yourself and if you need anything at all, just call me. Love you, Sky. From, Scarlet.” Her letter makes me smile.

I look towards my small living room and a tray of food is there. My heart is still beating rapidly due to the bad dream I had but the thought of being at home and my dad not home calms me.

Instead of dwelling on the disturbing dream, I settle down to eat my dinner consisting of a grilled steak, salad and mashed potatoes.

After taking a bite of the steak, my door opens and a pissed looking Scarlet steps in, she tries to mask her annoyed expression which makes me even more alarmed.

We both speak at the same time, “What’s going on?” I say.

“Hey, you. I’m—” she pauses then continues.

“What do you mean, ‘what’s going on?’—” I try responding but she interrupts,“you know what? Scratch that, how are you feeling?” She says walking over to where I’m seated and takes a seat beside me.

She tries to hide her anger with a smile but it’s just too obvious, I decide not to speak about it. “I feel so much better. This steak is amazing though, I want to take it to a far away island and marry it.” I say with a contented sigh.

“Well that’s good.” She says.
