Bloodrayne wolves were larger than most, both in their wolf and human forms.

It was hard to find a Bloodrayne shifter, unless it was female, under six feet tall.

Three cells were packed with the thirty-five injured, bleeding shifters from Bloodrayne, not one of which was under six-two, or leaner than at least two normal shifters combined.

Even as they hunched or squatted, their size difference was evident.

They were all surly, but even in their discomfort, pride oozed off their bodies in waves.

All Bloodrayne prisoners had been kept separate from the other prisoners.

They were all on the fifth level.

Those from the battle at Bloodrayne, and those who had survived the attack on Reyland.

There were still two more levels to go – where she, Gravan, and as she came to find out just days earlier, her father as well, had come to know.

The Bloodrayne shifters’ large sizes made it so that they were more cramped than w

The way his eyes slid over Marian as she stepped into view, she may as well have been his woman, approaching him as he reclined on the bed.Only, he was not on a bed, he was on a cold, stone floor, and she was not his woman, she was his captor. He was gazing at her, as friends had, but this time, Dinka was purring. While his men had gazed at her like she was a piece of meat to be ravaged, consumed, this one brushed over her with his steady, clear eyes as if she were something brand new he had just been gifted and was admiring. The filthy wolf smiled a smile that Marian knew must have caused a lot of loss and pain to many she-wolves.The shifter on the floor was dirty. Of course he was; he had been in a fight, in the snow, in the forest, blood had been spilled, and the dungeon was not a rest stop. There was no bed or shower, not on the fifth level. Here, you were dumped in whatever state you were taken.Marian noted that the wol

“How many would know what you discovered of the things that happened on the battlefield, and still keep their words in their heart?” Byron continued steadily, gazing knowingly at Marian.“Doctor,” Marian breathed, her eyes filling again as she kept her gaze on Reyland.“You know what the Noble heir has done, but you say nothing,” Byron continued evenly.“Doc–” Marian stuttered, shaking her head slowly.“I know what he has done. Jackson has told me of it. And from your aura earlier, it was clear what you wanted to do. And I know you, princess, you would not want his head all of a sudden, and for no reason,” Byron explained calmly before Marian could ask.Marian’s eyes widened as she finally faced the old doctor. She glanced around the closed room. From where she stood, her back was to the door.“No one can hear us. Rest assured,” Byron commented

“Calm yourself, princess, sit,” Byron requested reassuringly, gesturing to the chair beside Reyland’s bed.Marian moved hesitantly to the chair Dorien, then Dax, had used. She sat upright, her hands on her thighs, facing the older shifter.Byron moved Corien to another seat, beside the door.Once seated, Corien closed his eyes; his face was still, pale, and drawn.Without thinking, Marian reached for and held Reyland’s hand.Byron turned back to her. He placed his hands in his white coat pockets.“Do you remember how you felt at the Noble heir’s rejection?” he asked calmly.Marian’s brows went up as she stared at the doctor. Her lips pressed together.“Bear with me, princess. Do you?” he asked gently.“Yes,” Marian replied tersely.“It was a sharp pain. It filled your body, your mind, correct?” the doctor continued pa

As Marian measured her breathing, calling up every meditation technique she had learned from her fathers – Corien and Gravan – she kept her face clear of any unnecessary twitches and micromovements.Something felt off about the shifter who could only be the Alpha King.He was strong. Too strong. It was unnerving. He could take the Alpha of Bloodrayne by himself if he wanted to. Marian was certain of this.Yet, he had not.Instead, here he was, on their land, mere hours away from Bloodrayne, doing nothing. Here he was, as cool as could be, watching Dorien, and everyone else, after keeping them out of their own land for almost a full hour.Marian refocused her attention on the scene before her. Stopping her mind, cleansing her aura.Dorien pulled a chair beside Reyland’s bed.“No, Noble heir, wait, let me bring a cot –” Byron said hurriedly.“No. This is fine,” Dorien

Dax had never hit Dorien.Never.The Noble heir’s body trembled as he scrambled to his knees, his eyes overflowing.“Father,” he gasped.Dax struck him, open-palmed, across the face. Those guarding outside the pack hospital heard the sound from yards away.“What. Is. The. Meaning. Of. This?” Dax growled.Dorien would have screamed from the strike, but his voice had left him. He glanced at his father from the corner of his bleeding eye as he held his dislocated jaw.Beta Brock and Alpha Corien were behind Alpha Dax.Deep green eyes stared at Dorien from the door. A murderous aura filled the room as Dorien locked eyes with the owner of those eyes.Dorien tore his gaze from Marian, returning his eyes to his father.“I,” Dorien croaked, “I,” his eyes snapped to Reyland, then, for the first time, his eyes scanned the room.Dorien had never met the Alph
