Chapter Seventy-One

Andrea's POV

I don't know how long I stay curled up on Tristan's bed.

Long enough for my tears to dry.

Long enough for my anger to lose most of its heat.

Long enough for exhaustion to settle into my bones and pull me into a sleep I hadn't planned on taking.

By the time I wake up, the room is dark.

For a moment, I lie there without moving, staring blankly at the ceiling as my brain slowly catches up with reality.

Then I hear it.

Knock. Knock.

“Andrea?”

My eyes blink open.

  • THE PRICE OF BEING HIS    Something of my own

Chapter Seventy-EightAndrea's POV“I woke up to pee, and I couldn't find you in bed even though you said you'd come back after answering one more call. Tree, it's two in the morning.”Tristan doesn't look up from his laptop.“Baby, I know. I can read time.”I stand in the doorway for a moment, staring at him.The living room is dark except for the lamp beside the couch and the light coming from his laptop screen. He's sitting with his sleeves rolled up, his hair slightly messy, and a cup of what I assume used to be coffee sitting untouched on the table.I didn't even know there was a laptop in this cottage. Apparently, Tristan Hale has emergency work equipment hidden in places.I walk closer and place a hand on his shoulder. His fingers immediately stop moving across the keyboard. Without looking up, he takes my hand and brings it to his lips, pressing a soft kiss against my knuckles. My heart does that stupid little thing again.“If you're traveling tomorrow,” I say, “you should at

Chapter Seventy-SevenAndrea's POVIf I could turn back time and freeze one moment from these past few days forever, I honestly don't think I'd know which one to choose.Maybe it would be the afternoon Tristan and I decided to go fishing because apparently, catching our own dinner sounded romantic in theory. In reality, we spent nearly three hours on a boat without catching a single fish. Not one.Tristan blamed the location, I blamed his terrible fishing skills, and he reminded me that I was the one who suggested the idea. Eventually, we gave up and ate fruits for dinner while pretending that was exactly what we'd planned all along.Or maybe I would freeze the day I forced him to build sandcastles with me. That had been one of my personal victories, making this billionaire stand barefoot on the beach while helping me construct a ridiculously large sandcastle. He'd complained the entire time, then proceeded to make his side significantly better than mine.Arrogant idiot. There was als

Chapter Seventy-sixTristan's POV Somewhere along the line, I stop protesting. She makes me lean closer for one, and in another, she sticks her tongue out at the camera while I stare at her like she's completely insane.Which, to be fair, she probably is.By the time she's finished, she has taken enough pictures to document an entire vacation.“Give me my phone.” I say, reach for it. “One second.” Andrea continues scrolling through the pictures while I relax against the seat, assuming she's still looking at the ones we just took. Then I realize where she's scrolling.Oh, fuck.My entire body immediately straightens.“Andrea.”She doesn't look up. “Hmm?”“Give me the phone.”She scrolls again, and her eyebrows slowly begin to rise. No, no, no.“Wait.” I reach for it, but she immediately stands and moves away. “Hey!”“What is this?”“Nothing.” I immediately reply. “Just give me my phone.”“No.”“Andrea.”She scrolls faster, her eyes moving between the screen and me. Then she stops.Lo

  • THE PRICE OF BEING HIS    Captain Tristan

Chapter Seventy-FiveTristan's POVWhat the hell am I going to do with this girl?I stand behind the wheel of the yacht, one hand resting against it as I watch Andrea from the corner of my eye. She's outside on the deck, completely unaware that she's currently responsible for approximately eighty percent of my distracting thoughts. If I thought I liked Matilda all those years ago, then I genuinely don't know what the hell this is supposed to be.Because this? This is different.Insane, actually.I've known Andrea for barely two months, and somehow, she's already found her way into places in my life I didn't even realize were empty.I like her more than I should. Not just physically, although I'm definitely not going to pretend she isn't making that incredibly difficult.I like her company.I like talking to her.I like the way she challenges me without seeming intimidated by the fact that most people spend half their lives trying not to piss me off.I like her sarcasm. Her stubbornnes

  • THE PRICE OF BEING HIS    Vulnerability in his font

Chapter Seventy-fourAndrea's POV I almost laugh at how quickly the mood changes. He picks up the cup again and grabs a spoon from the drawer.“What are you doing now?” I ask. “Preventing you from burning yourself.”“I can drink it myself.”“You just proved otherwise.”I fold my arms. “That was one mistake.”“One potentially painful mistake.”“Drama queen.” I say, shaking my head. He ignores me. Instead, he dips the spoon into the drink and gently blows across it. Then he holds it toward me, raising an eyebrow. “What?”I stare at him. “Are you feeding me?”“No.”I look at the spoon between us. He looks at it too, then back at me. “Fine. Yes.”I smile. “You're ridiculous.”“Says the woman who drank boiling water without checking the temperature.”I lean forward and take the drink from the spoon. He watches carefully. “Better?”“Yes.”He dips the spoon back into the cup. Blows on it. Feeds me again. And somewhere between the third spoonful and the fourth, I stop finding it ridiculous

Chapter Seventy-ThreeAndrea's POV“How did you know the best product to buy?”I stand beside the stairs, examining the packet Tristan has just brought back in the small paper bag. I turn it over in my hands, reading the label before looking up at him.“I was fully expecting you to screw this up, but as always, you beat my expectations.”Tristan folds his arms across his chest. “Of course I did.”I raise an eyebrow. He lifts his chin slightly. “I'm Tristan Hale. I'm good at everything.”I stare at him.He stares back, completely serious.I roll my eyes. “Every chance you get, you must always show off.”“It's what I live for.”And then the idiot winks.I stare at him for another second before shaking my head. “You're unbelievable.”“I've been told.”“By yourself, I assume?”His smile widens.I sigh and put the packet back inside the paper bag. “Anyway, thank you.”His expression softens slightly.“I'll go change.”He nods. “Okay.”I expect him to say something ridiculous after that. So
