CHAPTER 3: PRIVILEGED

CARA’S P.O.V

“Wake up Cara! You are already late! Look at the time!!! Do you think that you are on vacation or something?” Lily shouted so loud that I fell off the bed. “I’m awake! I’m awake!” I said, rubbing the back of my head that hit on the pedestal which was next to my bed. “It’s 4 am. I was told that work starts at 7 am and everyone else is still sleeping” I reasoned, my eyes still heavy. “Yes, well Mr. La’vardo wants you to be his personal maid. Hence, you need to be up and ready before he is. Now not another word out of your stupid mouth. Get in the bathroom!” she bullied. “Watch your mouth. You have no right to talk to me in that manner!” I spat back at her. “Actually I do because I’m in charge here!” she argued. “But I’m in charge of all of you,” said a male voice with a light chuckle, both Lily and I turned to see Mr. La’vardo leaning against the doorway, I couldn’t help but find him attractive once again with the playful smirk on his face…

“Yes Sir, of course, you are. I- I was just telling Cara that she needs to wake up before you because she is going to be your personal maid. She was arguing Sir, please forgive me, it’s all her fault. You are awake and she isn’t even ready as yet” Lily’s words felt like she planted two horns on my head and made me a devil while stealing my halo. It’s quite obvious now, we cannot be friends! “Thank you, Lily. That was very sweet of you to do. I’m glad you care so much and Cara please can you get ready. Oh and put these on” he said, handing me a pair of sweat pants with a sports bra. Taking it, I was too much in shock to object to the bra, and by the time I build up my courage, he already left the room.

“It’s not that revealing Cara! Besides you have a nice body, you have nothing to be ashamed of! You have to wear it, he brought it for you!” I stood in front of the mirror trying to convince myself after taking a quick shower. “WILL YOU HURRY UP? I REALLY NEED TO GO! I DON’T THINK THAT I CAN HOLD IT IN MUCH LONGER” someone yelled, banging desperately on the bathroom door. I grabbed my belongings and hurried out, “I’m sorry” I apologized to the girl while I passed her. “It’s fine. It’s nice to finally meet you, Cara. Wish it was in a different way” she said before running into the bathroom and closing the door behind her. “How did you know my name?” I asked. “My boss noticed you yesterday,” she said. Assuming that she had the same boss that I did, Mr. La’Vardo I didn’t want to disturb her from doing her business and exited the servant quarters.

“Tie is up!” said a woman dressed in an expensive silk morning gown as she held her head high, making her way to the breakfast table. She was young, probably around her early 20’s which is around my age, she was beautiful as well with her flawless tanned skin and jet black hair. She didn’t only have the features of a model but a figure of one too! And the aura that surrounded her was powerful. Who could she be? She was definitely someone with power in this manor…Mr. La’Vardo’s wife perhaps? “Your hair …tie it up? It would complete your look” Her voice was softer towards her end as she continued to walk away from me and toward the dining area. Following her advice, I rushed back into the room and quickly put my hair into a messy, high pony, then I rushed back out to meet Mr. La’Vardo in the entrance room.

“There you are,” he said as he patiently waited for me as I got ready, his eyes fixed on my bare belly making a deep blush creep on my cheeks. “Ready?” he asked, handing me a bottle of water. “Yes, are we going for a morning walk?” I asked. “No, we are going for a jog. Your pace will determine whether it will be a morning jog or go on throughout the day” he teased. “I’ll probably be the one waiting for you” I teased back. “Oh yeah? We will see about that” he challenged as we left the yard.

We started to jog at a slow pace past the beach that I have not noticed on my way to the mansion in the dark. “It’s beautiful,” I said, my hands on my hips as I battled to catch my breath. “Yes, it is!” he said, but when I looked at him, his eyes were fixed on me. He quickly hid the admiration which I saw in his eyes, “Look at you! ‘I’ll probably be the one waiting for you’” he teased again, mimicking my words in a squeaky voice. “Hey!!! I do not sound like that!” I protested making him laugh, I remember thinking of him as not that attractive when I first saw him last night. Now, I will swallow my pride and take that back. He has the most intoxicating and cheerful laugh, so full of youth and joy and his eyes, although they hold so much authority and dominance, they are crystal clear windows to his pure heart. “Do you jog daily?” I asked. “Yes, well normally I make it to see the sunrise,” he said. “I’m sorry” I apologized. “For what?” he asked as we began to slowly jog again. “It’s my fault that you missed the sunrise today. If I haven’t delayed then you would have seen it” I said, feeling like a fool for arguing with Lily instead of listening to her. “Who said I missed it?” he asked, before blessing my ears with another one of his contagious touches of laughter, leaving me in confusion about what he meant.

We reached the house around 10 am, I was flustered with embarrassment as he was completely right about me, we only reached home this late because I needed a break like every five minutes. “See you tonight?” he said before heading for the stairs. “Tonight?” I questioned in confusion. “Yes, I heard that you make really good seafood dishes,” he said. “Yes, I do. What would you like to have?” I asked with excitement. “Surprise me” he chuckled, before turning to leave once again. “Sir… Sorry I meant Mr. La’Vardo, what are my orders for the rest of the day? Do I get it from Lily?” I asked nervously. “No, You don’t have to take any orders from Lily! Only from me. And you can take the rest of the day off, go have a nice shower and relax, go out or do whatever you want. I don’t really care as long as you are back to cook me dinner” he said, a cheerful smirk on his face. “Okay Mr. La’Vardo, as you wish” His smile reflected on my face. “Oh, and Cara…” he stopped me. “Maybe have a nap so that tomorrow we can catch the sunrise” he advised. “Are we going jogging tomorrow as well?” I asked. “Oh yes, every day Cara,” he said with a smirk before disappearing upstairs.

…..

XANDER’S P.O.V

‘I didn’t realize that I haven’t seen the sunrise like I have every morning until Cara mentioned it to me. ‘Cara’… how can a person be so full of life and so radiant, her spirit is as bright as the sun. She has so much positive energy, along with her angelic face and soft, kind eyes, she will definitely be able to bring the light back into my life and illuminate all the darkness that Eva has caused.’

My thoughts in the shower suddenly jumped from Cara back to Eva and I felt my soul wrench in pain once again. ‘Oh, Eva! Her beauty was incomparable! Her soft skin, perfect hair and bright smile makes me long for her every day! She haunts my mind and owns my heart. Will Cara be able to help me forget Eva? Is it even possible to forget a woman as beautiful as Eva? A woman as beautiful as Eva? A woman as beautiful as Eva doesn’t exist because Eva is the most beautiful woman in this world! How can I even think of forgetting her? On the contradictory …how can I ever forgive her?’

CARA’S P.O.V

“You are back in the home early,” said the girl who rushed into the bathroom earlier on this morning. Startled out of my thoughts, “Yes, we went for a jog today” I explained. “That’s cool,” she said with a smile, there was no sign of jealousy in her voice even though her words seemed to differ. “You are back early as well,” I said, trying to figure out what exactly she does. “Well, I’m free for most of my Day. I’m Kaish by the way” she introduced herself. “It’s nice to meet you Kaish,” I said as we shook hands. “It’s good having you here too Cara. Are you enjoying it?” she asked. “I guess so. I didn’t know that I would be his personal maid when I came for the job. My grandmother worked for his parents and she has recommended me. When she told me about the job, she put me under the impression that I would have a lot of chores to do.” I explained. “I don’t blame your grandmother. She was probably told that the job was a normal servant job because as far as I know, Mr.La’Vardo was not looking for a personal maid” her words made me even more curious. “He was not? But am I not Sarah’s replacement?” I asked and watched her grow into discomfort. “Sarah? Oh yes, you are. Actually, no you are not. It’s all really confusing. A lot happened during a very short period of time. In time I will tell you everything but for now, we have to be very careful about what we talk about and who we talk about! These walls have ears!” she warned. “Oh” was all I was able to say as my mind filled up with questions.  “So what are your chores?” I asked trying to keep our conversation going. “Not much, I am Ms. La’Vardo’s personal advisor” she explained. “Ms. La’Vardo?” I questioned curiously. “Yes… Mr. La’Vardo’s sister and only family member. Who just happens to want to meet you” she said, heading towards the door, she expected me to follow her, and I did.

Following her up the staircase, she lead me to a room of which the antique door was closed. “Yes?”  We heard a voice after Kaish knocked twice. “Cara is here to see you,” she said and the doors opened. I walked into the most exquisite bedroom that I have ever seen, Greek styled, the balcony overlooked the garden of the entire manor. I don’t know why, but I felt a little relieved seeing the woman who told me to tie my hair up this morning and learning that she is his sister. “Hi Cara” her voice seemed sweeter than in the morning. “Hi, Ms. La’Vardo” I greeted her back. “Oh no, please call me Rosa. I must apologize for this morning. I’m not really a morning person, you will see me with all kinds of mood swings in the morning but this is the real me” she gave me a soft smile. “That’s okay. You don’t need to apologize for anything” I assured her. “That’s sweet of you to say, Cara. Anyways, How is your new boss treating you? Fine, I hope” she enquired. “Yes, of course. I’m very grateful to be working here, for him” I said. “Cara, being, my brother’s personal maid there is a lot that you would need to learn and understand about him. He has been through a lot in life…a lot of pain and a lot of suffering…none of it he deserved” Emma said, seeming to be lost in the past. “I’m sorry that he has to experience all of that, he does seem like a really good person, but sometimes good people have to go through a lot of bad and painful stuff. However, I’m sure that pain cannot last forever.” I said, taking from my own experiences. “You aren’t wrong about that Cara, it’s been a while since I saw my brother so happy and his happiness can only be due to you,” she said with a smile, which I returned to her.
