CARA’S P.O.V
I can’t believe that I’m getting married in six months. I looked at myself in the mirror and happiness shone from within. Just two more months and I will be a married woman, I couldn’t get the thought out of my head. It was always my dream, a bride on her wedding day is the closest thing to a queen… but that’s not why I wanted to get married, I wanted to get married because I feel that marriage is one of the most sacred things in the world. I mean, how can it not be sacred when the main reason and source of marriage come from a magic so pure and so real…love! And I am in love, I’m crazily in love with Alexander La’Vardo, and the love that I feel for him, has me bursting with happiness. A few weeks ago not only my dreams of being a doctor and becoming an independent woman was crushed but so were all my dreams of getting married when I took on the job of a servant, who would have known that I would have been going from servant to wife?
“I hope that you are happy?” I heard a voice. “Extremely,” I replied, still looking at my reflection in the mirror. “Of course you are. You are finally getting everything that you wanted. You are going from rags to riches. Poor girl, you sold your heart for money” the person said bitterly. Turning to the source of the voice I saw Lily standing at my doorway, a bitter expression on her face, anger and jealously full in her eyes. “I’m chasing after love Lily, not money. I’m not what you think I am. I have a heart, unlike you!” I fought back, I was sure by now the news of our marriage spread around the house… how dare she though? How dare she accuse me of marrying for money? She doesn’t even know me! How dare she? “You can say whatever you want to comfort yourself and lie to Xander, but to me you are as clear as crystal glass, I can see right through you and your lies” she said. “In that case, I’m sure that you can see that I am the complete opposite of how your describe me to be” I said as I walked towards the door and shut it in her face.
Lily always has a way of spoiling my mood, I can’t even imagine how she must be spoiling my name to the rest of the employees in the house. That explains why I have been getting some death stares today as I passed some of them in the hallway. Xavier is their employer, yet Lily dictates to them and they believe whatever she says. She has such an impact on how they think…think…why can’t they think for themselves…it’s like they have no mind of their own or they are brainwashed by Lily and her words. If Lily say’s jump, no doubt that fifty per cent or more of the employees that work here will ask how high.
I needed to calm down. I opened the taps to run myself a hot bath. Dropping a bath bomb into the water, I removed my clothes. Just when I dipped myself into the steaming, tropical scent bath, I heard someone furiously banging on my bedroom door. “Come back in 30 minutes please!!!” I shouted and closed my eyes as I allowed all of my worries and anger which Lily has caused flow out of my body and soak into the water. Another set of furious banging disturbed my tranquil moment. Mumbling my curses, I put on my gown and went to check who is at the door.
“Emma?!!” I said, pleasantly shocked. “Oh, Cara! I’m so excited for you!” she said, wrapping her arms around me as I did with her too. “So he has told you,” I said, guessing the reason for her excitement. “Yes, oh my! I am so, so happy. I couldn’t believe my ears when he told me but the glow on his face and the sparkle in his eyes, not forgetting his ear-to-ear smile, convinced me that it is true. I never thought that I would ever see my brother that happy ever again, but today I did! Cara, it’s all thanks to you!” she said, gratefulness in her eyes as she held both of my hands in hers like a sister would. “I couldn’t believe it too…in fact I am still having difficultly believing it, but it is true, I am getting married to Xander,” I said. “We will be sisters-in-law!!!” She squealed and jumped in excitement. “Wait…so am I invited?...” she joked. “Errmm…We haven’t yet worked out the guest list but if we have space then we would definitely send you an invite” I played along with her joke. “Everyone else in this household hates me,” I said disappointedly. I would love to say that is not true but we both know that Lily has turned everyone against you. But don’t worry Cara, once people get to know what you really are like, they would warm up to you. She can lie to them now but soon everyone would get to know the pure soul that you are” Emma’s word’s held truth. “You are right. Just like how a storm cannot last forever, a lie cannot last too” I said as I realized that. “Yes, now can I see the bride-to-be smile?” she asked, making me smile.
“So Emma, I will need a bridesmaid,” I said and her eyes sparkled if possible even more than when I confirmed that I am getting married. “Of course I would be more than honored to be your bridesmaid,” she said. “Great! So you will be one and my sister will be the other” I said. “Just the two of us?” Emma asked. “Yes, just the two of you” I confirmed. “You do know that you were supposed to have three bridesmaids right” She said in a stern voice. “Yes I know Emma but my parents weren’t close to any of our family members so I barely know any of them and I’ve lost most of my friends because I always had my head in my books and barely went out” I explained. “Head in your books?” she looked confused hearing that expression. “Yes, it means that I have been busy with my studies” I explained. “Yeah I know what it means. I didn’t know that you were studying though. What were you studying” she asked. “Medicine” I answered. “Were you studying to become a doctor?” she asked. “Yes, I had a year until I qualified,” I said. “So why didn’t you complete that year? ” her question had me sadly explaining my whole story about how I ended up here. However, I wasn’t sad about my past, I’ve spoken about it so many times that I can recite it without feeling any emotion. What I was sad about though, was that my bath water getting colder and colder as each minute passed by.
“We need to book a Spa day,” I came up with the idea as I thought about my bathwater. “We need to start getting our nails and hair treated so that they will be perfect in time for the wedding. We also need to do facial treatments for bright, naturally glowing skin” I was excited as I spoke about the prep leading to my wedding day. “Yes…why don’t you leave the bookings to me. I know the perfect place for a spa day. Maybe we will go on Sunday. I will send one of our drivers to pick up your sister in the morning and we shall all go” Emma said. Honestly, I was so grateful to have her around, our friendship was growing strong. “Thank you, Emma. I would really appreciate that. Thank you so much” I said, hugging her. “It’s no problem. After all, Xander asked me to help you plan the wedding. Oh, there is sooo much to do and soooo little time. Cara, the venue is not even booked as yet!!! We have to still work out the guest list!!! Food…food is the most important thing, even if you and Xander don’t show up, I wouldn’t care as long as there is food!!! Oh, and wine!!!” she said making me laugh. “And Cara you better start looking for wedding dress idea’s …we will get it designed by the best designer in Milan. That reminds me, as your bridesmaid’s, your sister and I would also have to go shopping as well. There is soo much to do!!!” she paced up and down my room, listing everything that needs to be done, rubbing her temples as she thought about it all. “Would you please relax” I laughed at her, making her laugh too. “Thank you Cara. You have made my life so much better. You have no idea of how happy I am right now. Cara you are truly an angel” She said while she wrapped her arms around me and it felt good for me to hug her back. It felt so similar to hugging Joyce and for a second I actually began to think that I was in fact hugging Joyce…I missed her and I missed my mum.
LILY’S P.O.V “What are we going to do now? This little goody-too-shoes b**** is ruining our plan!!! I’ve heard that he plans to marry the fool. We have to do something soon! We can’t let this happen” I said, fuelled with anger. “What do you mean? I thought that she wasn’t a threat. That’s what you told me, didn’t you?” She asked me, confusion in her voice however she was still calm and I was grateful for that. “I know Eva, but this girl…you don’t know her. In fact, I don’t think that anyone knows her. She has every one fooled. She seemed so innocent and stupid when I first saw her but look at her now, she has woven her way into marrying your ex-husband. What would we do now? How would you get him back now?” I asked. “Oh Cummon Lily, we both know that that Alexander La’Vardo will never be able to resist me. When I come back into his life he will forget all about this little naïve Cara. No one can stop me from getting what I want!” Eva’s words were bitter over the
XANDER’S P.O.V “Hello” I greeted, answering the phone in my office. “Xander?” the blood drained from my face, hearing her voice. “Eva?” I said, still in shock. “Why are you calling me? What the hell do you want?” I began to yell at her as I snapped out of my shocked state. “Xander listen, please. The woman that you are dating, Cara, she is cheating on you, Xander.” I laughed bitterly at her words. “Oh, Eva. Not everyone is a w**** like you and Cara is certainly not. How do you even know her name or that I am dating someone? Did you really grow so obsessed with me after I divorced you? You are sick Eva! You are sick in your head and you need help!!!” I said, my voice un-normally calm. “NO!!! XANDER PLEASE JUST LISTEN!!! DON’T HANG UP!!! Cara still has her hometown boyfriend” she said, her words came out fast, desperate to say what she wanted before I could hang up. “So you are a W****, a liar and a storyteller,” I laughed at her sarcastically. “Xander-” she tried to say somet
CARA’S P.O.V “So, are you going to tell me where we are going?” I asked Xander, getting into his sports car. “Cara, do you remember that night, when you got drunk with wine and said that you would follow me anywhere I go?” he asked, turning the key, his engine roared. “Yes, I remember,” I said. “but I was drunk then…remember?” I questioned him smartly. “Oh, so does that mean that you don’t love me that much?” he said, making a sad face as we rolled out of the long, curvy driveway. “So, you won’t tell me?” I asked again. “Hmmm, it’s quite obvious now. Isn’t it?” he said, more to himself than to me. The expression on his face was as if he made a discovery but still trying to figure out if his discovery is correct with his creased eyebrows. “What is?” I asked, curious to know what he is going on about. “That you, my dear Cara has never been surprised before,” he said, his tone playful but his eyebrows still creased. “What makes you say that?” I asked, amusement danced on my lip
XANDER’S P.O.V My soul was truly satisfied seeing Cara so happy. Seeing the bond between the two sisters reminded me of how close I was to my brother. “Joyce, this is Alexander, Xander for short. He is the guy I told you about, my fiancé” Cara said, her voice filled with excitement. “Ah, so we finally meet in person,” Joyce said to me, Cara’s face filled with confusion. “The pleasure is mine,” I said, shaking her hand gently and politely. “Meet in person? What? What are you talking about?” Cara questioned, her eyebrows creased in confusion but her smile did not leave her lips. “How do you think he got our address, hey Cara? Did he dream about it?” Joyce mocked Cara. “Well, I was so filled with excitement when I realized that he is bringing me home that I didn’t think about how he got our address” Cara explained, shrugging her shoulders. “Well there is my silly sister that I missed so much,” Joyce teased. “I see that you have grown quite a lot since I left, even though it has
CARA’S P.O.V “Can I drive?” I asked, packing our belongings in the car. “Drive? You want to drive? Wow I really can’t believe my ears Ms Cara Stone. Are you the same person who created a big argument on our way here, just because you didn’t want to drive?” Xander’s words were dripping with sarcasm. “Well this is what you get for forcing me to drive, now I’ll steal your car!” I said, getting into the driver’s seat and waiting for him to get into the passengers. “Cara your foot is still healing. You can barely walk without my help, please explain to me how you will drive with an injured foot?” He folded his arms and looked at me with amusement. “Oh yeah, I didn’t think about that. I guess you are right” I sadly got out of the driver’s seat and limped over to the passengers. “Bye sweetheart” my mum waved at us. “Bye mum, bye Joyce” I waved back. “Drive safe and don’t rush, I love you sis… you better take good care of my sister Xander” Joyce warned Xavier as she bid us f
LILY’S P.O.V “Eva, I really hope that you came up with a plan yet! Time is of the essence” I warned. “Relax Lily, I am working on it, a master plan does not develop overnight, it takes time” her naïve personality annoyed me. “Eva listen to me…time is something that we DO NOT HAVE!!!” I yelled the last part, breathing heavily over the phone. “Why? What is it that you are not telling me?” Eva grew curious. “Xander and Cara went away for the weekend. Rumour has it that they went to visit Cara’s family and ask her mother for her blessings before they can finally tie the knot” I told her the truth hoping that she will finally grasp the need to work faster. “What? What do you mean? Do you mean that they were serious about getting married…so soon?” I could hear the shock in Eva’s voice. “Yes! That’s exactly right. That is why, my little Eva, you need to start working faster. Your plan needs to be completed by tomorrow and by Wednesday we need to start putting the plan into ac
CARA’S P.O.V I feel bad about arguing with Xander yesterday regarding our wedding venue and I could tell by the look on his face that he was hurt inside after all of the nasty words that I threw at him. I love him so much, but I couldn’t help but feel upset knowing that another one of my dreams will settle in the dream graveyard. However, now that I think about it again…I don’t think that the money that I have saved up is enough for the wedding that I want. I want a grand wedding, but that is my dream and not Xander’s, I cannot expect him to pay for it. I know that he has spent a lot of money on his other wedding, but that he did by choice and I would rather not get married than force him to spend money on this wedding as well. I am not after his money but if I continue to irritate him about the big, grand wedding that I want he might assume that I am after his money and I won’t even blame him because that’s the way it would seem. I have to finance my dream wedding on my own
CARA’S P.O.V “Xander, are you busy?” I asked, peeking through the small opening of his office door. “Yes, do you need something?” he sounded grumpy. “It can wait” I said, my palms sweaty, my heartbeat increasing rapidly. “Wait…don’t go” I heard him say as I was about to slowly close the door. “Yes?” I peeked through again. “So are you finally talking to me now?” he asked, a smirk forming on his face but I could tell that he was trying to hide it. “Emmm… well…actually…I wanted a favour…not a favour a permission…I…er…I want permission” I got tangled in my words due to my nervousness, making him laugh. Closing his laptop, he gave me his undivided attention. “and you want my permission to do what?” he looked at me, amusement still dancing in his eyes. “Er…I’ll tell you when you are not busy. I really don’t want to bother you” I said, losing all my courage and bailing out. “Why are you so nervous?” he asked. “I’m not!” I answered quickly, covering up my weakness. I’
