Henry stood in the doorway of my old bedroom wearing nothing but a white towel wrapped around his waist.

My brain short-circuited.

I immediately looked away.

Too late.

I’d already seen enough.

Wet strands of Henry’s hair clung to his shoulders, droplets of water sliding down his skin. The towel sat dangerously low on his hips, and suddenly the wallpaper, the floor, the ceiling—anything that wasn’t the six-foot-three man standing in front of me—looked fascinating.

Henry noticed.

Of course he did

  • THE SHIRTLESS CHEF IS MY FAKE BOYFRIEND   JUST BEING NICE

By late morning, the house had finally started to settle down. After everything that had happened outside, I was ready for a little peace and quiet. Aunt Simone had spent half the morning teasing me, Ian had somehow turned chopping firewood into a competition, and Henry had made sure everyone knew exactly how easily he could win it.The whole house had been noisy since breakfast. Someone was always talking, laughing, arguing, or calling for someone else from another room. It was Christmas, technically, but sometimes it felt less like a peaceful holiday and more like surviving a very festive family circus.I escaped into the kitchen, hoping for a few quiet minutes.Instead, I found Henry. He stood at the counter, washing his hands. His sleeves were pushed up, exposing his forearms, and there were still a few tiny flakes of sawdust clinging to his skin from all that firewood.Of course, he looked completely relaxed.I leaned against the doorway. “You really had to show off like that?”H

  • THE SHIRTLESS CHEF IS MY FAKE BOYFRIEND   THE UPGRADE

The living room felt way too crowded that morning.Ruby, Theodore, Simone, Ian, Henry, and I were all gathered together, and I had a feeling Simone was about to say something she probably shouldn't.I wasn't wrong. She studied me for a moment, a knowing smile playing across her face.“I have to say, Clara...”I immediately turned toward her.“Aunt Simone...”“What?” she asked innocently. “I'm just saying.”She shifted her attention to Ian.“Nothing against Ian. He was handsome.”Ian managed a polite smile.“Thank you, Simone.”“Oh, honey. I wasn't talking about you.”Ruby covered her mouth, but I still caught her laugh. My cheeks flushed.I glanced at Henry. He was trying not to smile.Simone turned to him.“But, girl... you definitely upgraded.”I blinked.“What does that even mean?”“It means your taste has improved.”Ruby snorted.I shot her a warning look.Henry finally let out a quiet laugh.I turned toward him.“Don't.”He lifted both hands.“I didn't say anything.”“You didn't

  • THE SHIRTLESS CHEF IS MY FAKE BOYFRIEND   THE BRIDESMAID

Ruby waited until we were halfway down the upstairs hallway before she spoke. “Can I ask you something?” I glanced at her. “Sure.” She kept walking beside me, one hand lightly resting against the railing as we approached the stairs. For a few seconds, she said nothing. That made me look at her again. “What?” “Nothing.” “You're obviously thinking about something.” Ruby smiled. “I'm just trying to figure out how to ask.” That immediately made me suspicious. “Ask what?” She hesitated. Then she looked at me with an expression so careful and gentle that I almost wished she'd just say whatever was on her mind. “Are you really over Ian?” I stopped for half a second. Of all the things I expected Ruby to ask me that morning, that wasn't one of them. “Yes.” She watched my face. “Really?” “Yes, Ruby.” “Like… you don't have any feelings left for him?” “No.” She nodded slowly. “Good.” I raised an eyebrow. “Good?” Ruby gave a small shrug. “I didn't mean it like that.”

  • THE SHIRTLESS CHEF IS MY FAKE BOYFRIEND   THE MORNING AGTER

Snow drifted past the tall windows of the living room, soft and silent against the pale morning sky.I stood by the window with a warm mug of coffee in my hands, watching the flakes disappear against the white landscape outside. The house was unusually quiet. For a few minutes, I enjoyed it.No questions. No awkward family conversations. No pretending.Just coffee and silence. Then I heard footsteps behind me.I didn't turn around.I already knew who it was.Ian stopped a few feet away.“Couldn't sleep?”I took a sip of coffee before answering.“I slept fine.”“You always did hate being alone with your thoughts.”I finally looked over my shoulder.Ian stood there already dressed for the day. He looked exactly like the man my family remembered—the polished, charming fiancé who had somehow become part of every family photograph without ever really belonging in any of them.I looked back at the snow.“You remember that?”“I remember a lot about you.”Something about the way he said it ma

  • THE SHIRTLESS CHEF IS MY FAKE BOYFRIEND   ONE BED

The bathroom door opened.I looked up.Henry stepped out wearing military-green sleep pants, his hair still damp from the shower. Then he looked at me.Then at the bed.His expression changed.“That’s it?”I frowned.“What?”He pointed at the bed.“This bed.”I glanced at it, then back at him.“It’s a normal-sized bed.”Henry walked over and inspected the mattress like he was evaluating a piece of questionable furniture.“For you.”I crossed my arms.“What’s that supposed to mean?”“It means you’re smaller than me.”“I’m aware.”“And this bed is smaller than me.”I stared at him.“That sounds like a personal problem.”The corner of his mouth lifted.“It might become one.”I looked at the bed again. It was my old bed. I’d slept in it for years, and it had never seemed particularly small.Until now. With Henry standing beside it, the mattress suddenly looked ridiculously narrow.I sighed.“You said we’d share.”“I did.”He looked at the mattress again.“I just didn’t realize we’d be sha
