Ryker pov

The next morning, the sun barely broke through the heavy grey clouds. I was at my desk, going over border reports, but my mind was completely somewhere else. I couldn't focus.

Garruk walked in without knocking. He looked tired, his leather vest half-buttoned, but his eyes were wide. He slammed a piece of paper down on my desk.

"I found something," Garruk said, leaning over the table. "Or rather, someone."

I looked up from my papers. "Is this

Ryker Pov The dark trees blurred past the car window as Garruk drove us back toward the palace.I leaned my head against the cool glass, staring out into the night. My chest felt heavy, crushed under the weight of what that old man had said.A Dire Wolf.A laugh almost escaped my throat. Dire wolves had been extinct for centuries. Their bloodlines were entirely wiped out during the Great War when the Oracles slaughtered their entire empire to the ground. Not a single one survived. Finding a Dire Wolf in this day and age was literally impossible. So what did that leave me with? Finding the original witch who cast the spell on my father decades ago? She was probably six feet under, her bones turned to dust.A dark, suffocating realisation hit me. I was doomed.I was never going to break this curse. I was never going to have a real mate, never going to build a family, and never going to know what it felt like to be fr

  • THE SLAVE WHO COULD TAME THE ALPHA   CHAPTER 24

Ryker Pov The air inside the barn was thick, heavy with the sharp smell of dried herbs and old dust. Dim candlelight flickered from small clay pots scattered around the room, casting long, twisting shadows across the walls. In the centre of the room, a young man sat cross-legged on a woven straw mat, his back turned to us. He didn't even glance over his shoulder.I was expecting a wrinkly old man, but I guess this will do."Take off your shoes," Rabin barked sternly before we could take another step.Garruk and I exchanged a quick look. I clenched my jaw, but we both unlaced our boots and set them near the door.We walked over to the mat and sat down across from him."Did I tell you to sit?" Rabin snapped immediately, still staring straight into the small fire in front of him.A surge of hot anger flashed through my chest. I snapped, turning my head toward my Beta with a harsh glare. "Did you bring me all the way ou

Liana povAs I was struggling to draw in breaths, I felt a hot breath just beside my ear. He was sniffing me, taking long, deep breaths of my neck and hair like a wild animal.I tried grabbing his arms to loosen me, but his grip was so firm. Although I couldn't push him off, I noticed something very weird. He was cold…like, very cold, almost like he was in a freezer. Why was his body so cold? “Fuck, not her.” I heard him growl. His hand loosened around my head, and relief washed over me like a wave. I immediately spun around to look at him. The room was completely empty. There was no one standing there, just a tiny cloud of black smoke fading away in the dark.My eyes snapped over to the window. The glass frame was wide open, swinging softly in the night wind. Outside, a swarm of dark bats flew straight up into the moonlight and vanished over the palace walls. My heart dropped to my stomach.Wa

Vance povAs I walked down the grand corridor toward Scarlet’s chambers, I couldn't get Ryker out of my mind. Did that scum find another witch to mess with his head? I've been trying to get anything out of Garruk, but that fellow is a total closed book.Such a fucking dog to Ryker. Once I'm king, he'll be my first servant. Piece of shit.I slowed my pace as I passed by Ryker’s private quarters. I paused near the door, leaning in slightly to see if I could catch any hushed conversations or whispers. Nothing. The room was dead silent. I scoffed under my breath, smoothing down my shirt before continuing down the hallway toward the west wing. When I reached Scarlet’s door, I didn't bother knocking. I slipped inside and pushed the heavy door shut behind me.The second the latch clicked, a flash of red silk rushed toward me. Scarlet threw her arms around me, burying her face into my chest and hugging me tightly."Vance! Finally," she breathed out, her arms wrapping around my waist.I didn

Liana pov I opened my eyes slowly, my head was throbbing like crazy. The light in the room was soft, making me squint a few times before my vision finally cleared. I was lying in my own bed in the servant quarters. A thick, warm blanket was pulled all the way up to my chin.I blinked, looking around the small room. Sitting on a wooden chair right beside my bed was Lord Vance. My eyes widened. Panicking, I immediately tried to sit up to bow and greet him properly. "L…Lord Vance!""Whoa, stay down," Vance said quickly. He placed a gentle hand on my shoulder, softly pushing me back onto the mattress. "Don't force yourself. You need to rest."I blinked rapidly as I sank back into the pillow, my heart fluttering. "My Lord...what happened? How did I get here?""You collapsed right into my arms in the main hallway," Vance said with a soft smile. "You were shivering uncontrollably and choking for air. I brought you back here, found your medicine container on the table, and made sure you too

Liana povMy heart was hammering against my ribs, way too fast and way too hard. A sharp, burning squeeze tightened right in the centre of my chest.No. Not now.Without my heart medication, my body was falling apart. The room was cold and stuffy, my body shivered uncontrollably, and my teeth ached so badly.I pressed my palm flat against my chest, trying to force my lungs to take in air. I had to stay strong. I couldn't die in this dark, filthy storage room.I squeezed my eyes shut, curling into a tight ball on the freezing floor, counting every single painful heartbeat.One. Two. Three...Suddenly, a loud metallic click echoed through the darkness. The heavy door swung open, blinding me with the sudden burst of torchlight from the hallway. I winced, throwing an arm over my face.Madam Mira stood in the doorway. She looked irritated, her eyes darting nervously down the empty corridor behind her. She muttered som
