DAMIEN

“Did you fucking see her break?”

My voice was a whip. “Right in front of us, Ralph. She shattered—and you just stood there. Bleeding like your guilt wasn’t screaming louder than any howl.”

Ralph’s jaw locked the muscle ticking. His eyes—flat, stormy, ashamed—finally met mine.

“They weren’t supposed to be alone,” he said, voice low and rough. “I left them with guards. With pack members. I left them safe.”

I snarled. “Then you either trusted the wrong bastards... or you’re the coward who let her bleed because looking in her eyes meant facing what you failed to protect.”

His hand curled into a tight fist.

“Say it again,” he said, cold as ice.

I stepped closer, close enough to taste the rage between us. “You heard me. Say her son’s name—if you’ve got the spine. Say it, Ralph. Or don’t you even remember what you lost?”

He looked like I’d ripped the air from his lungs.

“What did you do, Ralph?” I hissed. “After you found out who killed her boy—did you do anything? Did you even look

  • THE STING OF THE VAMPIRE'S BITE    EPISODE 107

KEILAH We drove in silence, each car slicing through the chilly morning mist as they sped down the winding road toward the hills. Ralph drove in front, Aaron beside him in the passenger seat. Seth, Garbie, and Gerald followed in the third car, while Damien took the lead vehicle—with me. Of course, he did. He had insisted on it, his voice firm and unyielding, giving no room for argument. Marina sat silently in the back seat, arms crossed, eyes burning holes into the road ahead. But I wasn’t paying attention to Marina.I kept glancing at Damien. His hands gripped the steering wheel like he wanted to crush it, every muscle in his arms pulled tight. His jaw clenched. His shoulders tense. He hadn’t said a word since we left, not even a glance my way. But I didn’t need words to know what was happening. He was scared. Angry. Trying to hold himself together and doing a terrible job at hiding it.I kept stealing glances at him, my heart aching at how quiet he was. This wasn’t like him. Damien

KEILAH I could still feel the cold from last night buried in my bones. That kind of brokenness doesn’t just vanish. The pain of almost losing my child—it came back like a scream I never got to release. A wound I didn't even know I had until it split open. I’d screamed into Damien’s chest not because I was weak… but because I couldn’t carry the grief on my own anymore. And yet…I was walking again.I kept staring at my feet, at the way they touched the floor, steady and real. Aaron’s magic had somehow worked. I could feel them again. I could move. My body no longer felt like a prison.Hope… it came back. Crawling, hesitant—but alive.“I want to go to Africa,” I said quietly. “I want to meet my mother.”Silence.No one said a thing.I looked between the three of them. Damien. Ralph. Aaron.Nothing.My brows pinched. “Why aren’t you saying anything? Don’t you want me to meet my mother?”Aaron stepped forward slightly, his voice soft. “That’s why we’re here.”Ralph crossed his arms, jaw

DAHLIAIt hadn’t been long since I ended the call with Damien, but my mind was already spiralling. They’re all in the States now. God… I just hope airport security doesn’t throw a wrench into everything. They saw them arrive, but there’s no record of them leaving. That alone could raise questions—ones we can’t afford. And I know it won’t be long before they’re back here, all of them.Lord, help me. If I can just get this fae to talk—even if it’s just over the phone—we might still have a chance.I ran a hand through my hair, eyes flicking to my phone again. Still no message. I knew Jay was probably still in the plane, but that didn’t stop me from expecting a text. Some part of me needed that ping, like proof that something was still moving forward.Across from me, Isaac kept throwing glances my way. Subtle, but not subtle enough. I could tell his head was full of questions. Of course, it was—four tourists fly in, and somehow we’re down to one? We’ve broken every rule in the normal trav

DAMIEN My heart plummeted like a stone in a deep, black lake.Ralph turned around at the same time I did. His face was pale. Confused. Shocked. And that told me everything—he hadn’t expected this. Not even a little.I stepped forward slowly, my voice low and dangerous. “Where the fuck is Keilah?”He opened his mouth—but before he could say a word, the sharp crash of breaking glass echoed down the hallway like a gunshot. Both our heads snapped toward the sound.Ralph cursed under his breath. “Shit.” Then he was already moving. Fast.He knew.He fucking knew exactly where it came from.I followed him down the hallway, past the dark wood frames and half-open doors, until he stopped again—at another open door. No hesitation. He went straight in.It was a child’s room. But not just any child’s room. The walls were blue, but the night had drained the colour, casting it in soft greys and cold silvers under a single flickering wall lamp. Paw Patrol murals stretched across the wall in cartoon

  • THE STING OF THE VAMPIRE'S BITE    EPISODE 102

DAMIEN Darkness clung to me like a second skin—cold, thick, and endless. The last thing I remembered was pain. Raw, soul-burning pain. Then something cracked through the void. A jolt. Then another—sharper this time, biting through the haze. “Wake up, damn it,” a voice hissed near my ear, urgent and female. Another sharp zap of energy hit my chest, like lightning cracking through ribs. “Come on, bloodsucker, wake up!” My eyes snapped open with a gasp, lungs dragging in air like I’d been drowning. I blinked against the blur, vision swimming with golden flickers and shadowed outlines. Faces hovered above me—women. Fae. All of them with wide, anxious eyes and tangled hair, dressed in tattered silks and armour pieces like they'd been through a war. “He’s awake,” they said in unison, relief mixing with nerves. I groaned, rolling to my side, my entire body throbbing. My head pounded like it had been slammed against stone—and hell, maybe it had. “Damien!” Tindra’s voice broke thr
