Chapter 3: New pack

I felt faint on my feet, but Frost and I remained on our feet through sheer stubbornness. We weren't going to look weak to the new arrivals. The smaller wounds on her body have healed with our little rest, but she still had a gash at her side that feels deeper and still oozing. That proved dangerous to her.

The young men looking a little bit older than me, I believe to be patrols for whatever pack we have stumbled to drew their guns and pointed at us. Frost growled angrily at their show of aggression. In ranking these boys weren't even betas and they dare challenge us.

“Relax girl, we are alone and can't take them on.”

Frost tried to refute my words but I continued on before she could speak. “Not in our current state.”

The boys were staring at Frost with nervous fear in their eyes. The hand holding the guns were trembling so badly. I believe this to be their first patrol, and I would hate for us to get shot because someone was having a case of shaking fingers.

The sight of Frost can be terrifying. She was about five feet of massive white fur, blue eyes that can be very terrifying, especially in the dark. Even though the sun is gradually making its way to the front of the sky, the sky remained grey, and dark.

“Let me,” I said gently to my wolf. At the face of danger Frost hates to backdown, and I will hate for her stubbornness to get us killed.

She hesitated before she relinquished control to me. I winced as the pain of transformation gripped my inside. Within a blink of an eye it was over and I emerged naked in a crouched position, and then slowly lifted my head to the two young men who still had their guns on us.

They gasped at the sight of my appearance, which wasn't something new. I was used to captivating people with my looks. Long silky straight blonde hair, deep huge blue eyes, that most people have compared to the sea, small heart shaped face, square jaw, slender frame, and a striking height of five feet eleven. I slowly got to my feet, utilizing the only weapon I had in my arsenal right now.

Their eyes got stuck staring in awe at me. A smug smirk pulled at the corners of my lips at the sight of their dropped jaw. I allowed them their feel of my body, revering in their admiration, but that only lasted for few seconds before I got their attention. We needed to get this show on the road before I bleed to death.

I coughed to get their attention. They jumped slightly, blinked severally, their face red as hot pepper. “Who are you?!” one of them demanded. His was tall, about a foot taller than me, but I had more bulk on him, and his blonde hair was shaved at the side, with a chunk of it falling in front like an errand strand.

His voice would have been menacing had it not been shaky and slightly husky.

“Fallon Skye, from Running Creek...”

“What are you doing in our pack?” The shorter one demanded harshly, his gun raised to shoot. He was the one that wanted to kill me earlier. My attention switched to him. He looked nervous even though he was doing a great job of not revealing it.

“I am sorry, didn't mean to trespass. My pack was attacked, and I was on the run from the rogues that attacked it.” My voice shook slightly as sorrow filled me. My family and everyone I know are probably dead, I thought in despair.

My words resonated a feeling of sympathy from my captors. They looked at each other, communicating silently. When they reached a decision they turned in unison to face me. “Our pack has a policy of shooting trespassers on sight. We can never tell who is a rogue and they have become a menace, but we will let our alpha decide your fate.”

Their smell, I wanted to snap at the short guy, but I reserved my smart ass remark and instead nodded my head. That was fine for me.

“Follow us,” the short one commanded. I am guessing that he is the most senior between the two. I started after them, holding my side to keep the wound on my side from bleeding much. It is beginning to worry me that it is not healing.

The trek back to their pack was a long one, and by the time we made it to the pack house I was almost dead on my feet.

The pack was silent, probably because everyone was still asleep. The boys looked at each other again before one of them took out his walkie talkie and spoke to someone on the phone. The security here is a lot better than what was in place in my pack. Maybe that is why the rogues caught us with our pants down.

The short guy spoke in a very low tone as if he doesn't want me to hear what he was saying to whoever is on the other side. I didn't bother listening. My side was killing me, and I was barely hanging on. Whatever they plan to do, they better hurry up, I don't know how long I can hang on.

“Want me to take over?” Frost asked.

I shook my head. Frost will pose more of a threat than I will. I looked more like a defenseless woman whom they are less likely to crucify, than my wolf.

After his talk the short guy turned to face me. His was wearing a fresh nervous look on his face now, and I don't think I am the one responsible. He was scared of the person he spoke to on the other end. “We will wait for our Beta, he is on his way,” he said softly.

“Is he mad?” The taller one asked, sounding nervous too.

The short guy shrugged his shoulder. “Couldn't tell. You never know what Dalton is feeling,” he mumbled. They were making out this Beta to be a complicated person which roused my interest. Dale was the same. He takes pride in his stoic expression. Being a mystery was one of his signature and what he did to intimidate most of us, even though those of us that knows him on a personal level knew what a teddy bear he is.

My heart squeezed sadly in my chest at the thought of our Beta and the rest of my pack.

Before I could dwell on what I have lost in one night, someone emerged from the shadows few distance away from us. I blinked at the shadow of the man. He was average in height, with a muscular built. Still he wasn't what I was expecting. He was a small man, and I couldn't see him being as terrifying as these boys were making him out to be.

“Here he comes,” the tall one whispered and they both straightened out their frame, a serious nervous look on their faces. Beta, they said at the same time with respect, their voice slightly shaky.

The newcomer didn't answer them but immediately moved his regard from them to me, his brown eyes probing as they fell on me. Staring into their dark depth I understood why these fellas were terrified. There was nothing light about the man standing in front of me. His strength could be seen with just a look. This was someone you don't want to cross.

I swallowed, slightly nervous, and waited for him to address me.
