I gasped as Salvatore landed another punch on his stomach. He gagged and his face paled. Before Salvatore could deliver the third punch, I ran to his side to beg him to stop.

At first, I thought he wouldn’t listen to me but then he dragged Ben by the collar and pushed him out of my office before slamming the door shut. He then turned to me and held my face.

“Are you okay?” he asked, his eyes roaming over my body.

I was slightly confused by what he was doing but I had a more pr

~Ariana I tried to reach Carlo Rossi several times after the call ended but it didn’t work. I eventually gave up. My plan was to go straight to bed the moment I went home but after I lay in bed tossing for several minutes, I gave up on that plan. I decided to make something to eat but the only thing I found in my kitchen cupboard was a box of pasta and some ramen. I also hadn’t restocked the fridge yet as I hadn’t been there in a while. I added it to my to do list and just went for the ramen. Because I had so much to do and I wasn’t about to let my inability to sleep ruin my schedule, I ate the ramen while continuing work on my research. Every once in a while, I found my mind either drifting to Salvatore and the possible crash or my meeting with Dr. Smith. What I hadn’t mentioned to Ladasha earlier was that he tried to make a pass at me. Or at least it looked like he tried to but when I asked him what he was doing, he immediately switched and now I wasn’t so sure myself. I did

~Ariana “Mummy!” Nico screamed into the phone the moment the call connected. I removed my phone from my ear for a moment before placing it back. “Nico? Why are you with Ladasha’s phone?” “Because I’m missing you. When are you coming back?” I could tell he was pouting even though I couldn’t see him. “Either tomorrow or the next.” “Come back today!” “Nico, I still have work to do. Please give the phone back to Ladasha.” I heard some shuffling sounds over the phone as I got into my car. I turned on the car and a radio channel came on through my speakers. I reduced the volume when I heard Ladasha’s voice. “Queen Elena, we all await your return,” her ever bubbly voice rang through the phone. I rolled my eyes. “I still have work to do here. I need to stay till next tomorrow so they can remember I’m actually employed here.” She chuckled. “How was work today?” “Terrible.” I went on to brief her about Salvatore’s visit and the earful Dr. Smith gave me when I went to meet him

~Ariana I tried to maintain my composure. “M-Mr. Smith? What brings you here?” I forced my trembling lips upwards. “Is that how you speak to your patients?” “N-No, it’s not like that. I-I—“ “Dr. Elena was just following my instructions. My mother is a bit of a handful. If she doesn’t make her understand the consequences, she’s going to refuse to get treated. I’m sorry if it’s against some kind of code of conduct or something. She was really just trying to help me out,” Salvatore said all this with a calm demeanor and a warm smile. Allegra gave him a side-eye but remained silent. Mr. Smith was still frowning but he grudgingly muttered an ‘okay’ before asking me to meet him later in his office. I waited for him to leave before exhaling. “Okay.” My voice was still a bit shaky. “Please, can you just tell me why you came to see me? I know Dr. Mike already briefed me about what was wrong with you and I’ve looked through your case files but I need you to tell me by yourself s

~ Ariana “I was afraid it would be you when I heard your voice. Why do you just keep showing up everywhere and is that how you talk to your patients?” Salvatore asked, taking long strides to get to where I was seated at my table. Allegra remained at the door. “I should be the one asking you why you show up everywhere. You’re definitely stalking me at this point. And no, I don’t talk to my patients like that. It’s just reserved for sneaky old ladies who hate me for reasons I can’t understand.” “I’m not stalking you. I thought I was going to meet a different doctor.” I chuckled. “You must feel so foolish right now.” I turned to Allegra. “Allegra dear? Don’t you want to join us?” I could see her eyes twitch from where I was seated. “It’s Mrs. Rossi to you.” I frowned. “You don’t like Allegra? I think it’s a beautiful name!” “You will speak to me with respect, you insolent child.” I scrunched my brows. “How am I disrespecting you? I am really trying my best to make yo

~Ariana I briskly walked out of the lecture room and headed straight for the health care center. It was my clinic day but I had somehow managed to squeeze in a morning lecture with the residents before it was time to meet any of my patients. I was trying to make the most out of the three days I was going to be here before returning to Beverly Hills. My phone started ringing again but I didn’t bother bringing it out. I already guessed it was Nico. I left him behind with Ladasha before getting on my jet to come here and within the space of five hours, he had called me twenty times for no good reason. Ladasha said he was missing me which was cute but also crazy considering the fact that he did not want to follow me. He literally spent the previous night bawling out his eyes and begging me to leave him with Ladasha. And now I had granted his wish and he was still pestering me. I tried to keep my head low the moment I walked into the hallway leading to the clinic. Unfortunat

~Salvatore I stared at the CCTV camera that she was pointing at with the red light steady next to the lens. Was that the source of the light I had seen on her forehead earlier? “Would you look at that?” She poked my forehead. “You have a red light on your forehead now!” she said, giving me a saccharine smile. I glanced back at the CCTV and the red light. I wasn’t entirely sure why but I still wasn’t convinced that someone wasn’t targeting her. “You must feel so stupid right now,” she said, shaking her head. “It’s high time you left. You’ve done enough damage.” “Ari—“ “Just go, Salvatore!” I decided to just leave. She slammed the door so hard behind me, I was afraid it would break. I didn’t leave immediately, I went round the house to check to be sure there wasn’t anyone inside the compound. After doing a thorough sweep twice, I concluded that I might have really been wrong. I headed out through the side gate, which immediately locked behind me. It startled me at
