Six o'clock arrives before I notice the office has emptied around me. The glow from my monitors paints my office in pale blue, and beyond the glass walls, the cleaning crew has already begun their nightly routine. I stare at the latest projections for another minute before closing my laptop with a quiet sigh. There comes a point where working late stops being productive and starts becoming avoidance, and judging by the knot between my shoulders, I crossed that line hours ago. The Carrington estate comes into view just as the sun disappears beneath the horizon. Every light inside the mansion burns warmly against the evening sky, making the place look less like a home and more like a museum. I straighten my tie before stepping through the front doors, slipping back into the version of myself everyone expects to see. "Welcome home, sir." Adam waits in the foyer exactly as he has for longer than I've been alive, his hands folded neatly behind his back. Some people become part of a house. Adam became its heartbeat long before I was born. "Evening, Adam." "You look tired, Sir." "That bad?" He shrugs, snapping his finger and a servant appears to collect my bag. I loosen my tie as we begin walking toward the grand staircase. "Actually..." I stop and turn to him. "I've been meaning to get your opinion about something." Adam's expression never changes. "I'm listening, sir." "This situation with... Raze. Do you think I made the right decision?" He grows quiet for a moment. "Well, sir, I have always said that the past has a funny way of wearing a mask, but a clever man knows whether to take it off or just enjoy the theater," he answers smoothly, a subtle, dry glint in his eyes. "You made a strategic choice to protect your legacy, Mr. Everette, and while your heart might be throwing a slight error at the moment, your brain is doing precisely what it was built to do. Though, if I may offer one small observation, seeing you flustered by that young man certainly brings a bit of lively energy back into these overly quiet hallways, even if it keeps the kitchen staff constantly blushing." I let out a laugh, the tension leaving my shoulders for a brief second. Trust the man to turn a simple question into a riddle of life lesson. You will think I have gotten used to the way he talks by now having served in the Carrington’s for three generations. He clears his throat to return to his official duties. "Your father requested to see you in his private office the moment you returned, sir. I shall be overseeing the final preparations for dinner in the meantime." "Save me whatever Serena asks to be thrown out." "I'll do my very best, sir." I smile warmly after his retreating figure, feeling a familiar ache of gratitude for the elderly man who has been far more of a parent to me than my biological ones ever managed to be. Ever since our mother abandoned us and high-tailed it away without so much as a backward glance, and with my father consumed by his precious dynasty, Adam was the one who picked up every single abandoned slack. He was the one I sat with when I had nervous questions about my very first middle-school girlfriend, and he was the one who retrieved me from my first foolish teenage DUI, hiding the incident from my father—though, I always suspected Theodore Carrington knew and simply didn't care enough to address it unless it hit the press. I knock once before entering my father’s office, to find him sitting on his massive desk reviewing several maps covering his desk with a glass of scotch resting on his hand. "Good, you're here," he says without looking up. "You wanted to see me?" I ask, stepping inside and pulling my shoulders back to project that rigid, formidable executive demeanor he always demands. He gestures toward the maps. "The Calderman oil fields." I recognized the name immediately. One of the largest privately owned reserves still available on the market. "The owner has spent three months wasting my time," he says. "Every meeting ends with another delay. Every agreement somehow needs another conversation." "You think he's stalling?" "I know he is." He finally looks up to me. "Unfortunately, tonight’s board meeting overlaps with the only time he's willing to meet and I need you to represent me. I've already primed him on the phone, blabbing about my genius tech-prodigy son and explaining how integrating your division's data-analytics platform can optimize his yield and make him billions more if he invests his land into our portfolio... so, what do you say, son?" I frown slightly, tugging at my collar as I digest the sudden, unwanted assignment. "Dad, you know I don't know much about the raw mechanics of the oil sector, so why aren't you asking Serena to handle this? She thrives in these types of aggressive, traditional corporate negotiations."Everette’s pov The glass cup shatters against the wall where I threw it. "Tell me it's not true, Dad!" I roar, my voice trembling with a terrifying blend of fury and betrayal as I glare at my father. I’m practically hyperventilating. I haven’t even processed Jacque leaving me yet, now all that is in my mind is the sickening memory of Frank Calderman sliding his hotel room key and whispering his room number while caressing my knee. I couldn't believe it at first, but then my father's earlier words echoed in my head with…... *You two have a lot in common* And the l truth landed like a physical blow. Theodore Carrington didn't send me to close a tech integration deal; he deliberately sent his openly gay son to serve as eye candy for a predatory billionaire, knowing exactly what the man expected in return. I felled for his words again. My father doesn't even flinch at the sound of breaking glass, leaning back comfortably in his armchair without a single flicker of remorse
Serena’s povHours later, refreshed, immaculate, and armed with absolute destruction in my hand, I march down the grand corridor of the mansion directly toward my father's private office. I push the heavy double doors open without knocking, a triumphant grin spreading across my face as I take in the sight of Theodore Carrington sitting behind his desk and his youthful fiancée sitting in his laps. "Look at that," I purr with sarcasm, stepping into the room. "The picture-perfect couple. How sweet, I think I might actually vomit.""Serena, you should really try getting onboard with this," my father says with a weary, irritated sigh, rubbing his temples as he looks up at me. "It’s getting a little tiring, don't you think?""Oh no, Theodore, please don't be harsh with her," Angela chimes in, putting on her absolute best innocent-saint routine as she glides around the room toward me. "I would really love for Serena to always feel free in saying her mind around me." She stops directly in f
Serena’s pov“Oh my God, Malik.”I moan loudly as the wave of my impending climax builds in my core. My nails dig into the leather of the armchair, my legs held wide open by Malik while his face stays buried between my thighs, his broad hands gripping my hips to pull me tightly against his mouth. His skilled tongue strokes my clitoris with slick, rhythmic precision, swirling and lapping until every nerve ending in my body feels completely set on fire. I’m utterly helpless under the relentless work of his mouth, breathless and trembling as he drinks down every drop of my pleasure. "Yes, yes, right there, don't stop!" I chant like a woman possessed, my fingers tangling in his dark Afro hair, pulling him closer as the orgasm finally violently tears through me, sending intense, continuous spasms straight down my thighs as my head falls back against the cushion.“God, you’re incredibly good at that,” I breathe out as he finally pulls away, his wet lips giving my inner thigh one last li
Everette’s pov"Because you and Mr Calderman actually have a great deal in common," he replies, completely ignoring my point as he walks around his desk and placing a heavy hand on my shoulder and steering me toward the door. "Just help me close this meeting tonight, Everette. Besides, I know you've been badgering me about finding a way to pivot a percentage of our energy yields into those little humanitarian ESG initiatives you're so obsessed with, and if we secure this field, we could actually fund one of those clean-water offset programs you keep pitching."I narrow my eyes at him, deeply suspicious of the sudden carrot he is dangling in front of my face. My father has as long as I can remember, loathed anything resembling humanitarian work or giving back to the community, having literally laughed in my face whenever I suggested selling off non-performing assets to help fund public infrastructure or whenever I snuck away to work on my personal pet projects, like funding soup kitch

*Some people inherit kingdoms. Others inherit the expectations that come with them. The second weighs a lot more*Everette's POVOutside, my eyes are locked on my phone, trying to answer the string of emails waiting for me as I wait for my driver to pull my Rolls-Royce around. The fake engagement with Raze is getting way too much publicity that I want. "I need your brain, Brainiac." Serena slips an arm around my waist from behind and steers me away just as the car pulls up. "Come on. We need a strategy. Dad's little fiancée has my title, and I intend to take it back before she gets comfortable sitting in my office. While we're at it, we should probably destroy their engagement too."She starts marching back to the house before I answer, completely confident that I will follow because, in her mind, I always do. My driver gives me an apologetic look over the roof of the car, silently asking whether he should wait or leave. I sigh."When I said I have work to do, I wasn't joking, Seren
