ADRIAN POV

These past months had flown by in a blur. I never imagined myself to be this happy and fulfilled but with Edna by my side, everything felt so good. Everyday was a blessing to me, to her and to our family.

10 months had past and my dad's company has been thriving under my reign as the new CEO.

Dad was so happy to see the progress I was able to achieve in just less than a year of take over.Everything was going so smooth and easy, and also Edna have given birth to a baby boy. We named him Jason. He was as beautiful as Edna with his round brown orbs, curly hair and chubby cheeks.

But one thing still bugged my thoughts and gave me sleepless nights. After getting over the whole Lissa tragedy and pain , her

illusions, nightmares, and moving past her dark experience, after getting over all that, suddenly everything came rushing back again which really got me concerned and scared. And what's worse is that this time around it was even more bad

than the previous ones. When I lie on my bed, I fear falling asleep because all I can see is just Lissa and her accident.

I was getting insomnia as a result and it was really taking a toll on my mental health.I sought help from my psychiatrist and after a lot of sessions with him , it was still very hard to get pass it.

Edna was also becoming more concerned that my truama was

happening all over again.I tried to convince her I was mentally stable but I kmow she could see past my lies.It was already a year plus after Lissa passed away.I ambled to her grave for a

visit and took along new fresh flowers to honour her memory.

Though Lissa's body was never found but I got a tombstone built in memory of her. That was the least I could do.

On getting there, my knees caved down and tears brewed in my eyes.

"Lissa , it's been a year plus already since your demise , but still your memories are still very fresh in my mind. There has never been a day that goes by that I do not remember your colourful smile and nice personality. You were such a good person with a warm and kind heart, you were always putting people first even

before you, especially family. You a wonderful person and a rare gem, you would forever be in my heartbut this memory of yours is becoming unbearable for me. It also looks like torture for me ,I wish you can hear me now and help me get past these dark memories which won't allow me move on with life. I am now

the new CEO of my dad's company.Something you have always dreamt of , something you have always been trying to get me prepared for" I paused in my speech, wiping off my tears.

With a sigh, I continued."Even when I felt less interested in becoming the next CEO of my dad's company , you have

always encouraged me to do more and become the man I'm supposed to be.You advised me to reach my full potential and strength.Your dreams have become a reality, just so unfortunate that you ain't here to witness all of it. Well I have actually started a new family, my wife and a beautiful baby boy named Jason. You know, I gave him that name just to honour your memory as that has been our plans to name our first son.  I know you would be happy for my new life Lissa, I miss you and I love you.Keep resting my love "I concluded with great emotions and tears streaming down my cheeks. I dropped the flowers and stoop up, walking my way out of the cemetery.

*FEW WEEKS LATER*

Weeks later after my visit to Lissa's grave, my wife got a call from home. Her mother had fallen ill and her dad wasn't around, he travelled for a business meeting. As the only child of her parents, she had to go over to check and take care of her mother.

I gave my consent for her to spend the weekend at her parents.

By 9:00 am, Edna was already set and ready to leave withJason.

I waved goodbye at them and I meandered inside.

Now this house  would be empty without my wife and son. I will really miss their company.Few minutes later, a knock on my door caught my attention. One of our security guards came in and informed me of the arrival of someone.

"Sir someone is asking after you" he announced.

Well I wasn't expecting anyone today and my friend Josh never mentioned to me that he will be coming around.

"Who is it? "I asked not really interested.

"It's a lady sir"

I was actually confused. A woman? I wasn't expecting anyone today talkless of a lady.  " Okay let her in" I told the security.

My eyes quickly veered to my phone, replying to important

messages when I heard a distinct tone call my name.

"Adrian!" The feminine voice squeaked. Immediately I looked up to see who it was, my jaws dropped to the floor and my breathing seized. It was my girlfriend Lissa!

"Oh my God, impossible!" I gasped to myself as my mouth hung wide open seeing someone I thought had died in a car crash months ago.I must honestly be dreaming.

"Hello there handsome" she exclaimed as she ran towards me and jumped on me for a tight hug.For a moment I thought I was

having my usual illusions but inhaling her fragrance made everything about her rushed back to me; how we met at a party and how we had a rough start to becoming friends then to

becoming a couple. Every bit of her memories rushed back to me including the last day we spent together and how I drove her to the park, how we wave our good byes and my reaction seeing the news of her death. I was definitely in shock. In fact shock was an understatement of what I was experiencing.

"Baby" her soft tone interrupted my thoughts before she eventually released her hold on me.

"How is it even possible that you are here Lissa? You are supposed to be dead!  We did your funeral and I mourned you. So how possible is it  that you're standing right in front of me as a human being again ? What the hell!" I exclaimed, anxiety and confusion webbed over my face.

"I know how you feel and I know you have alot of questions for me, and I'm ready to answer all the questions you have today and now" she told me.

"Sit please" I motioned for her to take a seat on one of my sofas while I just stood wondering what was really going on

"The way you are just gazing at me, it's like you have seen seen a ghost Adrian". She chuckled.

"Well are you a ghost?! Because I don't understand how you came back from the dead. I don't just know what to do or

say, it feels so impossible and shocking to me" I replied.

"I know. I know how you're feeling right now and I know you want answers toeverything that happened that day and that's just what I will tell you" Lissa took a deep breath and started

narrating the story.

"After you left and we boarded the bus, we reached bayelsa when the driver lost control and we rammed into a trailer.

The crash was so bad that the last thing I remembered was me hitting my head on the window and I passed out. Fortunately help came from the local residents. They were able to get me and others out of the bus and I was in coma for 1 straight year. After I woke up I couldn't remember anything , not even

my name, not even where I was from"she meticulously explained to me in a very emotional and devastated tone. I could feel her pain, what she could have gone through in

those trying times.

I didn't know what came over me but I went close to her and I

wiped her tears. I pulled her in for a tight hug before she continued her narration.

"I regained my memories just two months ago and made my way back to the city of Lagos. After meeting my parents,

I immediately went looking for you. I couldn't find you at the other apartment. I tried calling your line but it wasn't going through. All your social media handles where not functioning.

Apparently your last seen was the day we last saw. I had to really contact literally everyone we both knew before I could get this address" Lissa sobbed and hugged me so tight.I was really emotional as I also hugged her too. I wiped her tears and caressed her back, reminding her that everything would be alright. I stood up and went to the kitchen to get her some cold juice but on ambling out, I accidentally spilled the juice on Lissa's gown.Rushing back inside to get her a towel

for her to dry her cloth, I sauntered back to the living room to meet Lissa naked with only her pants on her . I quickly turned around to create privacy for her but then I felt her breast pressed on my back and she whispered in my ears.

"I missed you so much baby" she whispered in my ears with a calm, cool and seductive tone. I immediately felt those farmilair sensations from her voice evoke within me. My mind drifted back to the day we first made love and in the blink of an eye, she was right in front of me. I quickly snapped out of

that feeling.

"I'm so sorry about everything that has happened to you, but this can't happen again because I'm married now with a

kid. All I can do right now is to be faithful to the vows I took to my wife at the altar and respect her" I said in a serious but not convincing tone , as that didn'treally come from my heart. At that point I definitely wanted Lissa so bad , but on the other hand I had to be faithful to my marriage.

Lissa walked up to me and said crossed the distance between us, "Okay I will go but on one condition. I just want you to tell me something and if you can say it I will leave and never come back".

"What is that?" I asked her.

"Tell me that all the things we shared was fake, tell me you do not love me at all , tell me you wanted me to get out of your

life forever, and I will leave and never come back Adrian" she urged me, gripping on to my shirt.

Silence interluded the atmosphere and I was lost for words. I couldn't say that to her. I truly loved Lissa and none of our memories were fake.I couldn't bring myself to say that. I would have married her not Edna if not for her accident. Suddenly a strange feeling evoked within me. I lost lissa before, I can't afford to lose her again not this time around when she's alive

and not dead.

"I thought as much. I know you still love me , you still desire me so badly, you can't go on without me in your life" her voice was barely above a whisper.Throwing all cautiousness to the wind,I lost control and plundered my lips on to hers. It was such a fiery, heated kiss with our tongues intertwining. God I missed her so much.I kissed her like a starved man. I had been starved for so long.I was sucking out the air from her lungs, my tongue seeking to devour her whole.

Detaching my lips from hers with heavy breathing, I gazed into her eyes."I love  you Lissa" before latching my lips on hers once more.  Immediately, I grabbed her behind and carried her until we landed on a broad king sized couch. she at once took off my  clothes and we where so engrossed in our erotic romance. I inserted my finger deep inside her and she moaned for me in pleasure.I fingered her slowly, swallowing her moans with the kiss not noticing footsteps approaching the door.Edna instantly walked in us and her mouth went agape on seeing what was unfolding.

"Adrian!" She yelled, her chest heaving repeatedly.

The realization was like a knife twisting in his chest, and he walked out of the restaurant, devastated and powerless.Sitting behind the wheel of his car, Donald gripped the steering wheel tightly, as if holding on to it could keep him from falling apart. The betrayal stung deeply, and even though he had known the risks when Edna married Adrian, he hadn’t expected her to fall in love—let alone carry his child. They spent most of those days together, reconnecting, working through their lingering misunderstandings, and imagining the life they wanted to create. Just when things seemed like they were finally heading in the right direction, Adrian’s phone rang, and the name on the screen froze him in place. It was Lissa.Adrian hesitated. He knew ignoring the call would not make the situation go away, so after a brief internal debate, he picked up. “Hello?” he said cautiously, unsure of what to expect.Lissa’s voice was sharp, demanding answers the moment she began speaking. “Adrian! Why haven’t you reached out to me?” she snapped. Her frustration was palpable. “It’s been three days since we talked at the restaurant, and you

  • THIS THING CALLED LOVE   CHAPTER 32

Edna's heart raced as she left the grocery store, her footsteps quick and deliberate, each one landing harder than the last. Her mind was spinning, her emotions pulling her in every direction at once. She couldn’t believe what had just happened—what Donald, her ex, had revealed. Her body felt heavy, and her chest tightened with an overwhelming mix of anger, sadness, and confusion. As she made it to her car, her hand shook slightly when she reached for the door handle. Inside the car, she closed the door and leaned her head back against the seat, her breath ragged and uneven. For a long five minutes, she sat there in silence, gripping the steering wheel as if it could anchor her back to reality. Her thoughts were chaotic, filled with hurt and betrayal. How could Adrian keep this from her? How long had he been hiding this? And why was Donald, of all people, the one to reveal such a painful truth to her?Her mind flashed back to the grocery store, Donald’s smug expression as he casually

  • THIS THING CALLED LOVE   CHAPTER 31

  • THIS THING CALLED LOVE   CHAPTER 30

Adrian drove through the quiet streets, his mind still whirling from his heart-to-heart conversation with Josh. The late-night air was cool, and the empty roads offered little distraction from the thoughts that swirled within him. Josh’s words had been reasonable, grounded, and full of the logical clarity Adrian needed. For the first time in days, he felt some semblance of calm. His earlier anxiety, the tight knot of fear and uncertainty that had taken residence in his chest, had loosened. He could breathe easier now.Pulling into his driveway, Adrian glanced at the dashboard. It was already past 10 o’clock in the evening. The lights in the house glowed warmly, casting a comforting yellow hue over the porch. The sight of his home was usually a relief after a long day, but tonight it only intensified his internal conflict. His conversation with Josh had helped him process the reality of Lissa’s pregnancy, but it didn’t solve the problem he now faced—telling Edna. Lissa’s pregnancy was
