ADRIAN POV

After our first night together, things started falling in place for both of us as we spent our two weeks honeymoon together.

I and Edna started developing great bonds for each other.

It felt like we were doing the courtship we weren't opportuned to do before our marriage.

We got to know each other more better, the things we love and the things we do not. It was a whole new feeling for both of us.

I felt a ray of hope in our marraige.  Probably I could love her more deeply than I had loved Lissa.

We opened up our hearts to each other and we promised not to keep any secret from each other, we promised to be there for each other, in the good times and in the bad times.

I surprised Edna by taking on her a boat cruise.

l also rented us a yacht for 3 days. It was such a beautiful experience.

I also took Edna on a shopping spree. At this point I was beginning a new phase of my life with Edna.

I started moving past Lissa with the help of my beloved new wife Edna. Isuddenly stopped have nightmares about Lissa, and the accident episode was fading off pretty fast.

The two weeks of our honeymoon was amazing to say the least. I grew a fervently strong bond with Edna and our love for each other depeened. After our honeymoon was over, we moved into my new apartment which was located in the urban area of Lagos.

I had to resume back to work today given the break I had taken. Honestly right now, I just wanted to spend every day with Edna in my arms.

A broad smile walked its way to my lips as I meandered into the building.

 "Good morning sir"

"Good to see you back sir"

"Congrats on your marriage sir" was all that kept resonating in my ears as I sauntered towards the board room of the company.

My dad was having a meeting and I needed to be present. I pushed open the doors and spotted my father in his usual chair. Everyone greeted me and I flashed them all beaming smiles

My dad began the meeting with a speech. Clearing his throat, he began speaking.

"20 years ago when I started the company, all I wanted was to make the world a better place to live in and also build a legacy for myself and my family. And to an extent, we as a company has achieved this fate together, growing to become the best and the most reliable real estate company in the country. This

is no small feat and also this isn't a feat I would have achieved without all of you. Which is why I will love to say a big thank

you to you all for your constant support and backing to push the face of this company to it's real potential.Well after dawn is dusk. Now I'm getting old and this is telling on my health. It's time to focus my attention to my health, which is why I have decided to step down and vacate the seat of the CEO of this company". Immediately after his stepping down announcement, the entire board members were in shock and murmurings flew in the air. My dad let them all clamour before seizing the air with another announcement.

"Trust me when I say that this was the most difficult decision of my life. I had never for once thought that a day like this will come where I will have no choice and to announce my retirement from my company, the company I built for many

years, with pain , struggles and sweat. But at the same time, we also have to face the reality. Age has caught up with me, I don't have the strength I had 10 years ago. For a fast and smooth

running of the company , I have decided it's best I stepped down and hand over the responsibility of this company into

another hand, so henceforth my son Adrian Mickelson will become the new CEO, president and director of the Elson

groups. And from today the company become his responsibility and his priorities, the vision and mission I started years ago

should not die but instead make the flag of the company fly even more higher, and I want to beseech you all, every single

surport you gave me, please give him, whatever he says, just know I approve of it.I want you all to  stand by his side in the bad and good times" my father rounded up his speech

 and then stood up.

"Adrian come take the seat" He called to me with a satisfied smile.

The sound of hands clapping resonated through the air as i stood up went to the seat. I embraced my father tightly and thanked him immensely for this opportunity.

Later after the meeting I was taken tomy dad's office, which was now officiallymy office while my dad left for home. I walked around the whole day while his personal assistants filled me into the whole system; all the deals on the table, the partnership agreement and the incoming ones. I officially began work as the CEO immediately today. I can't wait to let Edna know.

* * * * *

The day had flown by so quickly. Either my work was too much or was I so engrossed in setting things in the office that I lost count of time.

As my eyes scanned through the various files placed on my desk, my phone rang. I swiped it up and my eyes noticed the caller. it was our housekeeper.

"Hello Joyce, how may I help you?"I asked with a sigh.

"Sir some thing is wrong" She replied in a very tensed tone and her voice was quivering over the phone.

Her countenance infused worry in me and brows deeply knitted.

"What is the problem, Joyce?" I asked, trying to maintain my composure.

"It's your wife sir, she fainted" She replied in a more agitated tone.

"What! What happened to her?" I asked, urgency ringing in my voice.

"I don't know sir. She just came in from work and she told me to make her something to eat. I was in the kitchen preparing the food. And when I came to the sitting room, I saw her on the

floor sir" Joyce began sobbing over the phone. What the hell! Trepidation seized me and my worries and fears soared higher.

"I am on my way home right now" I quickly announced.

'She's at the hospital right now sir. Your family hospital"she informed me with shaky breath.

I dropped the call and I quickly rounded up my work. Dashing out of the office, I drove straight to the hospital with such an extreme speed. I was so afraid of losing her now, after I'm beginning to get over Lissa's death.Nothing can happen to Edna. This was just a new beginning for our relationship.

I drove frantically like a mad man, honking on cars to leave my way.

On arriving at the hospital, I quickly rushed in to ask about my wife.

The hospital had this aura of blood, medicine and injections soaring in the air which almost got me nauseus.

One of the nurses in the reception told me the doctor was attending to her at the moment and directed me towards her ward.I immediately rushed straight to the ward where she was being treated. On getting in, I saw my wife laid on the hospital

bed, with a doctor and a nurse by her side. But what amazed was that she looked fine, she didn't even seem ill.Our gaze locked and she smiled at me. I moved into the ward with anxiety hitting my chest.

"Doctor please what's going on, please tell me everything is fine" I frantically urged the doctor.

"Yes everything is fine , infact it's a good news Mr Mickelson. Your wife is expecting a baby which automatically means you're going to be a father soon Mr Mickelson". The doctor announced with a glint in his eyes.

At that point, I felt this happiness surge within me."Really?!" I exclaimed, my face as happy as a lark. The doctor nodded. I was so overwhelmed with happiness. It was saturated across my face. I embraced Edna so deeply. Finally everything is falling in place after a  series of rough and tough months filled with sorrow and pain.I never believed  I would grow a family after loosing Lissa but now everything has just turned around for me in the blink of an eye. From getting married to a beautiful and sensible woman to taking over my father's company, and now to becoming a father. Truly Edna is a blessing to me.

"I will leave you  two to talk", the doctor said as he left the wardroom for I and my wife. Immediately he left I went straight to Edna and embraced her again before plummeting my lips on hers in a passionate kiss.

"You're going to become a fatherAdrian" Edna said in a joyful tone.

"Yes I am going to become a father, and you are going to be a mother. Thank you for  coming into my life and lighting it up with your presence. You make my world feel brand new and

refreshed, you are truly my guardian angel" I said to her as she stared at me wistfully.

"And guess what , Edna" I added joyously.

"What? " she replied.

"You're now looking at the newest , president, CEO and director of The Elson group of company" I informed her with great joy

and happines radiating off me.

"Wow! Oh my God! When did that happen!?" Ednaasked, excitement webbed over my face.

"Today, it happened today, after my dad announce me as the new head of the company. He wanted to retire and take

good care of his remaining days on earth" I replied.

"I'm really so happy for you my love ", Edna squeaked.

"And you made me the happiest man on earth with this new life you're adding tothis family" I kissed her once more. This was exactly what I had been searching for.

  • THIS THING CALLED LOVE   CHAPTER 35

After the emotionally charged meeting between Donald, Edna, and Adrian, Donald was left shattered. He had thought he could keep things under control—that the arrangement he and Edna had made would eventually bring her back into his arms. But as he watched her choose Adrian, not just as her husband but as the father of their unborn child, he knew everything had changed. He was no longer part of her future. The realization was like a knife twisting in his chest, and he walked out of the restaurant, devastated and powerless.Sitting behind the wheel of his car, Donald gripped the steering wheel tightly, as if holding on to it could keep him from falling apart. The betrayal stung deeply, and even though he had known the risks when Edna married Adrian, he hadn’t expected her to fall in love—let alone carry his child. Swamped by disappointment and a sense of loss too heavy to bear, he drove aimlessly through the streets until he spotted a bar, dimly lit and tucked away from the bustling cit

  • THIS THING CALLED LOVE   CHAPTER 34

A New BeginningAfter resolving his unfinished business with Lissa—with Edna’s timely intervention during an emotional phone call—Adrian believed he could finally leave that chapter of his life behind. It was a relief to close the door on his complicated past with Lissa. However, there was still one unresolved issue threatening the peace Adrian and Edna were working hard to cultivate: Edna’s ex-boyfriend, Donald, who was the biological father of her son, Jason.Though Adrian had reconciled with his past, Edna knew their marriage would never truly thrive unless they addressed the lingering tension with Donald. His presence loomed like a shadow over their lives. There was no avoiding it. If she and Adrian were going to move forward without guilt, regret, or hidden resentments, she needed to confront Donald directly. He needed to understand that there was no future for him and Edna, only a co-parenting arrangement for Jason. With a sense of urgency, Edna decided to call Donald. She neede

The Phone Call That Changed EverythingTwo days after Adrian and Edna's reconciliation, life felt a little lighter. They had begun rebuilding their bond, although some cracks still remained. For Adrian, loving Edna now felt like a new promise—one he was determined to uphold. They spent most of those days together, reconnecting, working through their lingering misunderstandings, and imagining the life they wanted to create. Just when things seemed like they were finally heading in the right direction, Adrian’s phone rang, and the name on the screen froze him in place. It was Lissa.Adrian hesitated. He knew ignoring the call would not make the situation go away, so after a brief internal debate, he picked up. “Hello?” he said cautiously, unsure of what to expect.Lissa’s voice was sharp, demanding answers the moment she began speaking. “Adrian! Why haven’t you reached out to me?” she snapped. Her frustration was palpable. “It’s been three days since we talked at the restaurant, and you

  • THIS THING CALLED LOVE   CHAPTER 32

Edna's heart raced as she left the grocery store, her footsteps quick and deliberate, each one landing harder than the last. Her mind was spinning, her emotions pulling her in every direction at once. She couldn’t believe what had just happened—what Donald, her ex, had revealed. Her body felt heavy, and her chest tightened with an overwhelming mix of anger, sadness, and confusion. As she made it to her car, her hand shook slightly when she reached for the door handle. Inside the car, she closed the door and leaned her head back against the seat, her breath ragged and uneven. For a long five minutes, she sat there in silence, gripping the steering wheel as if it could anchor her back to reality. Her thoughts were chaotic, filled with hurt and betrayal. How could Adrian keep this from her? How long had he been hiding this? And why was Donald, of all people, the one to reveal such a painful truth to her?Her mind flashed back to the grocery store, Donald’s smug expression as he casually

  • THIS THING CALLED LOVE   CHAPTER 31

On a bright and beautiful Saturday morning, three days after breaking the news of her pregnancy to Adrian, Edna decided to head to the store to pick up some groceries and provisions for the house. The air was crisp and fresh, and she found herself feeling more at ease than she had in a long time. Her marriage, despite its rocky beginnings, had finally settled into something warm and loving. Adrian, the man she once agreed to marry with little expectation of long-term commitment, had now become the center of her world. This new chapter of her life, coupled with the news of her pregnancy, felt like the start of something truly profound. As Edna pulled into the parking lot of the grocery store, she couldn’t help but smile at the thought of Adrian’s reaction to her pregnancy announcement just a few days prior. He had been surprised, of course, but overjoyed. His eyes sparkled with excitement, and he embraced her, kissing her softly and promising that they would face this new adventure tog

  • THIS THING CALLED LOVE   CHAPTER 30

Adrian drove through the quiet streets, his mind still whirling from his heart-to-heart conversation with Josh. The late-night air was cool, and the empty roads offered little distraction from the thoughts that swirled within him. Josh’s words had been reasonable, grounded, and full of the logical clarity Adrian needed. For the first time in days, he felt some semblance of calm. His earlier anxiety, the tight knot of fear and uncertainty that had taken residence in his chest, had loosened. He could breathe easier now.Pulling into his driveway, Adrian glanced at the dashboard. It was already past 10 o’clock in the evening. The lights in the house glowed warmly, casting a comforting yellow hue over the porch. The sight of his home was usually a relief after a long day, but tonight it only intensified his internal conflict. His conversation with Josh had helped him process the reality of Lissa’s pregnancy, but it didn’t solve the problem he now faced—telling Edna. Lissa’s pregnancy was

  • THIS THING CALLED LOVE   CHAPTER 29

Adrian sat alone in the dimly lit restaurant, staring blankly at the spot where Lisa had been seated just moments earlier. The chair was now vacant, a stark reminder of the explosive confrontation that had just taken place. He could still hear the echoes of Lisa’s angry words bouncing around in his mind, the venom in her voice when she had threatened to tell Edna, his wife, everything. The shock of her declaration, the rage in her eyes as she stormed out, all of it left him frozen in place. His mind was a whirlwind of guilt, confusion, and regret. Adrian had never anticipated things escalating this far, never imagined the consequences of his actions would spiral so disastrously out of control. He had come to the meeting with Lisa hoping for closure, hoping that a substantial offer would make her agree to end things quietly and let him move on with his life. But now, things had taken a sharp turn, and he found himself in a deeper mess than he had ever thought possible. He sat there for

  • THIS THING CALLED LOVE   CHAPTER 28

Adrian arrived at the venue with a sinking feeling in his gut, knowing this meeting would determine the future of everything he held dear. His footsteps were slow, deliberate, each one carrying the weight of a thousand decisions he had yet to make. The air felt thick with tension as he paused outside the door, taking a deep breath, hoping that the conversation with Lisa would go smoothly, hoping that she would agree to his proposal. He prayed, both in his mind and in his heart, that things wouldn’t escalate beyond repair. As he walked into the space, his eyes quickly found Lisa, sitting quietly at a table in the far corner. She was already nursing a drink, waiting for him, her posture calm but her eyes distant. She had been expecting him, yet there was something cold about the way she sat there, as if she knew that this meeting was not going to be a simple conversation.Adrian made his way toward her, forcing a smile that he knew wouldn’t reach his eyes. The tension in his shoulders w

  • THIS THING CALLED LOVE   CHAPTER 27

Adrian stirred slightly on the couch, unaware of the warm sunlight filtering through the curtains upstairs. His wife, Edna, still lay in bed, her face softly illuminated by the early morning sun. The rays of light kissed her closed eyelids as she slowly drifted awake. The room was quiet save for the rhythmic ticking of the clock on the wall, and soon enough, the alarm blared through the silence, shaking Edna out of her sleep entirely. She stretched lazily, her eyes fluttering open, expecting to see Adrian lying beside her. But the bed was empty. Her brow furrowed in confusion. She looked around, hoping to see some sign of him in the bedroom, but the only movement came from the gentle swaying of the curtains in the morning breeze. She pulled the sheets back and swung her feet onto the floor. Adrian had always been an early riser, but he usually stayed close. It wasn’t like him to leave without a word, especially not after the long conversations they’d been having about their honeymoon
