The deafening roar of the gunshot echoed off the damp, ancient stone walls of the lighthouse, ringing sharply and painfully in my ears.

PANG!

A jagged chunk of concrete exploded right beside my shoulder, sending a sharp, stinging shower of gray dust flying directly into our faces.

"Get down!" Arthur roared.

Before I could even blink or process the near-miss, Arthur grabbed my waist with iron strength and threw us both hard against the cold, flooded floor behind a thick concrete support pillar.

  • TOO LATE TO REGRET, EX-HUSBAND   Ghost from the Past

The night air burned with the thick, oily smell of burning rubber and scorched gasoline.Bright orange flames leaped into the dark sky, casting jagged, dancing shadows across the twisted wreckage of Director Vance's federal SUV. The heat was so intense it forced us back several steps from our hiding spot near the stone retaining wall."What is going on out there?" my father muttered, keeping his shotgun raised as he peered through the thick rhododendron branches. "Who are those men?"I didn't answer. I couldn't.My eyes were locked entirely on the tall, imposing figure standing beside the lead armored truck. He was wearing a dark, heavy trench coat that fluttered in the sharp mountain wind. A thick cigar glowed bright red between his lips, illuminating a face so strikingly similar to Director Marcus Vance that it sent a cold shiver straight down my spine. The same sharp jawline, the same pale, calculating eyes, and the same ruthless arrogance. It was Julian's older brother–or rather,

  • TOO LATE TO REGRET, EX-HUSBAND   Blood on the Iron Gates

The garage security monitor flickered, casting a harsh, ghostly white glow across the concrete floor.I stood frozen beside the tactical van, holding Leo and Emma tightly against my chest. My eyes were glued to the high-definition screen.A second matte-black SUV had just slid to a stop right behind Viktor Vanderbilt’s limousine at the main estate gates. The heavy tires crunched loudly over the loose gravel. The rear door swung open, and out stepped a man wearing an immaculate federal marshal’s uniform, his face twisted into a hard, ruthless sneer.Director Vance. He wasn't sitting in a holding cell like his uncle Adrian or Eleanor Kingsley. He was out here in the open mountain air, holding a standard-issue federal assault rifle with professional ease."Uncle Viktor," Vance called out, his voice carrying clearly through the external intercom speaker mounted near the gatehouse. "I see our little insurance policy ran into some local resistance."Viktor turned around, brushing a speck of

  • TOO LATE TO REGRET, EX-HUSBAND   The Final Threat at the Gates

The cold hum of the underground garage felt deafening. In my arms, Leo and Emma buried their faces in my jacket, their small shoulders shaking with quiet sobs. I held them tighter, pressing kisses to their hair while Arthur stood guard over us, his knuckles raw and his breathing heavy. A few feet away, my father and Julian kept their weapons trained on the captured operatives kneeling against the concrete floor. We had won the battle in the nursery. We had saved our children from being dragged away into the dark. Then the overhead security monitors flickered violently. The bright white fluorescent screens stuttered, hissed with static, and snapped into a crisp, high-definition live video feed. The camera was pointed directly at the main iron security gates of the estate, half a mile down the winding driveway.Standing right in front of the massive wrought-iron bars was Viktor Vanderbilt. He had discarded his tailored wool coat. In his crisp white dress shirt and loosened tie, he looke

  • TOO LATE TO REGRET, EX-HUSBAND   Fire on the Third Floor

The second explosion rattled the windowpanes of the grand foyer so hard I thought the glass would shatter into a million tiny pieces.Plaster dust drifted down from the high wooden rafters like gray snow."Leo! Emma!" I screamed at the top of my lungs, my heart slamming against my ribs like a trapped bird.I didn't care about Viktor anymore. I didn't care that the international syndicate chairman was standing right in front of us. My babies were on the third floor, and someone had just blown a hole in their balcony. Before Viktor could even blink, Arthur shoved him hard away from the door, sending the older man sprawling backward across the marble tiles."Richard! Julian! Keep him covered!" Arthur barked, his voice carrying the terrifying authority of a military commander in the middle of an active combat zone.Without waiting for an answer, Arthur sprinted past me toward the grand staircase, taking three steps at a time with terrifying speed. I caught up to him instantly, our boots p

  • TOO LATE TO REGRET, EX-HUSBAND   The Geneva Visitor

The grand foyer grew instantly colder as the stranger stepped across the threshold. His polished leather shoes made a sharp, echoing tap against our marble floor. He didn't look around at the high timbered ceilings or the expensive artwork on the walls. His pale blue eyes were fixed entirely on us, cold and calculating behind his thin silver-rimmed glasses.Arthur didn't move an inch. His broad shoulders blocked my view for a split second before I stepped up beside him, my chin held high. We weren't hiding anymore."You have five seconds to turn around and walk back out those doors," Arthur said, his voice dropping into a low, rumbling warning that could rattle stone. "Before I help you out myself."The stranger offered a thin, polite smile that never reached his eyes. He reached into his tailored wool coat with slow, deliberate fingers, pulled out a slim black leather cardholder, and slid a single silver-embossed business card onto the small mahogany table by the door."My name is Vi

  • TOO LATE TO REGRET, EX-HUSBAND   Four Hours to Midnight

The grandfather clock in the main foyer struck four in the afternoon with a deep, heavy chime that echoed through the high-timbered ceilings of the estate.Bong... bong... bong... bong...Four heavy strokes. Exactly four hours left until the mysterious visitor from Geneva walked through our front doors.I stood at the kitchen island, mechanically stirring a pot of warm chicken soup while Harrison helped the twins wash up upstairs. The house was quiet, too quiet. The golden autumn sunlight streaming through the kitchen windows felt warm and inviting, but the heavy, icy weight of the Geneva message lingered in the air like a storm cloud before a hurricane. My father walked into the kitchen, his boots clicking softly against the tile floor. He set a thick leather-bound ledger down on the counter beside my soup pot. It was my mother's old medical trust ledger from twenty-five years ago–the exact document Julian had recovered from the family vault earlier that week."You need to take a bre
